Cruise Server/InSim?
Hi all,
Newbie here.
I already run a very sucessful S2 server for me and a group of friends. I was doing some reading around the game and I keep coming across the mention of a 'Cruise' server. I roughly know what a Cruise server is and what you do on them but I do not have a clue on how to run or set one up. I already have an LFS server running on a dedicated Virtual Server and I am going to be setting another one up.

I have a couple of questions for people who can answer them:
  1. What is a 'Cruise' server?
  2. How do you set a 'Cruise' server up?
  3. What is InSim?
Thanks
Harry
Short answer...

I wouldn't waste your time running a cruise server unless you are prepared to fork out on network attack protection.

Seems LFS still has a group of trolls intentionally attacking cruise servers - I've put up with it for near 2 years, shit started again this afternoon... I have now switched the lot off, complete time sink. (Reality Cruise).

It is not worth the time and effort.

Suppose I could answer your questions tho..
  1. What is a 'Cruise' server?
    A) A server where users adhere to near real road rules, do jobs to buy better cars, get chased by police etc
  2. How do you set a 'Cruise' server up?
    A) You could go with Chriship's service since he is the*only* host that never seems to get attacked. *hmm!*
  3. What is InSim?
    A) The in game system that handles cars, cash, cop system, speed limits etc et etc. Some are coded in .net some in PHP. The one RC used is called PRISM and is available on these forums.
I do have some network protection in already from my host. If I was going to set up a cruise server, how would I do it. I have been looking around and I can not make head or tail around the instructions I have seen.
Well, all the best to you giving the cruise server a go, but don't be too surprised if it gets attacked to the point that you lose interest!

Our machine is with OVH but the protection is only useful when it works, which it doesn't... most of the time.

You would probably need to start with creating layouts for each of the tracks, creation of junctions, parking areas, job spots, separating road lines, stop junctions lines, tyre stacks etc etc.

You will also need to be able to code locations and their functions into an InSim before it will be of any use.

... not sure what else to give you, but thats the basic building blocks (bar already having an available LFS server).
