Laptop for $1000
I'll do quick: What's the best laptop I can get for around $1000? Doesnt have to have 4 cores, a ubber GFX or something. I bought a PS3 so I got my gaming system, now I just need a good laptop around that price.

Lamborghini makes laptops. get one of those. it might be fast, just like their cars.

The "Lambo" laptop (aka the Asus VX32) is very very very nice.

It's also $2500 ish.

I want one oh-so bad after getting a few in at work :X

EDIT - Spec wise they rock (2.5 GHz C2D, 9300M, 4GB of RAM, 320GB HDD) and the build quality is second to none - but they cost so much!

alienware
I don't get why anyone who knows anything about computers would ever buy an Alienware PC.
What do you consider best? Portability? Performance? Battery life? Display quality? Durability?
1000$ isn't really the lowest budget ever, there is quite a range of laptops that would fit that budget.
I would go for a Dell Latitude. Not the best specs you can get for that price, but they do have a durable case and 3 years next business day on-site warranty. A Lenovo might also be worth looking at, although i don't know about their current models and prices.
Just keep in mind that you can't have it all for $1000. You'll have to make a trade-off between performance and build quality. Most "low"-budget consumer grade performance laptops are made out of horrible wheelie bin plastic.
Well what's the best overall laptop I can get for that price? I reall dont have preferences, I just want something that can last for couple of years.

The thing will be mainly used for watching porn, MSN and homework. Doesnt have to be a beast.

Quote from Shotglass :and thats special because?

It's 12" and very very small and light and thin - Sure, a Quasimo will be faster, but it will also break your legs.

Massively overpriced (almost as much as Apple), but the thing feels sooooo nice (it's even got leather on it!).
and the best bit is asus will sell you pretty much the same machine for less than half the price without the disgusting leather on it

In a country like mine, where the people only think in football (nothandegg) and in drug dealing... i think it's a pretty good excuse
i bought a laptop for 599$ for my sister, hp pavilon 2ghz dual core amd x2 64bit,3 gb ddr2,and 320 gb hdd,17" monitor,i say thats pretty good for the price.(i made the same exact laptop on hp.com,came out 1400$ ... best buy rox )

a.k.a. nVidia Waffle Iron

There's just no way a 15" laptop can cool a 60 watt chip properly.

15.6''

Well honestly, it looks like the best bet for me right now. Around 1000$, has a very good GFX (for a laptop) and the rest of the system is more than enough for me.

im getting it later this year too
Thanks for the link BTW Mutt. I will probably wait spring or the end of school year before getting it tought. Right now I'm still at home so I dont need a new PC until I move out of the city. Plus it will probably be cheaper in 6 months too.
Acer have a 2.0+ ghz 4 gig ram 320/500 gb hd laptop for roughly 600 euros. though if i was buying a laptop... Toshiba all day long... their track record is second to none.

Except Toshiba's are shit (i.e. poor build quality, dodgy looks and terrible WiFi).

Usually - it's all the same shit in a different case - brand makes little difference.
The link Mutt sent me directing to Best Buy wont work. They only seem to deliver in the USA and when I go to www.bestbuy.ca they dont got the same PC as on the American website. I found a few other computers at a local shop. Here's one in which I'm interested:

Toshiba

INTEL CORE2 DUO T6400 (2,0 GHZ)
15,4'' LCD MONITOR
INTEGRATED 4500M GRAPHICS CARD
4GB DDR2 800MHZ
320 GIG SATA 5400RPM HDD
DVD-RW READER / BURNER
VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64 BITS

889$

I think it's quite a good improvement over my present desktop:

AMD ATHLON64 (2,4 GHZ)
17'' CTR MONITOR
NVIDIA 7600GT GRAPHICS CARD
2GB DDR2 667MHZ
160 GIG SATA 5400RPM HDD
DVD-RW READER / BURNER
XP HOME HOME 32 BITS

I'll try to see if they can change the integrated crap for a 9800M but otherwise the price sounds interesting. It also has a 3 years warranty with it so I'm pretty sure I will go with this laptop.

Opinions?
