Dan,

On another thread I've read about firewalls and anti-virus here, AVG was overwhelmingly recommended over many of the payware antivirus programs. And, I use PestPatrol myself. It is EXCELLENT and much recommended by me. Found 800 instances of bugs/hijacker stuff on a community work PC that AdAware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and many others didn't find.
Its a case of each to his own, and people will normally recommend what the are comfortable with, and are, for some reason, protective of the programs they use and are normally loathed to see that something could be better.

I have test mosted, if not all, AV programs, and there is only one program I would ever put on any system.

I wont say what it is, because TBH, I could'nt careless if you or anyone used it, it makes no difference to me in the slightest, and if you, or anyone else, is happy to use AVG/norton whatever, then fairplay.

Dan,

Antivir user here. By avg you mean antivir? If it is a proven fact that some spyware/antivirus prog is "teh best" then why not share the information?

I am not pissed, but I am pretty sure that my system is 100% spyware/virus free. Even though avntivir does do some weird things sometimes...
No, Antivir and AVG and different things.

The thing is, its not my place to say, use this, use that, but for the record, I have yet to find an AV prog that is not only light on system resources, has a very small footprint and as secure as NOD32.

Dan,
IMO i love pest patrol i use it alot. i dont know about AVG it seems to be alright at finding things. i found the best way to never get viruses and spam is to just not connect to the internet at all. but that wont happen now will it.

just scan will your regular programs more then one of the same type is always a good option. non of them are absolute crap (mcaffe is borderline) but non of them can also get everthing.
How does Avast fair in terms of AV programs?

i havent tried it
Avast is a good option and for me has worked a treat.. Its best used when you have a virus that is constantly running in windows as you can run scan before the computer boots into windows. as a protector its ok too.. But its down to you to try and see.. Mind you .. when it detects a virus in windows.. You'll soon notice it..
