alright then I will. Offensive? thats bit harsh to say, it is not porn or racial prejudice image or whatever...

OK u wanna talk about OSD features, lets talk. In my first pic, I thought it will prove it was my own image not flogged from somewhere on the net. (...or from some PS1 mag...) Also, i recon it gives u a background knowledge of that drifting moment, eg. what rev, speed, boost, turning angle the car was at, otherwise, I could have easily parked the car among the skid marks at the apex, turn the wheel to full opposite lock, turn off all OSD features and take a screenie for ya.... ("oh yeah, 90 degree drift angle, mad!!" someone may say since it LOOKS that way), and I recon that is bull crap. Real drift is real drift, not a fake pic. right?

I have all the game details switched on since day 1, with MAX res all the time on my Athlon64 3Ghz...need I elabrate more?

It was my own screen shot, no a PS1 mag etc. I dono what res u r looking at it in. Maybe u got the "resize image" feature for IE switched on since my pic is 1280X1024 at 32bits and it wont fit in ur IE window. Try to expand it first. The car is actually in the shadows of the trackside trees, so there will be no cast shadow visible in this case. You are just use to sunny/bright conditions, this one was "evening" setting.

Besides, it was just a "here u go, my drift pic, see it?....next!" that kind of picture, not a Davinci's 18th century masterpiece! Just for ppl to have some visual fun, thats all, I am not trying to win an oscar award.

hi, when i run a server, what does packets per sec/smoothness used for? is it for the anamation smoothness for each car? What should I set it to, 3 or 4 or whatever?

here is another one from me, doing some 4wd GTR drifting. It is bit of a bull crap drifting coz u have to over-speed, over-turn at the entry and then full lock counter it and floor it...bit contradictory to RWD techniques. But it's all fun...for a while.

Yeah, i noticed that too, cant see the gear indicator on the dash...I have to turn off the steering wheel...which is a bit of a bummer....
How do I use Pit Spotter?
drift_apprentice

Hi, I downloaded the Pit Spotter, hoping it would be like Nascar style radio warnings, eg. "clear left, car right..." But I cant get it to work. What is this InSim stuff? and what port do I put it on? I left it on default and nothing happens. Does it only work on the oval track or any track? thanx.
We need to be able to see which gear it's in!

The patch U is great, lots of nice improvements, but, the re-worked dash has a new position for the gear indicator and it is CONSTANTLY blocked by the steering wheel. Can we get a new patch to fix that? The prvious versions were all good and able to see the gear indicator....
Australian Pro Drift Team - D1GP (New)
drift_apprentice
S2 licensed
Hi, I have started a new team for Australian pro drifters. We drift XRR, FXR and FZR, hence the title.

There is no web site yet, I'm working on that. If you would like to join, just change your LFS driver name to something like: D1GP - My Name. (the "My Name" section should be white)

Join my server: D1GP Server on week nights and weekends and let's get some D1 style fast drifting happening! XRR Team skin available, I am working on other 2. Just ask me on the server.

Hi all,
I have just created some LED tail lights for XRT, XRR, FXO and FXR. Looks way better than original ones, especially on GT cars. Please back up yours first just incase u dont like them. Enjoy.
Bigger, brighter Shift light with Shift buzzer
drift_apprentice

I dono if this has been covered or not...Basicly i recon we need a bigger shift light in cars, coz the ones we have now are way too small and not noticable. Maybe make them brighter and bigger??

Also, a yellow light comes on when u reach 50rpm before the shift point, then the red light comes one when u r 25rpm before the shift piont and the shift buzzer comes on when u reached the shift point?? That way we can be ready for the gear change instead of anticipating for the light to come on all the time?

In the options menu, make them optional if ppl dont like the yellow light or the buzzer and u can alter when they come on, eg. either 10 or 25 or 50rpm or whatever b4 the shift point for the warning light to come on?

of course there is only 1 perfect racing line. If u go away from it u will slow down, so i think it can be done on the server side.

Yes the graphics engine will need LOTS of improvement **IF** we really want a good visual effects like track reflection, spray, w/screen splatter etc. But I dont wanna see too much effort been put in that area coz it will turn into an arcadish driving sim, eg. NFS Underground -> all looks, little realistic handling. Just some simple indication of rain drops will be fine, and the sky gets very dark and cloudy etc. Spray can be just the standard white smoke effect all the time. Keep track reflection simple i guess. Oh, glowing brake discs in the rain will be ultra cool though!

Grand Prix 3 and 4 had changable weather, and dry patchs, so I dont think it is too hard to program. The drying racing line will be a bit hard but not that hard, just pre-program the racing line on the track with more grip values after the rain stops for x amount of time. And then always double or triple the grip values on the line than the overall grip values of the whole track as the track gets drier. You programers may know what I mean...

Day/night time transition wise, i am not sure. LeMan 24hr has that feature. Lighting, sky, animation, shadow wise, I think it once again comes to graphics overhaul. Just keep the effects simple, effective is the key i guess. But, i do realise that LFS does not utilise ur Video card capabilities much, maybe in S3, it should use some Direct X features for time transition and wet racing effects?

Setup wise, it does get more complex. But face it, setups have to suit different situations, we dont wanna use slicks in the wet with stiff suspension and stupid brake force/bias rite?? I remember in British Touring Car series, they always face rain/sun changes, and always gambles by using semi wets or full wets when the track is drying but more rain is still coming etc. U know what I mean, this is what we need to put in S3, more intense racing atomosphere by incorporating realistic elements in life, not too much eye candies.

I will for sure. Put it on man.
Night time/wet racing or Changable weather
drift_apprentice
S2 licensed
If it is not too hard to program, maybe in the weather selection area for the tracks where u can select Bright, Cloudy etc, there is an option for Light Rain, Heavy Rain and Storm?? that will be cool, coz with the water on track it will make racing more fun. The reflections, and water sprays will be an extra eye candy. With lightning and thunder going every now and then, it will be cool! Also, if the rain gets heavier or lighter or even stops for a while during the race it will be cool too, coz that will change ur tyre choice and driving style, dry patchs/racing line will appear. This will add a bit more realism espeically to endurance races.

Also, maybe we can choose to race at Night as well as Bright, Cloudy, Dusk etc. And if there is a real time change or accelerated time from day to night, it will be nice too.

Drift Tracks needed!!
drift_apprentice
S2 licensed
If only there are at least 1 track purely designed for drifting... U sure can drift on current tracks, but they r not designed for drifting, what i mean is their layout is for grip racing.

A good drift track need few doglegs(mid speed chicanes) so u can link the drifts together. Also hi speed sweepers and hairpins. Corners should not be too far apart from each other. If u look at the drift section on Tsukuba or Sugo or any race tracks that offered a section for drifting, u will c what i mean -> corners that r close to each other, especially chicanes! The track width is not too narrow too, so u can do some hi speed drifts without easily hitting the walls.
