This is a very well known thing to be improved, and the devs have it on their list I believe. Everyone knows that the sounds are not 100%.

Good thread, yeah i think there is scope for diesels in LFS. There could be some smoke from the exhausts, I know people think there is none from the new diesels, but I've followed plenty Mondeo's on the motorway at 80mph plus, when they put their foot down there is a very slight puff of smoke. Not like there used to be on diesels though.

This has all been mentioned in other posts though, rotary engines, LPG, diesel, biofuels, hybrids.... doubt the devs will be finished by 2010 if we keep adding stuff for them to do

I'd get your flame proof trousers on mate, lots of these S3 threads been going on for months now....

The replies are pretty much always the same too - Karts, Trucks, 4x4s, Pickups, Monster Trucks.......

Probably a stupid question as you will have already checked, but are you running other memory or CPU intensive apps at the same time?

I always close stuff in the system tray I dont need and always close all foreground apps (IE, Firefox etc can use a bit of memory sometimes).

Although sounds daft with 1GB ram, should be fine!

Good luck.

Also good note: goto wingmanteam.com click gadgets and get the "centering fix" and the DXTweak2 toy. You will need them both eventually (centering fix stops the wheel from going out like your trackings out, DXTweak2 allows you to trim the axis as the pedals become more dead over time (they most likely will).

Oh, and I dont use the Logitech profiler atall its gack, but whatever you prefer and works on your machine

Have fun!

Quote from farcar :On a demo server with lots of potential wreckers and short races that you don't mind missing one or two of, I often used to jump into spectator mode and go 'Wrecker Huntin'.

when I find one, I'll put up a bit of commentary on what the wrecker is doing, which apex, they're sitting on / bridge they're hiding under etc. Make the real racers aware of the wrecker.

Then I'll ask the wrecker a polite question along the lines of 'Why are you sitting on that apex? How is it fun to wreck racers?' (they almost NEVER respond).

If their antics continue, I'll initiate a vote. By now most real racers on the server realise that you have assumed some kind of quasi-server admin role, and will vote with you very quickly.

The whole process can take less than less than 1 minute.

Sometimes, you start commenting on them, they'll pretend to start racing for a while. Keep watching them and commentating their movements etc. Sometimes they start wrecking again, but I found they often disconnect because they know they're being watched.

Nothing makes me grin wider than seing a wrecker disconnect from a server in disgust because everyone is aware of what they're doing.

The demo server is actually very important to the sales of LFS.
If you're a good person and want to do a good deed, jump on, have a spectate and HUNT the bastards!

Even if you don't race there anymore.

Damn good idea mate. Good post too made me laugh.

Yep I have to agree Biggie has nailed it.

I do look at the speedo on the way off the brakes before a corner, because usually you know, you need to brake down to x MPH before letting off and going for the apex, I then check my apex speed, then get back on the throttle at the proper point.

I just need to find out how to get fast.... hmmm..

Yep I'm digital too, I can actually *just* see it in my periferal vision, so I dont have to take my eyes off the road.. cos I know what speed im doing... could be this crap resolution though

But yeah like everyone else, its mainly a hotlapping/fast lap thing, mainly when racing you have to watch the mirrors so speedo drops on the priority...

Same two camps as always in these dicussions - the ones who say there is a problem with the physics and the ones who dont.

I'm gonna sit in the middle just so that there are 3 camps

I posted a country idea too, here - http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=281

Also one on for teams.

yep Stikiky can quote how much time this costs on any S1 track if you have it the wrong way. Also pays quite often to have different tyre/wheel settings for different direction tracks, it can all add up to the times

Sony would have them dragged over hot coals, they are very protective of their intellectual property. Plus LFS is a rival to GT4 and that would fuel the fire.

Just my 2pence :P

All fair comments I think. Might only be worth doing on LAN or same-country Internet Private server. Lots of people who dont know what the BTCC tag means will complain about some contact, and others will take it too far when they find out what its trying to do.

I think this discussion will help me now when racing, especially when stuck behind someone looking for gaps.

aye right enough, forgot about the laggy bouncing... ah well... LANs it is then!

Mind you with NTL testing 10Meg internet out things might get there in the end

I had loads of problems getting this to work. Getting the latest drivers from Logitec helped get the option working in Control Panel if I remember correctly. Also I dont use the Profiler any more as that helped too.

You'll get it working the in the end, I'm sure!
BTCC style racing anyone?

For those of you that do not know BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) please see the following websites (can there be that many ppl that dont know it?) youll get the idea.

http://www.btcc.net
http://www.btccpages.com

I've noticed after watching some BTCC racing quite closely that they race nothing like how we race in LFS. They are far more aggressive and make their passes mostly with contact! There is a lot more blocking in BTCC (Jason Plato is an expert), and it all makes it damn fun to watch.

We seem to pussy foot around in LFS and call it "courtesy" - why? In LFS we have nothing to lose, these guys in BTCC have a lot of money and metal to burn... mind you they have alot more to win so maybe thats the answer...?

Would any BTCC fans be interested in having a server with BTCC in the title to suggest this type of racing? Its not recking, but that will happen obviously if there is a lot of contact. Maybe its a silly idea, but just sometimes when racing, I see a very small gap, that if I were racing in BTCC I would probably go for, however in LFS I think "ah better not, CRC etc".....

answers on a post card!

jinx, someone posted a link to a site on LFS chat box the other day, that had only a login page and no way to register. Did you enter your details into that by chance?

If so, I notice that Victor has posted a message about possible stealing of LFS accounts, please PM him from within this forum and you can attempt to get it fixed.

If you havent, then its a pretty strange situation. All I can say is try someone else's computer and log in with your account onto the LFS websites to make sure its all working. Then you will know that its something to do with your house/pc/internet connection.

couple of small Hotlap ideas. Not sure if mentioned before in another thread somewhere else... :s
  1. Where you can see the "Main Hotlap Nations Rank" - it would be good if each country linked to a list that showed which racers make each country up, and what their times are contributing to the rank.
  2. A new list showing "Main Hotlap Teams Rank" would be cool. Showing hotlaps by Team.
Maybe the same things with the Nutter ranks too?
