If get a victory by accidentally taking out the person I am trying to pass, it doesn't feel like a victory at all. It feels dirty.
If this was a friendly contest to see who is the better racer, then it should not count, because of the contact, and you should rerun the race (hopefully without the contact this time...).
I tried the race limited demo a while back. The driving wasn't bad, and the graphics were ok, but slightly arcadey for my liking (perhaps wtc cars really can really turn on a 5p coin)
On a slightly different note - I found out after playing it for an evening that it too has been infiltrated by the same IGA adware that the big hoohaa was about in bf2142.
I had decided that I was going to boycott any games that included IGA when I read about bf2142, just out of principle, because I don't want to feel like a "target market" everytime I am entertained, and then there is the issue of it opening "hidden" connections to the IGA servers every time you run the game...
This is just my paranoid opinion - don't let it stop you trying out the game if these issues don't bother you
I would have too look it up again. The reason I know this, is that it was taught in a design and advertising ethics class while I was studying many years ago (and not in the UK, I don't know what the UK laws are). The perception of what would constitute a sufficient change in a design is entirely subjective, and therefore difficult to prove or disprove, unlike text or music, where plagiarism would be blatantly obvious. Hence all the lengthy legal battles we had to refer to as case studies...
I only mentioned this because 'legal' was mentioned earlier in the thread - and to illustrate that it would probably not be applicable in this instance.
Every design has an influence from somewhere. In a perfect world, a designer would sufficiently disguise the origin of their design, but that is hardly ever the case, due to the cycles of fashion (just look at all the water drop vista-looking logos popping up all over the place now as an example.)
The issue of 'recognisability' is mainly applicable to trademarked material rather than copyrighted material.
I always try to be unique and creative - even if it is not as well received as being fashionable would be.
In this instance it comes down to ethics. Did you get permission to use trademarked logos on your skin? I suspect not, and for that reason you would legally not have a "copyright infringement" foot to stand on. Since you could then be held liable for copyright infringement yourself. The copyright laws, as far as they apply to the graphic design industry in most countries, state that if the designer of the "copy" can prove that they have altered at least 30% of an image, the new image is their own work. Since I have not seen the team's skin, I don't know whether that would apply here. But the legalities aside, I think that in the spirit of the game, the team should definitly have asked for your permission, or at the very least acknowledged that they have used your skin as a starting point. Surely, if you have a team of people, at least one of them would be able to create something decent and unique? As a graphic designer, I would not feel very proud of racing for a team that was not dedicated enough to create their own unique image, or at least get somebody to design something specifically for them. Thank you for highlighting this issue - I will be very careful with any wording that accompanies any future LFS skins that I decide to make and upload.
Why do they have to give those cars such ugly BIG backsides? Even if it did improve aerodynamics, I still don't know whether it is worth creating such an ugly image of the cars they are supposed to resemble. :scared:
I like that idea. I don't think the hands would work very well on the side pods, but I think it a good idea to limit the length of the ribs to the engine cover. They look a bit too much like zebra stripes at the moment.
it seems as if the tools above the message creation box don't work in firefox 2 - they work fine in ie7 though, so I'll just use that if I need to add an attachment. e
the silver strip would break it nicely - an idea could also be to have a red decal with a white outline on the blue part of the bonnet and blue decal with a white outline on the red, just to tie the two halves together a bit more. e
I think the long nose of the car suits the split down the middle - are you going to be adding more details such as decals etc to it, or leave it plain? e
hehe, thanks Hopefully that helps me get past people I am not fast enough to do it without intimidation...
I actually wanted to make a racing skin, but this was what got stuck in my head, so I had to do it first. Would you suggest adding anything to it? I was thinking of maybe putting two hands on the front wing, but I don't know whether I should just leave it as is and move on to the next one. e
As somebody who is very new to this game, but experienced in real life racing, I have experienced this from the business end of the blue flag.
In my understanding, this game is a simulation, in other words, a digital recreation of real life. In real life racing, slower drivers on the track have always played a role in the outcome of the racing event. The only difference is that the gap between the abilities of the leading drivers and slower drivers is less extreme than it is in the game, since a rookie would never be allowed to compete in a professional event. That is why tolerance and patience need to be applied.
Just like real racing, a slower driver has the right to stay ahead of a faster driver, if they are competent enough to drive a defensive line and stop the faster driver from overtaking. This obviously excludes intentional repeated swerving on a straight to block, as this would be illegal in real life racing as well. If a driver is being lapped, and the blue flag applies, then they should move out of the way as soon as it is safe to do so. The faster drivers can't expect the slower ones to "teleport" out of the way so that they have no impact at all. Sometimes having an impact can't safely be avoided.
To conclude, in my opinion a possible solution in future versions of the game would be to add a black flag facility as well, with similar rules to the real racing which this game simulates. Three blue flags without yielding, then a black. Intentional contact (no matter how slight) - black flag. This would normally be dealt with by the race steward, but server admins could simulate this role.
