Driving lessons...
...for kids aged 12 and upwards now available.

Made possible by Lewis Hamilton.

£40 for 30mins/£75 for full hour.

Learn to drive under different weather conditions and experience what its like to sit behind a wheel. Apparently it will make the roads safer as these kids will have more "experience".

Opinions?

Way forward? Too stupid?
pretty cool, wish they had that going on here...
hmm school trip anyone?

prove I can drive then get them to let me in the big cars.
12 is too early, IMO.

15 or maybe 14 would make sense but 12 is too young.
That's just plain stupid.

I started learning to drive at 12. :mischievo
I don't see what the 'news' is all about... they've been doing Kids' Driving Experiences at Mercedes Benz World for several years now (since the place was built). I've done several of them, and it's not exactly a mess around. They do teach you the sort of things you would learn when having driving lessons.

As far as I can work out this Driving Academy thing is a very similar thing but incorporated into a wider programme of training for a wider age group. They advertise them as two different things, but it seems to be a dodgy bit of marketing to get you to spend more .
I don't see any harm in it, I'm sure most 12 year olds have enough physical co-ordination to drive a car on a closed circuit, it's not that hard. I don't know if it'll make them better drivers in future but there's no harm in letting them have a go anyway.

In my SCCA region.. there are kids who are awesome behind the wheel of a shifter kart.. they are below 12. If the kid can see over the dash and push the pedals.. I think they are good enough.
Looks like fun

LFS will do for now
