Dude I'd love to have those, stick 'em on, sit around in bed with my girlfriend, play "Imagine" on the piano, all the stuff Gandhi used to do. It'd be cool.
Given how his family have clung to wealth and power ever since, no I dont think so.
Ghandi was an idiot, he allowed Pakistan and India to divide, gave far too much power to religion, and turned the region of Kashmir into a blood bath. That's quite some doing for a bespectacled peace loving dude in sandals.
Wow, what the hell are you on? Gandhi, until his death, did all he could to keep India together. He was killed by a extremist. He went on fasts to keep India together and unfortunately that was not enough. I am sorry if I sound like a jerk but this is something that is dear to my heart and I think that you should probably do some research before you start talking about stuff you don't know. Really, it pisses me off because Gandhi is one of the best people to grace this earth.
You only get to hear about the good things usually, but now there's this attitude taking hold that anyone or anything that is popular or seen as heroic must be overrated and therefore shot down.
Didnt work though did it, he failed, and lots of people died.
I'll tell you what really pisses me off, the non-acceptance of other view points and hardline preaching.
My viewpoint is that Ghandi is immortalised for his pacifistic nature, but when you actually look at the final analysis the fact is that Asia still lives with the legacy of his utter failure. He is the victim of hero worship, both in his lifetime and today, and he never actually lived up to the great hero people held him as.
Vijay Mallya owns the Force India F1 team, amongst other concerns, but that's what he's most famous for around here. Unless you meant Ghandi, in which case he was some guy who milled around outside of salt mines, an act of such utter pacifism that the British Empire found so intimidating that it spontaneously combusted and declared India independent.
Anyway, i've always found things like these stupid. It's the same like buying michael schumacher's seat used in his F1 car, what the hell are you going to do with it any way? Place it in your living room to sit on it in your own pride?
I know, it's a collector's item.. but still.
Crazy people in this world.
If I'd had the money, I would have bought the glasses and given them straight back to India. He said his glasses "gave me the vision to free India". He was an amazing man.
Sadly this is true. I had thought things would have changed by now. When I was at school, the "end of the British Empire" wasn't touched on even slightly. I mean not EVEN a breath of it. It was clearly a political decision, but an attrocious one.
I didn't formally begin to learn about figures like Gandhi until my university foundation course where I took an elective in British Politics. Fortunately I got thoroughly blitzed with information on Britain in India, and Britain's empirical tentacles elsewhere too, by a very inspiring and brilliant lecturer.
Are you really trying to say that he was not great? So, him getting freedom for India was bad? I will accept that he is not as great as he is believed to be by many followers, but there is no way that you can possibly say that he was not great. If people were to follow his morals, I think everyone can agree that the world would be a better place.
Also, your attitude is horrible, in my opinion. "Didnt work though did it, he failed, and lots of people died." So, if you try something and it doesn't work, then that is horrible right. You suck, right? No! He did more than anyone else did. If he was not there, things could and would be worse. Also, I think that if this is the attitude you hold towards life, you need some change. I think that trying to make a change is a lot better than sitting around waiting for someone else to do it.
