Quote from sam93 :The error appears when I load the document up, provided some screenshots.

looking at the second screenshot, i would say your files corrupted. do you have a backup? (shame your not using vista, then you could have used the previous versions feature)

Quote from Albieg :Simple: the WAN settings don't have to be configured for some ISPs. Some providers don't even bother about authentication, so PPP CHAP/PAP username and passwords can be what you like. Less hassle for the provider, less hassle for the users. And for the LAN, you have DHCP already there.

and the username / password to start the session will only work for your phone number.

but with the main issue, i'm definatly thinking its a driver/hardware issue. did you try another nic?

I sometimes have a hard time resetting the netgear routers to factory settings using the pin. i have the wireless version of this router and the default ip for it is indeed 192.168.0.1 but i would run ipconfig just to double check the default gateway and try browse to that address.

have you tried loading up a telnet program to port 80 to see if that can connect (then type in a couple of http commands to see if you get a response)

Quote from danowat :Also, it could be a "workgroup" issue.

i doubt thats the problem as the router doesnt care about workgroups or domains

"knocks out the internet"

can you expand on this, is it only http traffic or all traffic. have you tried running nslookup, ping or tracert to an external ip/hostname?

does this also effect the wireless clients?

have you looked into using the dhcp service in windows 2003? running a network without dhcp is a support nightmare and quite expensive (time wise)

Quote from Bob Smith :Sorry Tristan, I blame Mr. Red Flag for wanting to leave early and then getting us stuck in London traffic for 2.5 hours....

ah yes, the brilliant idea of "breakfast in the hotel is too expensive so lets go to london to eat! then lets drive through the center of london to go home because it must be quicker"

next time, im driving...

Quote from SamH :There looks to be a bit of an issue trying to remove Vista from a disk partition and retain a MBR for your XP. I'll get more info on that.

um, its so easy to restore the MBR anyway. just boot from the windows cd into the recovery console and type fixmbr

and spsamsp: if you need this much help burning vista to dvd then you shouldnt even think about installing it
