V8 Racing League 2021 - information

The 6th season of VERL brought to Race Green Events leagues the first ever returning champion, now it's time for 7th season - will it bring the triple champion,2nd double champion or a brand new one? This is something we have to find out during next 2.5 months in the league using the fastest aids free car of LFS - Formula V8. To award best drivers,Race Green Events will present small money prizes for 3 best drivers of the season. This season league has been moved to other weekday due too tight schedule on original day - the 2021 VERL will be run on mondays.

League race format is quite simple and hasn't been changed - every round features 20 minutes free track qualifying and race, where lapcount is set to minimum to exceed 200 kilometers. League will offer pure racing without any strategies as there will be no mandatory pitstops, neither "hardcore simulation" will be enforced to keep things simple - everyone can telepit in qualifying, also Safety/Pace car will not be used.

This year's schedule will feature 3 returning tracks, one used before in other direction and one new one. Season will start in the shortest but in most areas also the widest course of the season - Container Sprint configuration layed out in Blackwood's container storage area, which will torture the drivers with quite uneven surface. The configuration was used in 2017 season and racers was plagued with several tyre failures. South City's longest standard configuration has been used before in the VERL,but this season it will be run in reversed direction. Middle round of the season brings the only completelly new configuration - Modified Rockingham's Historic configuration. Modifications include both first original chicanes, where the 1st one is bypassed over oval and 2nd chicane is made much slower. 4th round is a visit to Westhill, this year we will run the shorted National configuration in reversed direction. Season finale will be held on the short Club configuration of Aston - a great place for one last final fight for champions title!

Special notes on qualifying:

- To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race,so any action will be made only after protest while all retirements will be investigated automatically. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best fair resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track limits counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of a protest.
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, pit exit lines will have to be respected - drivers may not cross the pit exit line with more than 2 wheels and have to make way for cars racing at full speed. Failing to comply with this rule will award them with 10s penalty, while causing incidents will result in bigger penalty.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Any in server present observers/spectators are not allowed to chat at all during race session!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection and high ping,he will not be allowed to participate at the current round.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, too much chatting.
> 30s added to finish time - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences, illegal passing.
> 60s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 1; 3 and 5) - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

VERL 2021 final standings

This was the magical number 7 season of V8 Racing League and with recent news of LFS world,it's now known that this season marks an end of an era. But about future plans below, let's start first about the nearest past - the 7th season brought to VERL the 6th different drivers champion as none of 5 previous champions did not sign up to score the 2nd or even 3rd title.

Statistically this season again was a slight step back regarding overall numbers - 30 signups is 8 less than previous season, but just one of the signed up drivers did not attend,29 actual competitors is just 2 less than last year, still 2nd lowest number in league's history. Attendance high was 20 in round 2 at South City, which is 2 more than last season's highest number, lowest this year was at Westhill where only 13 drivers gathered up. Funny that both these gatherings featured one driver who failed to qualify for the race. Average attendace was a good step upwards - 16 drivers per round is 4 more than last year,so the quality did improve - a total of 9 drivers did attend all 5 rounds of the season, which is a very good sign. Another fun fact - all 3 drivers this season, who scored a win or a pole position did achieve it for the first time in the league.

VERL 2021 Drivers Champion: S1DUS*GáboR
This season went under the sign of the hungarian driver Gábor - he won all 4 races he started and did not collect full points package just in one of those 4 rounds he won - he qualified 2nd in 2 rounds, did not start one of those, setting fastest lap of the race in each round he started.
The freshly crowned STARL champion Fatass did not attend round one of the season and considering his average points scoring through season, the unscored points of round one might have robbed him the 2nd RGE league title of the year, finishing just 2nd in standings instead. The finn won the only round the champion did not race and finished 2nd to him in other 3,scoring pole position in round 4 and tying fastest lap in final round. The vice-champion of 2018 (and coincidentally - another driver with STARL champions title) Unite had his 2nd best season in his VERL career - he finished 3rd in standings. Unite scored pole position and finished 2nd in round 3,scored another 2 podium finishes and ended the season with two 4th place finishes while starting last due missed qualifying.

VERL 2021 Rookie of the Year: Iron|Doni
Iron Club's Doni joined VERL action this year and was the best between league newcomers - the very changing situations in rookie standings provided the biggest intrigue in the league,as 4 different drivers were leading the table through out the season. Doni did not finish race of round one,but improved his performance later on,topping at 5th place finish in 4th round, finishing strong 6th in final race that turned the points lead towards him.
Kid and Thehemuli both were leading rookie standings at some point, but had a weak final round, demoting them behind Doni. Best rookie of past season Maunokasa did not join the league this year, but 2nd best ended up being 2nd best overall this year.

VERL 2021 Teams Champions: Team S1DUS
The domination of Team S1dus starts to take over many leagues, including VERL. Even if last year they took the teams championship by mere 8 points, this season they dominated from round one and run away from competition, securing teams title before final round. 4 wins,4 pole positions,5 fastest laps of race and a total 9 top5 finishes describes their season performance.
Teams champions of this year's STARL competition Fragmasters were the 2nd best team here - besides Fatass' performance,a podium finish of Ohnifus was what secured their 2nd place in teams standings. FM were scored 9th last year. The hosting team of Race Green Autosports once again made on the teams podium - for the 4th time in league history,2nd time in row,but one position lower than last year. 4 top5 finishes by Rony are the top achievements of RGA this season, topping with 2nd place finish in round 1.

VERL 2021 Nations Cup winners: Finland
Finland keeps dominating the VERL - it's the 6th nations title (2nd in row) for the nordic country in this league. Despite winning just 1 race, finns scored a total of 12 top5 finishes through the season, adding 2 pole positions and 2 fastest laps of the race to the achievements.
Hungary scored 89 points through the season, only 2 of those were not scored by series champion Gábor - therefor all his achievements are also nation's achievements on way to reach 2nd place in nations competition. Latvia finished 3rd in the table, adding K.Jaunzemis' 3rd place finish to Rony's achievements for the nation. Both these countries swapped positions between last year's final standings and this year's.

This is the paragraph, where we look forward to the future. With recent update (even if still in just test patch phase) the options of racing in LFS opens up largely. As announced above, the 7th season of VERL marks the end of an era - next year the league will have few increases. Cars will have increased power, increased weight, increased overall pace, increased challenge factor and for those liking to race powerful cars - increased fun! The first tests of VERL spec-racer have been already started to approximatelly estimate where to start changes. Time will show if we will race brand new cars or just modified FO8s - that's something what has to be worked out until next summer.
Regarding nearer future - RGE's longest running league AWS is set to return for it's 11th season, very likely starting already this year, hopefully adding 3rd car to the lineup for upcoming season, while future visions might bring racing with different car in each round, but let's not jump ahead too much in our thoughts. Of course RTFR will not cease racing until bitter end, slowly increasing cars park over the time - everything depends on quality of submitted user created content. And did you already mark 26th december in your calendar? Just a tip,you know...

See you on track! Thumbs up
