Quote from sinbad :There's no excuse for roaring away with a dismissive "soz" if you've just taken someone out.
Accidents happen, everyone makes mistakes now and then, and the nature of the game is such that quite often someone else might become involved. It's not always the overtaking driver's fault, though. Quite often I've been completely alongside (more so than I need to be to have the line, in fact) and had someone turn in on me whilst I am right up next to the inside kerb (even if I'd run a little wide, it becomes the overtaken driver's responsibility to take some action and avoid the contact), and yet they will complain that I took them out, and so I go the rest of the race feeling guilty for something that wasn't my fault at all whilst this driver tells everybody else on the server how I "wrecked" them.

No, you've steamed in and parked it in the middle of the corner. How can you know if its even possible for the other driver to avoid you?
Maybe you could have avoided the collision by letting off the brakes and sliding wide.
When I say parked at the apex I mean the passer is 30k+ slower.

If you respect the other driver they will respect you, I understand your frustration but remember that intimidation is a big part of racing.
Its possible to make the other driver give up the next corner long before you get to it.

The best drivers will pick the passing point that has the highest chance of success and the least chance of contact.
Its not always possible to do this but don't expect the other driver to back off and give you the line. They may be as commited to the bend as you are.

Anyone expecting s2 final to be significantly different from s2 as it is now will be very disappointed.

Enjoy s2 for what it is.

On OLT Pro Racing at AS cadet last night the light sequence appeared to be stuck on 4 seconds( after last red comes on, same hold befor green).
Might just be that its not random enough( or the nature of randomness giving the same result many times).

It was predectable over 8 races.

Quote from oDii :I'm not sure if this is worth making much fuss over, but at the start you can creep forward ever-so-slightly without being penalized. See attached reply.

Also, rather comically, if you push an AI (or presumably a Player) at the start you can get them penalized too. I didn't record this as it's very easy to reproduce, but it does seem more serious as a possible form of griefing...

I think thats how its done in some forms of racing. As long as you don't move past a set distance and are at a stop before the lights go green. You sholud be clear to start.

The second issue relates to offline only.online your suposed to get spectated if you move too far. But if you want to wack 20 ai's on the start line go ahead!

Is it wrong to want to drive one of them in lfs!

I cant remember if one of them ever won a race but they did quite well.

As long it isn't leet speek or text speek or a sentence, I'm not too fussed about it.
I won't ever use my full name on a public server but I don't know why it bothers me so much.
You already have part of my first name (Wesley)

It's the lfs oval. Worst shape and banking possible.

Ovals provide fast and close racing, which is why a lot of people like them.

its more of a race vs the other drivers rather than vs the track.

Quote from tristancliffe :As much as it pains me to suggest unrealistic things for LFS, Biggie does have a point (and he made it well).

How about the Tristan Compromise.

1. All sessions in single player and multiplayer start from the pitlane (except the race, duh. Unless you have outlaps to the grid, pace laps and all that, which I would love (but turn off probably :shy.

2. Hotlapping sessions start from the track. But, to counter needless reverse driving, allow the start position to be configurable. Thus you might want to start Blackwood 400 meters from the start line in the BF1 (say), but just 100 meters in the UF1. Would save time, and allow biggie the chance to show off as he has done so successfully for a while now.

Feel free to throw spanners in the works by thinking of flaws to this system, but as I've only ever done about 10 hotlaps (and they were only luke warm really, though I did have a WR for a whole two days once) I'm not really bothered by it. I'd much rather race than lap against a clock, but I appreciate that some people are different.

Sounds good.

Quote from TagForce :But why does any post have to be shot down... How hard is it to simply ask that a mod moves this post, and that next time the poster should post in the relevant thread?

Multicultural, yes... tolerant? Not so sure... As a whole the community sometimes seems like incredibly tolerant and friendly, and at others seems completely elitist. I don't know why... Maybe I'm noticing it more because it started to annoy me.

Yep nothing says welcome to lfs more than "go practice off line noob" Makes my heart sink every time I here something like that.
I think its the alpha-dog mentality. Put down the newcomers before they become rivals.

Nope rfactor does not have the bmw yet and none of the tracks are officialy licensed. If they were they would have the real names. So I think we have the better deal(slightly)
I'm not sure changing the name will be enough to prevent them being sued, if it was that easy then every car/track would be in every car game.

Jacksonville Speedway is quite clearly daytona.

I think its more to do with the likeness with its real life counterpart than just the name, I hope the rfactor boys dont get into trouble.

I was hoping this might be downloadable via direct2drive or something else, but its not on there.
Everything about gtr was good except the netcode and starforce.
It may not have been the best 'sim' physics wise but it was good enough. If the online part of it worked at all I would have played it now and again.

