Engine Sounds Too Similar?
Is it me or do all the cars in LFS have very similar engine sounds. I would like to see a bigger variety of engine sounds in S3. I am interested in hearing all your thoughts on this. Thanks
This has been mentioned many many many times before, try searching the forums.

LFS generates all its sounds, rather than using samples like all the other sims (except Racing Legends ) At present LFS doesn't sound to great because nearly every car is using a production four which should sound fairly similar without full detailed modeling of some parts of the engine, particuarly the exhaust.
Yup, at the current stage LFS sounds like crap BUT you get more information what the car is doing, because the engine sound matches 100% what it's really doing. You can't get that information when hearing recorded samples, altough samples sounds better. I hope in S3 we could have some kind of new sound engine which would mix up samples and generated sounds.

But the generated sounds doesn't have to sound like crap... check these out: http://www.performancesimulations.com/files/ToddSim10a.wmv

As far as I was aware, Todd uses samples and nicked those from some other game.

Oh, I thought that video wasn't sampled. Too bad.

Sampled sounds can sound both fantastic and give you as much if not more information as LFS, programs like the GPL Sound Overlay will take data directly from GPL, and then use a mixture of samples and generated sounds to create the most fantastic sound, being a 1960s highly stressed racing engine it actually sounds slightly different every time depending on what mood it's in LFS will never sound that good because none of the cars in LFS sound that good IRL
