Quote from dekojester :I tried it with a saved grid with 32 AIs, and LFS did not boot that grid, nor did it start 30, it started 32 fugly BF1s with AI control.

Of course, best way to know for sure is to hop in a server, with 32 people, and let 'er rip seeing if it works.

32 AI? Am i missing something? I thought it was only possible with 20 or so AI's!

Will this affect anything but the visuals of the wheel taking more turns?

Edit:
Hmm, still isn't matching the virtual and real wheel! When my real wheel is turned 90 degrees, the virtual is turned ca 180 degrees. It turns faster around center, and slower when nearing the limits.

Edit2:
Nevermind, i figured it out!

Also, getting the wheel properly set up, taking the e30 m3 out on a trip around cadwell really did bring a smile to my face!

I'm having some difficulties setting up the steering wheel (dfp) in rFactor.

I can't seem to get it 100% linear, to make the virtual steering wheel on the screen to match the physical steering wheel in my hands. It matches the movement around straight ahead +-90 degrees each way, but after that i have to turn the dfp much more than the virtual wheel. Is there any way to fix this?

Also, I've heard RealFeel is a must, and all that, but frankly, I like the feedback from the wheel better without it. Not as good as in LFS, but still better than using the plugin.

That's like saying "this is by far the least smelly of my turds!".

Still a VW.

I would be very grateful for that! I have some basic knowledge in a couple of languages, so hopefully I will understand enough to make it work with an AVR instead of BS. I will send you an pm with my email! Serial communications is no problem, been using a rs232-usb converter in school, and also made one myself (doubt i'll find that though..), but i think i have a rs232-port on my computer at home.

Quote from byte1 :I guess it's the opposite way - programmer costs a lot, microchip itself is cheap .

The thing I've got is here - http://www.parallax.com/Store/ ... roductID/126/Default.aspx. Module itself: http://www.parallax.com/Store/ ... /ProductID/1/Default.aspx.

I've just purchased a AVR STK500 kit now, so i will be trying to make something out of that, time will tell if i succeed. Would be grateful if you would share your other sourcecode, the one intended for the computer itself!

Also, 49 bucks for the controller itself (although it is a module, with some other features besides the processor) is kinda much! An AVR-controller is around $3, but then i only get the chip.

Quote from byte1 :Yes - I am using serial connection (USB and FTDI, though). Basic Stamp already is a microcontroller and it's controlling the motor through a ULN2003 (or compatible) chip which is necessary because of the currents or smth .

But the idea of that program is very easy - it waits for input and then rotates it accordingly (comparing to previous rotation). Driving a 5-wire stepper is also very easy, look for tutorials in the internet.

I just got my hands on a Atmel AVR STK500 devolopmentkit for $50 or so, thinking of going with that..

Is the BasicStamp controllers expensive? In my "regular" electronics-site i noticed the programmer was cheap, $10 or so, but the controller itself was very expensive! But maybe i was looking at the wrong item, a circuit with more than one controller or something like that.. Any thoughs on this?

Quote from byte1 :"Gameplay by a friend" - I added that for a purpose. I hope there won't be flamewars coming now.

Oops, sorry man, didn't read that in your post

Btw, can you explain this Basic Stamp for me? Is it a language for programming the motor directly, or do you use a microcontroller to control it? I have been using the Mikroelektronika PIC's in school, and I'm having a lecture about Atmel's AVR in a couple of minutes. Is it something related to this?

Also, I'm assuming you're using a serial port to communicate with the controller?

Is there a way to get around this limit? I would like to drive a full grid of AI with my friend over lan, just to have some extra competition and some more overtaking. Why is this limit there anyways? Is it because of limitation in network connections?

Well, i guess somebody has to be first to mention it. Demo account and BF1?

Anyways. Nice work. Not the biggest fan of the nokia-gauge, but the other one was nice, maybe a bit low "resolution" on the steppermotor, but i guess a servo will fix that, which will be your next project as you say.

I wish there where some official servers, one for the TBO-class, one for the fox or fo8, and one for the GTR-class (and perhaps one for fz5, lx6 and rac). With racestart every half hour, ca 20 minutes races, and 10 minutes of qualify in between. And of course some variations in tracks. Maybe a points-system, which could be viewed through lfsworld.

