first of all, spending that much on keyboard is a waste of money, especially if the keyboard is still working.

And the mouse depends on various things. I for one use a Razer Copperhead for some time now (a year or two) because I like highly sensitive mice: I can hit anything on the screen without moving my hand much. I did play an FPS "professionally" though, so spending much on a mouse oyu just use for desktop apps would be overkill.

Also, I can't comment on racing with it, because I owned wheels since the good ole Thrustmaster T2
For the keyboard I recommend a Saitek Eclipse II. It's the one I've got at the moment and its fantastic. Cheap, a few function buttons and it's backlit in either purple, blue or red (there's a button to switch) so you can still see the keys with the lights dimmed.

The Eclipse II is quite cheap, but it feels cheap too. It depends what you need really, if you do a lot of typing perhaps an ergo keyboard would be better.

As far as mice go, I've always liked my Logitech MX518, I know a lot of other people here have them too. Most of the Razers are good, and a selection of other Logitechs.
This is a cheap keyboard. £40 is not cheap.
The Eclipse II used to be £25, which is quite cheap as they go. Duno why it's now £40 on Amazon, it's worth about half that.
