Another odd audio question.

I'm trying to set something up with my phone - it has an output of ExtUSB which can be converted to 3.5mm out. The problem is that the supplied cable has an inline mic, but isn't really what I want.


I want to be able to plug my phone into some speakers, and then use this as a handsfree kit - but the inline mic isn't log enough, if I can't force the phone to go in speaker phone then i'd like to use a seperate microphone.

HTC make a box which gives a 3.5mm (and a 2.5mm) output with inline mic support - can anyone think of any way I could plug my speakers and a mic into this?

Phone is an HTC Dream / T-Mobile G1 btw.

Jack, I have my HTC phone with that same box, if that box is connected and something is connected to that, it will route appropriately.

For instance, if Headphones are connected, Mic on phone will still work.
If ExtUSB headphones are connected (as it's a headphone+mic combo), then handset mic+speaker gets disabled.

but can you get the microphone in speakerphone mode so it hears sounds a distance away while a set of speakers is plugged in?

If not - can you get a splitter to plug in an extra mic?