Something like CTRA, without the licensing-system.

Tried this out for 3 minutes, noticed the wheels on the fzr was a bit off, and also it would not go back to menu when pressing Q, the screen would just flicker, if you know what i mean. If i held in the 'Q' button i could see the menu, like as if half the frames were the menu, and half was from the parkinglot.

Also, nice little project this, from what i have read this is just an experiment for your own sake mostly, however i think it's awesome that you keep it open and share it on the forum! I've only had one semester C++ programming in the school, barely touching the basics, but you're code was actually (almost) understandable for an amateur like me!

Quote from 240DRiFT :well a faster and better car is way better then a better looking track and graphics...
yeh i love patch x, i want s2, perents wont let me get it, wich is the reason i drift on x, i might buy s2 for me and my friends using a servay site wich said if i refer 30 people to join i get $2500 free to my pay pal, im gonna do that and buy s2 so that way i dotn have to spend money and my perents wont find out

Sounds like you're in for a disappointment. Don't think that will happen very soon, the $2500 that is. But best of luck with it!

Quote from Montoyafan :Unfortunately we just had two idiots clear out the whole server because they thought it was just a hoot to wreck everyone. Just sat on the front straight ramming everyone as they came by. Ruined the whole server and quickly it was empty. No admin there to boot them unfortunately. I have their names if you want them. I've never been involved with trying to have someone banned so I don't even know how to go about it. But they thought it was just the most fun they had ever had. This is a good server and I am glad it was set up. When the racing is good and clean these cars are great to race, and the TBO class hasn't traditionally got a lot of love. Keep it up but let's see if we can get the dipsticks to stay away.

You should send Sirsmiley a pm with the names of those two morons, and if you have it, a mpr that shows their behaviour. Then he can deal with them the way he wants, hopefully that means a ban.

I agree that there was some problem on one of the races i took part in, the Kyoto Infield (can't remember what it's called at the moment). There were some people there that was as far as i could tell intentionally ramming people. But that's the way it will always be on a public server without any registration. However I think the admins did a decent job spectating and finding those who did infact cause trouble.

However the race on Kyoto Ring Long, I was in the front, so I didn't notice any bumping in T1.

Wow. Just wow.

It's amazing how this server has grown in just two days! The other day i joined the server, after reading the first post in this thread. I remember it was just me, Smiley and some fella named dev or something like that.
Now i just raced on a full grid there!

Actually, today is the first time i've been first of a full grid around a whole lap! I was so nervous i almost shat icecreams, so when i got around the first lap i went straight to the pit to let the faster drivers past!

Still, it was a blast, with a full grid you always end up finding somebody with the same skills, that you can fight with throughout the race. And thats the most fun for me, even more than winning a race. A good even fight is what turns me on.

Good luck to you Smiley, and best of luck with your server! But promise me one thing, don't let it end up running just one track (especially As National) in the end!

I have been to Foo Fighters (with queens of the stone age as warmup), Bruce Springsteen, and Metallica. Best of the lot was of course Bruce!

Quote from The Very End :I have not been on any concerts this year, but I allmost got tickets to Metallica concert, aswell as Avenged Sevenfold. Too bad I was too late and it was sold when I wanted to buy a ticket

I had 4 tickets to Metallica, one for me, one for a cousin, and two for two different friends. But i made a huge mistake and gave the one ticket (that belonged to my friend) away to my sister the day of the concert, since i totally forgot the fact that it belonged to my friend. When he showed up a couple of hours before the concert and asked for his ticket, i got the worst guilt-trip of my life! I ended up buying a "blackmarket"ticket on the way to the concert for him, for 1500NOK. Since the original price was 850NOK, i don't think that was very much. In conclusion: if you really wanted, you could just show up outside the concert and buy one there.

I also heard rumors that Bruce-tickets was sold WAY cheaper than they orignially cost, when the concert had started, because the blackmarket-dealers had just mis-calculated the demand. Dunno if that is true though, I actually doubt it.

I rarely post anything on forum, just like to lurk around and read up on things, but in this case i can't help myself.

