S1 -> S2 difficulty
After a long time of not playing, I installed LfS (version U, S1 license) again after receiving an email about its release.

I liked it enough (and was made curious by the pictures of the new cars) to buy the S2 license yesterday.

For some reason, since upgrading to S2, I have to drive really badly to actually crash or spin out, where before, I was having trouble staying on the road a full race, especially with the rwd's. Now I can take any of the new cars (tried them almost all, including the formula cars which I expected to be extremely hard), and never even touch the side of the road.

It'd be cool if I actually improved so much after more than a year of non-racing, but I don't believe that...

Did the default setups improve drastically? Or was something else done to S2 to make driving the cars easier?

BTW I don't mean to imply that I can now take on any regular here , just that it feels much easier in single player.

Another question: I wanted to try out S2 in multiplay yesterday, and got on a server (the porsche lookalike and new version of the GTR only). I could not get beyond a certain speed (doing about 7000 rpm in second gear), no matter if I shifted up or down (I'd just keep the same speed with lower or higher rpm). Any idea what was going on there? The guys in the server did not respond well to my self-proclaimed newbie question illepall . I joined another server, and there the problem did not exist.

Thanks!
Yes, the cars used to handle rather unstably... now they handle quite well. The default sets have improved a bit, but not that much IMO - just the LFS physics aren't as set sensitive as they used to be.

Try press L for the pit-lane speed limiter.
welcome back to lfs
The default sets are way better now than before, specially the Race_S setup for the BF1.
yeah all the race s sets i've tried are geared more towards understeer and stability
F08 is terrible!!
Thanks for your quick and helpful replies, guys!
This is quite a big change for you then, as you're coming from the very old physics of S1 to patch U completely bypassing the "car drives like on ice" physics of S2 Q. Hope you're enjoying it, though missing version Q, you probably aren't as astonished as we all were.

As for your second point where you claimed you couldn't get going faster than a certain speed.... The GTR and open wheel class cars have a pitroad speed limiter holding you at 48 mph/80 kph. Hit your "L" key on the keyboard. That turns it off. But don't do it on pit road.

I can't remember now, was there a speed limit back in the original S1? I think I remember folks "cheating" at Blackwood and cutting up pit road to gain some time.

No, there wasnt. But there was also no need to pit, because there was no damage, tyre wear or fuel consumption.
