Wow. I may need to reinstall this game. I stopped a while back because I am always a few seconds behind the leaders and could not seem to nail the times even with decent sets.
Not so much bored as some but some things that I think would improve the product which increases users/community...
- Better Sound. Much Better Sound. Plz. Better Sound.
- Jazz up the textures some.
- Menu needs to be sexier.
- Godlike Sets seem to create a have and have not environement. New drivers feel overwelmed.
Outside of those improvements, my next biggest complaint is no ones fault. Lack of drivers later in the evening in my part of the world. I find there are not many people on in Western North America (Canada and the US) very often after about 10:00 PM Mountain Time. I might be forced to go back to single player racing against AI. Race2 looks kinda cool I guess. The sound rocks the roof off.
But the last year or so I log in at 10:00 PM MST. There's maybe 10 public servers with very few people in them. Race a few races with 2 or 3 others (usually the server is Redline, CRTC Single Seater or Darkside) and log off and play Bioshock, Counter Strike or Richard Burns Rally and the like.
I love LFS but something is missing. Overall Cohesiveness of the experience in terms of online? Eyecandy? Not sure. Is it because I do not belong to a large TEAM/CLAN and cannot get into private servers and as a result have to make due with downloaded HOTLAP sets? who knows.
All I can say is ... WOW that looks like it would be pretty cool! I am going to try that. You go 105 and then push your head towards the steering wheel in the custom view?
Blueflag = Don't fight the lapper for position. Maintain driving line and remain predictable. Lapper must use reasonable passing technique to overtake slower car. PERIOD.
Blueflag DOES NOT mean "hit the grass f'ing noob!" simply because you race twice as much as the guy in front of you and you just happen to have a better setup (you got from someone else) does not give you ownership of the server.
If nightly pick up races don't get more friendly, the population of drivers will continue to dwindle and eventually you will have no one to race.
Help others. Especially those that are slower as they are obviously newer or you will one day only be left with semi-fond memories of a great online racing community instead of belonging to one.
Wow. Different strokes I guess. Alot of different strokes. And no. I was not really looking for the be all end all answer. I only was interrested in what the responses would be to see what people though. I am finding FOV in the low 90's is doing the trick for me.
I know there are a few FOV threads that discuss this and so on and 90ish seems to win. This is not quite the same question though.
However. I am more interrested in Widescreen players specifically. Not so much the surround guys with triple head setups. Just plain and simple 16:10 and 16:9 Widescreeners.
I ask because I just started playing again on my Samsung 226BW 22" 1680x1050 screen. Having issues finding an FOV I am confortable with.
What FOV just feels right and gives you your best times.
If I arrive at a track/car combo I am un familiar with I usually go grab a set from Inferno. I have the ones above installed. And of course the RACE-S default one.
I start with the Default Race setup. Do about 3 or 4 laps and watch my best time. Then I see if I find either the HIGH Downforce or LOW Downforce EASY set from the above link is easier/faster and then last but not least I try the Inferno Set I downloaded. I stick with the best one for my style. As time goes on and people that are using other sets give you theirs to try, you try those. Eventually I end up with a set called something like BESTFERNOfoxBLgp1 or something like that for a given track/car.
Now if I could just become a decent driver. LOL. But I am often happy to be a few seconds behind the leaders given how much I drive compared to most of them.
I often like to go back to replays and look at my driving lines and so on or just watch the carnage.
Lately though I watch newly saved Multiplayer replays and my car twitches shifts quickly from side to side throughout the whole replay. Especially when viewed from behind. I did not notice this prior to Patch X.
Although I had not used the sim for months prior to the Patch X getting applied as I was doing other things.
I played LFS for about a year. I usually get on about Midnight Eastern time. Late ya. But I am in the Western US/Canada Moutain time. There was always SCCT servers Bronze, Silver and Gold. Redline was always full of drivers. There was always something to do. Great fun every night.
I had to go away for a while for health reasons. Recently saw Patch X come out. Got back in.
Have been loggin in to LFS last coupla weeks. Again between 11:00 PM and 12:00. But lately very few races with people aside from some drifting (which I am not into)..
I use TrackIR for Combat Flight Sims. Once you spend a few hours using it you can never go back. I dont even know I am using it until I try to fly without it.
It is by far the best. A wheel turns it into an even better game.
I have not been racing much lately only because I am up to my eyeballs in a sim called Battle of Britain II:Wings of Victory but I am going to start spreading my time between the two more evenly. I miss the racing.
I have ordered mine. Originally for the best WWII flight combat sim in the world (Battle of Britain: Wings of Victory) http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/bob/ Sorry about the plug. But TrackIR is awesome according to everyone I know that uses one.
That said. I am also going to give it some time in LFS and see if I can get used to it.
