Community Responders - UK
Hello,

I am 18 and I have just been invited to join my local community response team in Essex. For anyone who doesn't know what this entails, Community responders are basically volunteer paramedics (although not as highly trained) who attend 'category A'/life threatening calls in their local area to assist the ambulance services by arriving on scene first and giving crucial life-saving first aid.

This is particularly useful to me as I am aiming to become a fully qualified paramedic.

I wanted to know if anyone on here (preferably UK based) is a community responder, and what your experiences have been like, and if you have any words of advice. I have no real worries but it is always nice to speak to someone with greater experience, especially as I am at the stage where I have no experience. (other than helping people where I have been in the right place/right time)

Not got any experience i'm afraid.

But good luck with it, You're braver than me

Again, no experience here. I know someone who's doing a paramedic course at uni though

Do you get to drive things with blue flashing lights?

And also, you're far braver than me. Most respect to you, sir.

Its not just you who can smell it.

Good luck, theres no such thing as too many brave voulenteers. Just hope I don't end up needing you any time soon.

Not at this stage, although I will get some stickers for the car, I have ordered a visor sign, and I am allowed to use Amber lights when on scene (although not necessary). As I progress into the ambulance service I will be trained to drive with lights and tones.