If they pull the same stupid stunt of leaving the sim mode out of the demo, I wont bother tring it and they wont be getting my cash at all.

Nothing against starforce I'm just lazy, been spolit rotten by steam/lfs and virtual drives.
Media based checks are an inconvenience for pc owners. there is no need for it any more.

just sold my old 56k modem for.... 15p!!

well I googled untill my eyes bled and the nascar rulebook is hidden from the public. So I can't find out for sure if they have to uses locked diffs all the time.
Some sites say the detriot locker is the only sanctioned diff but is it just a brand name?
I'd like to know.

Nascar's use locked diffs. THey run two road circuits a year and I've never known lsd's to be mentioned(am I right on this?).
I have herd of setups(at an oval) with the rear end jackup and the front softer. Just like several lfs setups i've seen for the xrr with a locked diff.

This rids the setup of the horrible understeer but I personally could never weed out the massive oversteer on power.
Most drivers like this power oversteer which could explain why locked diffs are so popular.

are lsd's allways faster than locked diffs in real life?
If not then lfs is doing it right(mostly)

Yes a lot of drivers have a me first attitude, lots of hot heads winning at the first bend or just thinking they own the track.

Fools driving backwards around the track when people have yet to finnish.

Oh and people going AFk and leaving their car parked near the track.

You need to use the lowest common denominator to reach internet people, just have to not let it affect you. Insanity awaits those that don't.

a licence wont make you less of a smacktard.

The problem is not how it looks. But how your control of the car is affected by these settings.
Its also about making lfs feel consistent to its users.

With correct wheel lock matching a car will handle and feel the same on any computer with any wheel.

Without it you could run into problems. It might cause you issues when creating setups or when using someone elses.
comparing real life to lfs handling, the xrgt turbo has been labled as an oversteering pig. Part of that could be because your real wheel inputs are being scaled up too much in lfs.

Does it matter if it works for you? Yes this IS real life man! realism counts!

he wants 1° rotated on wheel is 1° rotated in game- for the whole wheel range right?

I've just been testing this with my dfp, setting it to lower locks via its control panel then messing around in lfs.

And.. You can't do it when your real life wheel has a LOWER lock than than the lfs car.

Heres how to test if you have a dfp or other wheel that can have its lock altered;

set the dfp to 360 degrees in the control panel, go into lfs and set the wheel turn to the same.
Also set wheel turn compensation to 1.00.(has to be this to get corect 1 to 1 rotation)
now load up the mrt(has a wheel lock of 270; our dfp is at 360) use a setup that has FULL lock( ie 30 deg)

Fine; now watch incar as you move your dfp the rotation will match perfect for the full range of the lfs wheel.
The ingame wheel stops rotating at its limit and your dfp will be at the EXACT same angle.

Now load up the xrgt(lock of 720; our dfp is at 360) use a set that uses FULL lock(36 deg)
Watch incar again and you can see the wheel rotations DON'T match! Nor do the angles match at full ingame lock.

This is wrong and is the complant of x-ter, his wheel has a lower lock and the inputs get scaled up too much in lfs.

He wants 1 to 1 lock evan though his real life wheel will reach max lock before the lfs cars wheel.
He wants 240 degrees on his wheel to only ever reach 240 degrees in the lfs cars wheel. No matter which car it is.

The 1 to 1 matching works perfectly when your real life wheel out-rotates the lfs car wheel but not the other way round.
This is the bit that needs fixing perhaps.

I'm guessing that the Scawen wants all wheels to be able to match 1 to 1, it would give greater( and more realistic) control to low lock wheels.
Does anyone use more than 200 when you get it right?

x-ter has a 240 degree lock to lock wheel(bet its a logitech) so, x-ter try setting the wheel turn to 240 with wheel turn compensation set to 1.0.
because of the above problem you still won't have a lock matching wheels just yet.

Can some other people test this please, There is always a chance I'm talking gibberish. I kept wanting to spell wheel as whell no no don't ask.illepall

online lag is the problem and it wont go away. When cars start to pinball on contact you know the server is overloaded or the pings times are too high.
Its less noticable with the slower cars.

Its not just gender(speaking about online games in general) but anything else they can use to antagonise a person.
Race/age or if you dare to type in another languague some fool will start.

I know its sucks but I would set up a second license with a neutral name and nick and keep the gender setting to male.

Race as Becky in private servers and use the other for public, the internet won't change until people can't be anonymous.

Be anonymous yourself, and you take away all their wepons, it will remove a
lot of hastle.
