Hi all, I recently bought a new pc system and I'm experiencing lag in online play now. I never had this kind of lag before with my old system. I don't know what causes this, it's a lag glitch every 1 or 2 seconds on all servers, my ping with the servers is good so I really dont know where to look at. Even a fresh LFS install didn't work. Maybe it has something to do with this new processor?

New pc Rig:
Intel I7 920 processor
Asus P6T SE motherboard
6GB Kingston DDR3 Ram
Asus ATI 5770 HD GPU

make sure you have all your drivers up to date. a new system could have old drivers on it.

A fresh windows install always comes with a new system, all drivers are up to date, especially graphic card drivers and BIOS.

a fresh instal of windows has 0 updates. the drivers suppiled with the machine are the drivers released with the hardware. if your graphics card has been available for 6months already, then the drivers supplied are 6 months old and would be out of date.
although your parts might be new to you. they are not new to the market and have been available for purchase for quite a while now.

there might be onboard cooling utilities in the bios that could be affecting the machine. this happened to me and i am on an AMD set up. could be the same.

Yes I know what you mean, I never install (chipset) drivers for a mobo from the cd that comes with it, I look for newer installs and drivers on the net first. All the windows updates are done too. I've found nothing special in the BIOS concerning cooling utilities. Really weird...

Are you overclocking it ?

No not yet but I will be OC-ing it soon, I've been out of the OC world for a while, have to refresh my memory about it.

is it internet lag or performance lag?

I don't know actually, performance-wise it shouldn't be a problem because it's a brand new system. I don't have problems playing other games, even in online multiplayer. And for the internet, i did a pingtest to cargame.nl and that looks pretty stable too so I'm puzzled...

i ended up buying a new sound card as my research showed that the onboard was causing similar issues to the one you're having. maybe try disable your sound card and test.

Okay I disabled my onboard sound in my BIOS but it has no effect, the glitching is still there.

I hope I'm gonna find out soon because I want to play one of my favorite games so much with my new rig. I can play LFS on full detail now with AF and AA on highest and the highest resolution, I love the graphics!

Speedtest was fine but now I found out that I have packet loss with the pingtest:

BUT If I do this test more then once it sometimes has 0% packet loss so it's only on some specific moments. And now I can't do the speedtest for the moment because I get this message: latency test error.

Very weird..

Are you connected over wireless to your router?

No wireless, just cable through a HUB. I never had problems like this with my old system. I'm gonna install a PCI network card now, maybe it's the mobo onboard UTP port from Realtek that's causing problems. I'll let the result know.

Edit: no luck with other network port...

Try LFS in single player mode to confirm that its online only.

Then start looking for the issue

Try a new patch cable, try it in different ports on your router/hub.

Try a new cable from router to phone line/cable box.

If you use a Z-Blocker (filter) try another one.

Maybe you have a phone or skybox or fax machine with out a Z-Blocker?

Does the hub support wireless? is it disabled? same on your PC are any wireless or unused ports disabled?

Do you have other PC's on your LAN? maybe a sibling is using P2P

If all else fails contact your ISP and get them to check the line.

It could even be something that you don't expect like a USB keyboard or wireless/bluetooth device polling the cpu

Thx SD, I'm gonna check these points out later and I'll post the results here. One thing I did already is plug the cable directly in the modem instead of the router but it made no difference.

Using some firewall?, do you open port in your moden for lfs?

Try disabling the Firewall temporaly when lfs is running and check if your problem persist

Are you using old lfs intall or a new one?

Try clean install of lfs to in a dif folder and tell us if the glitch continues

Ok I did some test but first I have to set some things straight, the glitch I talk about occurs every 4 seconds, the time pattern is exactly the same. The glitch looks like this: my car (or other cars in spec mode) slightly changes position on track, a glitch to the left or the right, and this every 4 seconds so I'm not able to race like this, very annoying.
I don't get the problem in single player.
As I mentioned above I once plugged the cable directly in the modem but the problem remained, so it's not the HUB.
Trying another cable is not that easy, my pc is far away from the modem (20 metres) so I first have to get another cable or move the pc to the modem for the test. Maybe tomorrow
I don't know what a Z-blocker is.
All un-usefull ports are disabled.
I tried a fresh LFS install in a new folder, the latest version, no luck.
I disabled the windows firewall, no luck in online LFS.
I did the pingtest again and now I don't get the packet loss anymore
I have to make clear that this problem only came with my new system so I'm not currently looking for the ISP to be the cause. I don't have problems playing other games in online modus.

Such a stupid little solution I was looking for so long but now it's finally fixed! Three weeks after buying my new system I finally got the chance to play LFS! Anyway thx all!
