Erm, babelfished from the main page:

Quote :Cordially welcomely with the Intel® Racing route! The season 2006 promises again much tension and is called running. And in this year for the first time the BMW start cleanly F1 team in the king class of the engine haven - with support of Intel, since end of last yearly of official enterprise partners of the BMW cleanly F1 team. Prove your abilities as formula to 1 pilot: take to place in the new boliden of nod Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve and take part in you in the Intel Racing route 2006. Come to one of our numerous stops of the Intel Racing route and drive yourselves you into our rank list of the Top pilots. We invite the ten best drivers of the season to a large conclusion vent, on which the winner of the Intel Racing route 2006 is determined. As main price a BMW M6 signs. On-line Game And who would like still something to practice or to one of the route stops not come can, our on-line Game offers nevertheless 1 Feeling to formula - attractive prices expect the best drivers also here. Register equivalent now and give yourselves you to rubber.

Now the bold bit, I translate as meaning, if you cant make it to one of the stops on the tour or want to practice, you can buy the game at 'attractive prices' ie. get an LFS licence, and expect the best drivers online (that's US!).

Here's the URL http://www.intel.com/deutsch/r ... deuHPAGE+Main_Racing_tour , perhaps one of our native german speakers to do a better job on the translation.

Hmm, lovely babelfish...

Yeah, I think my first lap in the new patch is going to be F1 at Aston North Reverse. Should be interesting taking that long left sweeper at full tilt then trying to brake down for the hairpin while still turning.
Like Rouen in GPL, I could never get it right there.

Quote from stevewhite :It feels like christmas eve... only on christmas eve you KNOW when you getting what you want

Yeah, its cruel and unusual

Like saying to a kid on the first of december, 'One day this month, you're going to get all the presents that you want, and each day we're going to tell you one thing, or give you clues, but you wont know which day you'll actually get the presents'

Yeah, but I'm talking about the commercial operation charging people entry to the 'Pit Lane Theme Park Experience'.

If I was an F1 fan who stumped up my cash to get in, got a go on the simulator, and was faced with a fictional track that I'd never seen before in my life, I'd be quite pissed off. In that context, you would rightly expect that the simulator featured a genuine F1 track.

Ok, crazy thought.
It seems fairly likely that BMW Sauber will be using LFS in their new Pit Lane Theme Park, which is apparently being unveiled at Nurburgring GP this year (may time) http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s491/st94118.htm.

So the question is, will visitors to this theme park be expected to drive round Blackwood, or Aston? Will the multi-million pound BMW theme park experience include some fictional tracks from some developers that 98% of visitors have never heard of?

It seems unlikely to me, which means that OMG we might even, if we're incredibly lucky, get a genuine F1 track in the game. Most likely the Nurburgring GP circuit (not the 14 miler) seeing as thats where the theme park is starting.

Excellent. This must be the first serious F1 simulation since GP4 and F1C. Its about time someone had another stab at it.

Looks like all that Intel sponsorship in the German ESL pro leagues has finally come up with the goods. Thats networking for you.

Well I've just nipped in from the garden to see if its out yet. No joy, but seriously gents, if you are in the UK at the moment (southern bit anyway) GO OUTSIDE, it really is the most fabulous day we've had for months and months.

Spring is here, now where's that damn patch?

My wife is taking the kids over to her mothers today so that I can spend an un-interupted day doing DIY. So please release the patch today, preferably about lunchtime as they get back at 4.

I cant help but think that there is something fairly substantial left to be revealed.
If you think about it, since the original S2 alpha was released, we havent seen any new art content at all from Eric. So even allowing for say 3-4 months off after S2, that still the best part of 5-6 months work that we presume has been done by Eric.

So far we've been shown the updated tyre sidewalls (maybe a weeks work at most), the new cockpit displays which would have been part code anyway, 2 new aston configs involving some new kerbs and tyre walls which doesnt strike me as that much work, and lots of new lamposts (which is probably a fairly tedius cut and paste job, but still not months of work).

