Formula E Tyre Aspect Ratio?
Just out of curiosity, why is Formula E's tyre aspect ratio significantly lower than other Formulas? It's more like GT or touring car.

Probably because it's continuing the "green" racing series initiative, so it's using low profile (and no grip) tyres becuase they have less resistance and are "moah green".

Because Formula E cars would not be able to turn with F1 sized tires?

F1 rules force very small rims. Not sure why, maybe to limit what sized brakes they can fit? Eitherway result are these balloon tires that also absorb shocks more than in other cars. (where suspension would do that more)
Formula E is slower so both these arguements do not apply so much anymore. Balloon tires are also very different to what is used in normal production cars so maybe that played a role, too.

Oh found a site that explains some reasons: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/109795

"We designed them to be both energy-efficient and more like road tyres. As a consequence, the new FIA Formula E Championship will serve as a life-size laboratory that will help Michelin to prepare its tyres of the future."
...
"The decision is in line with the whole philosophy of the championship," he said. "Less rubber, less consumption, green tyres, and almost road tyres."

As far as I know, that's the reason.
I think the reason F1 has kept the tire sizes it is using is because of costs. If the tires were changed to low profile tires the teams would need to design the suspension parts from scratch. Plus probably other costs as well. Brakes are not really the reason for forcing low profile rims and tires because the brake discs are also heavily restricted by rules. Even if the teams wanted they can't really make the discs lighter, thicker or bigger.

Obviously F1 needs to move to lower profile tires at some point if pirelli decides to leave. There are not many tire companies willing to invest much money into developing such obscure sized tires.
Which is a shame, as the cars will look silly on big wheels with rubber bands. It's not improved a road car yet, and it won't improve a racing car. All the best cars have <14" wheels.
