I would just like to say thankyou for letting us know what has been going on in terms of lfs development. I appreciate the update and can't wait for the day a test goes live. (Really excited to try the new physics as all car's will be different to drive)

I just find it annoying the moaners have won. Surely the true lfs users/fans (the one's who really care) should be given progress reports. If the moaners wan't to moan then just ignore them. They are moaning more now from lack of information!

My dad used to say the best bit about getting a new car was the waiting. (the difference being he knew what he was waiting for!)

I diagree with some people is this thread. When I'm racing my engineer, team and myself always talk in litres of fuel used and litres of fuel needed for the next race. This is because we know how many litres of fuel are burnt per lap at each track. So this would be the correct way of doing things however percentage does seem to work ok in lfs and there are a thousand other more important things needed before time is spent on things like this.

The AI is a lot better than it used to be, the main problem is when you get near them for an overtake or vise versor they just seem to panic and lock up the brakes. For the most part their speed isn't bad but it's their ability to race other cars that needs attention as they follow each other in a line far too much now.

I hope the AI will be improved one day as I use lfs 10times more offline than online. But obviosuly there are more important things needed first.

Quote from Flame CZE :Look at this thread

Thankyou, that was an interesting post by Scawen (probably the last of its kind) and has given me an indication as to what we might or might not receive this year. Westhill updates still intrests me as to what that could mean. I wonder if he means "make-over" like blackhill got a while ago as I can't see any obvious alternate routes for different layouts.

Does that mean improve the graphics? Or different layouts?

Good response, ok I can see it would be a huge task to add something like breakable wings which although a nice addition, is time probably best spent on more important things.

Are there any other things like breakable wings that Scawen has hinted he would like to implement at some point?

Reason I'm asking is because we know we will have a patch in 2009. We also know the devs are working on things that we don't know about.
Wings

Purely speculation and as Scawen has said may or may not be included in the game but what is your thoughs on breakable wings?

Do you think it will effect downforce levels if broken or missing? Or purely for looks and realism?

I'm not sure how downforce is calculated now but I'm guessing this could be improved on a lot.

Also do you think the wings would be able to stay on the ground and cause a puncture for example or just dissapear a few seconds later?

Quote from 5haz :Rockingham is an odd place, huge international event capacity grandstands in pristine condition, always empty, feels like a ghost town. Such a shame CART never came back to town.

I agree, it has sooo much potential to be a great venue but some how it can't seem to attract the crowds it usually deserves.

I don't like to fill up this thread with more of the same but I really want to say thankyou for this update, I really appreciate it and continue to love lfs year on year. .

Brake light don't glow like that unless your looking through a fogged up windscreen at night in a traffic jam.

In normal conditions like in LFS lights just light up and have no noticable glow.

As a Honda fan I'd personally like to see more high power N/A machines instead of turbos. Yes turbo's can be fun and difficult to control but I hope there is the ability to add a vtec style system to the engine simulation. It would become fun to keep the car in the high power zone and make you try become a smoother racer and carry as much speed as possible without relying on big power to get you out of trouble.

Obviously the more cars the better (also a diesel would be fun).

I love lfs because:-

*It's the closest I can get to the experience of driving a real car without actually driving it.
*It helps me drive a car in real life. (Can afford to take risks and see the outcomes in a simulation.)
*The most fun I've ever had on any video game ever.
*The way the car's handle is the most realistic way ever created so far.
*There is so much potential for other formulas and driving/racing situations and environments.
*The price and the friendly developers listening to the community.
*Gives me a reason to use my G25 and keeps me entertained on a rainy day.
*Like the way I can use AI cars to practice with.

To some up it's basically the best game in the world for a true petrolhead car nut and long may it continue. My £12 is here waiting for S3 and beyond.

Quote from Scawen :finally I will stop revealing plans altogether.

Had to just say as I'm sure your well aware there are lots of idiots and impatient people in the world that like to gob off, but there are some of the opposite who wait quietly and appreciate you explaining to us whats in store for lfs in the future. Thanks Scawen. Alric.

Fantastic as they are. Each track is different and has its own lines and character. Such as stated above at the nurburgring. Most of the curbs at the ring you avoid except maybe a handful that you can get away with and gain time.

So big -1

Good effort! Didn't know that could be done in that car. Something for me to practice on the warming down lap.

Quote from Thunderhead :Done the whole list you wrote. And I say GT5P physics are crap compared to LFS. Graphics on the other hand.....

Agree also. Done the above and the physics are just not realstic at all. It doesn't matter if it feels good or not if its not like a car would handle in real life then its not a good game imo.

A lot of my friends thought the GT games were realistic but once they had a fair bit of track experience they soon realised that the GT games car physics are like hovercrafts. So far the best game is LFS at reproducing a cars physics on a track. I can't see how anyone can argue that GT5 is better except for better graphics and real cars/tracks.

Quote from seinfeld :were u using a wheel? if you were you forgot to put the mode into simulation, turn of power assistance. and you would of had a smile ear to ear. probably because its in jap u couldn't read it. to bad I hope u try again, with english copy.
for 60 cars, and 12 tracks ill pay 49 buks no worries, I payed 40 for a non finished game, with minimal content, needing improvments, and terrible GFX (live for speed) so why not for a tried and tested game?
take a step back from your LFS bubble world, you payed the exact same thing for a much less game, wake up!

Yes I was using my G25 wheel in simulation mode and the H-shifter activated which was a real pain to get it working (my friend is pretty good at Japanese too so it mostly makes sense). It made next to no difference. I had another go last night just to refresh my memory and dude!!!!! its really bad physics. It handles nothing like a real car on a track. It's not too bad right on the limit of grip but once past it the car is like a hovercraft with no control which is just wrong. You seriously need to get some real life practice of driving cars on the limit on a track because then you would see LFS is the closest game there is at reproducing this.

I'm not in a LFS bubble at all. From day one when i played LFS for the first time right upto now I still feel the same way. When I kept coming home from a day on track I wished there was a game that could reproduce it in a fun and realsitic way. I found LFS and was amazed at how close it was. When and IF a new game comes along that is even more realistic than LFS then I'd probably spend most of my gaming time on that. I'm not stuck on LFS at all, just it is the best game at this moment in time. (I'd also like to say I have every GT game and do find them fun just not in a realistic way.) Every GT game is far too like an arcade game. It has to be or the masses wouldn't buy it.

For real tracks, real cars and a laugh with your mates its great. But a game that can actually help me in my Racing carrer and reproduce how a real car moves, handles and reacts on a track then LFS is the game that is and will hopefully continue to push simulation towards real life.

I got GT5 from japan a few months back and while it's good visualy and has real cars and tracks the handling is just pathetic. I've spent a lot of time on the track and on the road and the cars handle nothing like real life. LFS is so much closer than any other game at copying how a real car handles.

I don't understand how people can't see that GT5 handling is really very very poor. (Feels like the cars are floating.)

Plus how can you complain that LFS has limited content when GT5 prologue is basically a demo you have to pay for.

No matter how many threads like this appear it won't make scawen & co change their development strategies.

Quote from Ikaponthus :
I understand that it's just one guy developing this and that it's just an alpha version, but then it should be alpha price too if such major flaws are not going to be actively fixed soon!

In my opinion that is why this game is the best driving game ever. LFS in alpha stage made mostly by one man is a much better game than a full game made by EA etc. It obviously takes more time to complete the various issues and additions but we should all be willing to wait if it is of the same quality as what we have already.

You can't say the AI is a major flaw, Scawen has even said he will look at it again and it's not finished. If you say that you might aswell say EA shouldn't charge £30 for NFS games until they "fix" the bad handling!
