PC build help
Hey guys. My cousin has in mind to build a PC primarily for gaming and I put together a list for him. Im by no means a PC wiz so I thought id post here to get some feedback. The parts he needs are, Case, CPU, GPU, MOBO, PSU, RAM, cd/dvd drive, HDD. His budget is approx 800usd. Monitor and mouse and those extras arn't included in his budget.

Ok here's what I threw together.

Case - Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower
MoBo - Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
GPU - ATi 7870
RAM - GSkill 1333 8GB
DVD drive - some cheap asus drive
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB (dont have much experience with SSD, maybe you guys can help)
PSU - Corsair TX650 (this probably isnt enough)
That TX650 is more than plenty for this system, rest assured. You'll never take up more than 75% load (I think even this is inflated). For the HDD, a WD Blue would suffice and would be cheaper too. There's no need for a Black drive for gaming unless you're constantly loading programs all the time. Maybe also a cheaper case as well? That way, the money saved can be spent on a better graphics card. Don't forget a better CPU cooler if overclocking is on your mind.
Thanks hiro.

Won't be overclocking at all, really have no experience with that and it wont be needed TBH. He Isn't that hardcore of a gamer.
My brother just got this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ ... aspx?Item=N82E16814202025

Not sure if that's the same. But make sure you shop around for similar cards and see if you can eye a good deal with reliable brands. I am no PC expert but did a lot of shopping a while back and found a list of trustable brands. Looks like a nice rig, but the 6 core processor, I remember seeing on newegg some 8 cores for a similar price (after googling the processor you listed).

Also, newegg has 10-20% deals atm. I'll forward you the promo codes since I wont use them
While the Caviar Black is a very nice HDD, it's not really something you buy if you're on such a limited budget. Blue and Green are much cheaper for the same capacity, and buying one of those will allow you to spend that much more money on something else that directly affects game performance, such as a GPU or CPU.

You may also want to look into something more along the lines of the FM2+ or LGA1150 platforms. The X6 is an ancient CPU at this point, and terribly inefficient.

Thanks guys. Will def change the HDD now and look into the CPU aswell.
I'll give out my opinion too,but you probably have picked up parts though.

If you're on a budget, try getting your hands on a sandybridge 2500k and a gtx 670(preferably the asus one, which comes overclocked from factory).

I have the same combination for a year and a half and there hasnt been a game yet which i can not play maxed out at 60 fps.And i have the same PSU,which is more than enough(i could get away with a good corsair 550W and still be overclocked at 4.6 ghz). Those along with decent ram and decent mobo should last long enough.Even at some point you see that you need more power, you could overclock the i5,or get another 670 and SLI them.

Another suggestion could be to get an ivybridge i5 or i7(if you're not doing any heavy tasking like video processing etc the i5 is more than enough) and an nvidia GT7XX GPU.

One last piece of advice is to stay away from reference graphics cards, and look for the custom pcb(you can recognize them from the custom cooler) as they perform much better, they usually come overclocked and have better cooling capability.