So the question is, if Eric has been working full time for 5-6 months, what exciting stuff has he been doing?

Yeah, I have failed to get reg expressions full stop. I mean I know in principle what they do, but arggh that syntax does my head in.

Quote from nikimere :it's simple, why use one method of slowing the car down when you could use 2? you stop faster.

Well, only if one method isnt powerful enough to lock the wheels. Which is rarely the case in LFS cars seeing as we can adjust the brake pressure up to the max.

I sometimes use some extra engine braking on the last shift just before the corner to loosen the car a bit on turn in and get it rotating nicely.

Can go wrong though if you shift a bit early

I think that experimental test sounds pretty good. Much better than LFS currently sounds.

Hmm, that sounds kind of Ok for a first stab, but I dont see how its any better than LFS currently is.

Yeah, you'd definitely need to use shaders for heat waves, but smoke from a knackered engine could be done just using the current tyre smoke system with a different coloured sprite coming from the exhaust or from under the hood.

Quote from Breizh :Stupid question, but how does that equate to lift?

Well the net force on an object due to air pressure is the sum of all the pressures at its surface all the way round. So if the pressure on the underside of an object is higher than the pressure on the top side, this causes a net upward force.

The force applied by pressure always acts directly perpendicular to the surface itself, so if you have a high pressure area on the lower front quarter of a tyre, this is applying its force backwards and upwards.

Also the top surface of the tyre acts a bit like the top of an aerofoil, in that flow tends to speed up over it, causing a drop in pressure, which contributes to the net lift from the tyre.

Quote from silent_wind :hey wait a min , what's that RC thing you're talkin about ? is it a sim ?? if yes , how come i've never heard about it ? is it somethin like LFS ? and most importantly , is it realistic ? anyone's tried it here ?

http://www.virtualrc.com/

Like it says in the man's sig.

It is very realistic apparently, although I admit when I tried it, i couldnt tell whether it was running at ten times speed, or the cars are just insanely fast. Probably the latter, but its extremely hard to keep the cars on track as you need reactions like a ninja.

Quote from Hallen :Well.... tires (oops, sorry) tyres do have aerodynamic properties too. They create drag and vortices in the air stream. It would be cool if they did model the tyre aerodynamics

Yeah, in open wheelers tyres actually generate lift because the air can flow freely over the top, but not under the bottom, so you get a high pressure spot in the lower quarter on the front of the tyre.

Whatever Kid. Just keep taking the medicine dude.

My comment was simply that ride height affecting undertray downforce is a feature which has been in some sims since good old Geoff Crammonds GP2 (probably just a look up table back then), and it would be an important feature for aero cars because in reality it forces important setup decisions.

Scawen is obviously aware of it and wants to do the job properly when he gets time, and thats fine with me. Quite where you get the idea that you need to go off on another one about NetKar I have no idea.

Anyway, I dont want to get into an argument with you, I value my sanity

Quote from Scawen :I don't even know how long it will be, as I haven't done the research.

Hmmm, I feel a little physics project coming on.

Fair enough, I knew it was moderately complex but assumed it was in progress. Look forward to it being implemented.

I think its a reasonably important development, as the current undertray force is a pretty big number compared to the wing forces, and if its not behaving realistically it has a proportionally large effect on the realism of the simulation.

Quote from KiDCoDEa :funny u think nkpro is fab and yet it doesnt even have anything remotely similar to undertray/rideheight effect.
in fact, u can still drive car upside down in nkpro and i didnt saw any complain.

God, I swear you're on crack these days. If you'd like to point me to the posts where I say that NKPro is fab, i'd be happy to eat my own testicles.

Shame there is no mention of the undertrays. They were the third big problem with the aero physics in S2.
Aero downforce and drag from the undertray is currently constant (but speed dependent) regardless of the angle of the undertray or the gap beneath it.
I'd rather expected that to be fixed, but maybe they're saving it for another update .

Hell, even GP2 had undertrays that gave different downforce depending on the ride height.