Anyone know why there's a limit of 8 cars in forza? Is it because the hardware can't handle anymore? I find it incredible stupid with only 8 cars, it's when there's 20+ cars the races become fun/interesting!
(ok, just saw the end results, 16 cars? i thought there was a 8 car limit, isnt it?)

The racing there looks good, sadly its impossible to find anything similar on xbox live..

Quote from AstroBoy :Not true with the skills remark. They had no experience of an endurance event but they did have skills for the driving seeing as thats all they ever seem to do in the show.

Anyway Franky what be the going ons of the preparation?

Yeah, i guess i'm wrong about the skills remark, they do drive a lot of cars.. What i meant is they jumped into a car they didnt know very well, and barely got any laps before the start, only the few laps required to qualify (i think, dont remember that well). But what a great episode it was, my favourite i think. And it really showed that you dont need a killer budget to race in serious races, which is great!

Back to business: give us some updates please!

Any news about this race? I really like endurance races, so i hope i can find the time to participate in this one (although it will be like in the topgear-episode where they enter the silverstone 24hr, no experience and no skills )

I have the catalyst control center, rarely uses it. I'll try the next time i get the problem (i know i will!). Acer has lots of stupid programs for everything, and they are all butt ugly! I remember when i got my computer, and installed msn 7 or so, and tried to send a file to my buddy. Acer security-something automatically wanted to encrypt an set an password to open the file, so i just deleted the program. But then msn didn't work anymore! I wish computer-producers would make it a choise when i start up the computer the first time, if i want those stupid programs. Not just make it default, because most users have no use of them at all. Same with norton 30 days trial.. If i want a 30 day trial of a lousy antivirus-prog, i will download it myself!!!

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest..

Funny story, after i wrote my last response, i shut down my laptop, and went to school. At school, after the class had begun, i fired up my good 'ol acer, and before it startet up windows, it went into the thing were it checks the disc for errors because it wasnt shut down properly (which it actually was). After 5 mins of that, windows started in a resolution unknown to man, the mouse arrow was huge!

And then it started beeping, constantly. Nothing was on the screen except the blue background, and the hourglass (mouse thingy).. I had to force it off by holding in the off/on-button, and restart the thing. Started it this time in safemode, but nothing happened, restartet again, and it worked. Got into windows, and the resolution was set to 640x480 or something like that.. Changed the resolution again to 1280x800, max for the screen, and it was up and runnig! Great achievement, my favourite acer laptop! I LOVE YOU!!!

Anyways, back to topic. I'm home again now, connected my 20", started up, resolution was set to 1280x800 on the screen, and both the screen on laptop and the "external" one was on. So i set pushed the "fn"+"screen mode"-bottons on the laptop to only use the external screen, and it changed automatically the resolution to 1600x1200 as it usually does, even though this doesnt fit the screen. I changed it to 1680x1050, and started LFS. Now more resolutions was selectable in the options-menu, so i could select 1680x1050 again!

In conclusion, problem solved! I just doesn't know why! All i know for sure, steer away from an acer if you see one! No, by the way, don't do it. Don't steer away, run right over it. It deserves it!

No, my 20" is running at 1680x1050 now (in windows), but when i launch the game, it changes to 1280x800. But isn't it funny that when i use 1280x800 i get "widescreen-lines" on top and bottom of my screen? 1280/800 = 1680/1050, so there shouldn't be any problem filling the screen with that resolution, i would think.
Although, this is just one more problem in the endless list of problems i got with my acer laptop, i hate it so friggin much! Maybe it desperatly needs a format anyways..
Problem with resolution

I just discovered a little problem with lfs that i haven't had before. I usually connect my laptop to a 20" lcd-screen when i play, and when i start up lfs, the resolution is set at 1680 x 1050, same as i run in windows, max resolution for the screen. But now when i started up lfs, it was set at 1024 x 768, and it looked pretty bad. So i went in to change it, but the option for 1680 x 1050 wasn't there. The best resolution i can select is 1200 x 800, and with that resolution i get "widescreen"-lines on top on bottom of my screen, even though my screen is a widescreen.

Anyone knows what causes this? I have a ati mobility x1400 if thats useful information, by the way!
