Short Track Auto Racing League
2021

Round 2

Sunday,13th June
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET* / 20:30 EET*

* Summer time

This season of STARL has been shortened in 2 ways - the schedule will feature just 3 rounds and the nominal race distance has been reduced by 50km,making races 100km long. 3 rounds mean we will have our own specific trilogy and episode one of it starts this sunday at South City. As a gratitude for continious sponsorship support from WCL team in other our event,we gave them a chance to name one of the STARL rounds last season and we will carry on this tradition also this year. Even better - the season will open with the City of Lions 100. The well known Sprint 1 configuration features 2 straights,connected by few tricky turns,49 laps are required to complete the 100km race distance.

With small money prizes at the stakes,the start of the 3 round season can already give good advantage to 1st racewinner of this season,but with 2 more rounds left after this,nothing will be decided yet!

The 2nd edition of City of Lions round and 3rd STARL race at South City overall set a new attendance record of the series - a total of 17 drivers qualified for this race,which is 2 more than previous highest of 15 at Rockingham 2019. One of the qualifyers did not start here though and a total of 16 cars were standing on the grid for the 100 kilometer race around South City's fastest of 2 sprint courses. Despite bigger half of the top5 finishing in same position they qualified,there were plenty of position changes up ahead. The S1dus front row was seperated by 4 other cars early on,where Gábor was leading first 33 laps before Fatass found a way past him - the finnish Fragmaster's driver held the lead until chequered flag to celebrate victory in his first STARL race. 2019 series champion Unite regained early lost positions to finish 2nd,Mandula finished in top5 for the first time in this league by taking the last step of the podium. Polesitter and fastest lap of the race owner Gábor was forced to retire from the race due connection issues.

As always first round just marks the possibilities in championship,allthough being first of just three rounds,the positioning is more important than in longer series. The winner of 1st round Fatass is now 2 points ahead of Unite,Mandula in 3rd is another 2 points back,where rest of the field is seperated by a single point. The series middle round at Rockingham will show the situation and championship candidates more gradually.

The situation in teams championship has become quite interesting after first round - top4 teams are seperated by just 3 points. S1dus leads Fragmaster and Race Green Autosports by just a single point,while MRc is near with 3 points gap to leaders. While in nations cup the first round was quite similar to previous 2 seasons - Finland has a commanding lead and has scored twice as many points as 2nd and 3rd position Hungary and Argentina.

Next up is Rockingham 100,which last year was a 100 lap race around 1.48km track,this year there is a different and even shorter course to tackle,where 100 kilometer distance will be covered in 77 laps. The 1.3km Lake Extended Reversed configuration is by far the slowest track in this year's STARL schedule and will feature some tricky turns,mostly left handed.
