Quote from Seahorse :I fail to see which bit of this sentence people don't understand...

Your making a fairly large statement without providing evidence Seahorse. Pointing us to an MS bias blog isnt evidence by the way.

Everyone with an ounce of sense that doesnt work for Microsoft knows that IE6 is like surfing the web with your trousers down - fully patched or not.

If you dont believe me when I say there are unpatched bugs (ok so this isnt IE directly, but IE is the attack vector) how about a little read of this advisory - http://www.microsoft.com/techn ... rity/advisory/912840.mspx

So please give me some evidence that in fact you do know what your talking about instead of just making wide statements that count for nothing.

I dont think you get an account on the forum until you use it, but I could be wrong. I didnt think the figures added up either....

Seahorse, not sure where your coming from, but I work in Computer Security and IE has several UNPATCHED holes in it.

When a hole is found in IE and posted on to the web, it can take MS up to 11 months or more to patch it.

When a hole is found in Firefox its patched within 5 days.

I know where I rather stick my balls.

I use IE when I have to (I dont any more) and Firefox the rest of the time, getting rid of the spyware on a 100% fully patched machine was getting boring.

But yes this is sliding off topic and really the origonal topic is closed.

[edit](still OT)
Just checked out your link Seahorse, that Popular Tech site - thats pretty transparently written by MS fanboys Im afraid.

I can blow most of their arguments out of the water FF Vs IE.

On another note - I tried IE7 and I really cant fault it. There you go, I said something nice about MS... god what is the world coming too...

I found that with the latest Logitech drivers, you need to go into control panel in windows and de-select "combined axis" then do the same in the game.

deggis, there were problems with cookies when the forum was upgraded, I assume its not that... (as surely youve used it fine since then) but try finding your lfsforum.net cookie and deleting anyway, that worked for me. Theres a thread somewhere in the website bug section.

Quote from Dethred : Good tech support is one thing but releasing an incomplete game without making darn sure what is missing and could cause problems is irresponsible.

I dont agree with some of your post, but generally a good balanced post. However that last line caught my attention.

When S2 Alpha was in early testing the community almost pressured the devs into releasing it - there was more noise then (to release something) that there is now (about the game being incomplete). Also I think the Alpha release was about to get leaked to the public, which obviously wouldnt have been good.

I think we should all calm down, stop harrasing the devs for updates/completion and let them get on with it.

Probably one of the reasons there are only 50 public racers online now (I havent checked, just quoting your post) is that there are so many wreckers. People prefer to play in private games to keep that sort of thing down. You can get in on these private games by getting to know people, or I think the CRC have a private server thing going on, not sure.

just my 2 pence.

I like some others can agree with some of the review. Good on Richard for writing it and coming here to discuss it too, I think I would be hiding somewhere right now

There is a lot of critism thrown at the rear-drives in LFS. Now, I'm no *fast* racer, but I'm average-to-quick in most of the cars (given the right amount of practice). As for the race cars, I havent really done a huge amount of milage in - but I do know this about the RWD cars: The GT and the FOX are absolutely brilliant.

The feeling you get when the GT is on the absolute limit is brilliant, you get that noise of the tyres peeling (not the correct phrase, but youll know what i mean if youve done it), the way you feel like your in complete control of the rear end. Thats got to be a Sim with some proper physics doing that. Although, as Ive said in another thread, im no physics expert.

I dont know Richard, but maybe he's done degrees in physics....

Another thing is this, perhaps all racing games have "tamed" the handling of the cars as they have been too lairy. Do we want the same thing to happen to LFS? I happened to find some of the cars a little tail happy in GTR sometimes too... I'm not sure anyway... as I said, Im no expert..

I have read many reviews of real life cars, and alot with 500hp+ and RWD are difficult to keep in a straight line, maybe thats what LFS is showing us?

Hell I dont know, gives us something to talk about while Scawen goes quiet though eh

doesnt work mate. Dont know why. We tried with the latest (thin) PS2.

PS2 to PC works usually though....

This sort of thing usually boils down to the fact, that probably your school doesnt want you playing games on their networks! (just guessing, its the usual story).

Although I have mentioned before the trivial IP checking is a bit of a pain, as people do not always use 192 or 172 networks for their private networks, also APIPA isnt catered for (169 addys).

Dont know if Scawen can figure out another way of checking "private" network...

Android also said that the 5xxx series is "utter crap"

I dont know about that myself, never seen one in action.

Get a 9800 pro or 6600GT if you want a decent card that will last a little while.

A new card will help, but it wont really help the 12 car grid situation. It will allow you to run higher resolutions with greater detail, but the CPU does the work with multiple local-cars. Its also used a bit when playing online with large grids.
