I think everyone should be on U20 at the moment. It really is a lot better than U and it runs very stable (I did a lot of racing with this patch since a few months and never experienced problems).
It also depends on the Patch level of the server, I don't know what the Patch of the Pool 3 Server was.
Well, the sesaon is over anyway and I hope there will be an official patch soon.
If you are talking of the Scirocco Players Racing Team, I'm really wondering what happened there.
As far as I can say, the Scirocco Players are a bunch of friendly drivers. They are a well-known team in the german community and are clearly able to drive fast and clean and treat other players with respect. Our teams know each other since quite a while and had some good racing together.
Maybe it was just a single team member having a bad day or who knows what. Let's give them the opportunity to speak here.
Didn't one of the dev's recently say, the strength of LFS is that it can (or will be able to) simulate "anything on wheels"? So I really think at some point in the future there will be much more "things on wheels".
Hey, I didn't say I have a problem. Everything runs fine. Concerning the gameplay-feeling and my pb's I even don't recognize any difference between my new and excellent running system (fps limited @ 60, but surely higher fps are possible) and my old AMD 2000+ with GeForce4 Ti4400 (fps around 20-50 with low gfx settings).
This is meant to be a more fundamental question.
But I'm wondering how you are able to play with a 16MB gfx card at all? This sounds weird to me. Even 64MB is pretty low. So I suppose your whole system is running at the limit and that indeed may affect the input processing of LFS.
Physics @ 100Hz (Q: Does this depend on the FPS?)
Tyres @ 20 x Physics (= 2000Hz, but varying, if physics calculation rate varies).
FPS @ Whatever I want / my computer is able to do.
If the answer to the question in bold letters is "YES", then my next question would just be:
Does it depend only on the hardware-limit of the FPS (i.e. what my computer is able to do), or on the software-limit (which I put in by activating VSync or specifying a fps-limit). If software-limit, then is there a difference between VSync and fps-limit?
I really would like to hear more opinions. Thx alot!
I think, when the computer is slow in general, such that the fps will drop down to the bottom, it clearly will affect the input processing (since the machine is just overstrained (right word?) ). Dynamic detail reduction helped me on my old machine.
I noticed that on my new PC, VSync really makes it better (visually)
In the german version of the LFS manual (there's no such comment in the english version), there's said
Which in negation could mean, that low FPS leads to low input processing and physics calculations. I don't believe that to be honest.
I really would like to hear the devs comment on that (can you here me, devs? ).
I have searched this subforum, but found no answer yet. Sorry, if this has been asked before.
I have a new Intel Core 2 Duo EN6600 which runs fast as lightning. My GFX-Card is a rather small-prized ASUS 7600GS, but it's enough to run LFS with nice graphics at a limit of 60fps, which is all my old TFT can display.
Now I heard the rumor, that limiting the FPS in LFS will also limit the frequency at which LFS processes inputs (from my steering wheel).
If this is true, I think it could be a big disadvantage for me in races.
And what if the framerate drops lower than 20 (for example, that was the lowest framerate on my old PC). Will this result in my car bouncing left and right, due to a "lag" of input signals?
I allways thought, LFS does the physics calculations at 100Hz, no matter what FPS I have.
So what about this rumor? Is it true?
I feel perfectly comfortable playing with my limit 60fps and never noticed any problems.
BTW: What's the optimum minimum sleep setting? The lowest as possible? I have 3ms right now.
Thanks for your replys!
Regards,
HorsePower
EDIT: What if I turn limit FPS off, but VSync on? Has this also the effect of slowing down input processing?
1) A data field that shows, who has uploaded a set.
2) A data field that shows the LFS Version (something like S2 alpha U), which the set was made for.
3) The possibility to use HTML in the comments of the sets. (or BBCode and maybe even a nice editor at some point in the future).
BTW: Did you know that the tag PMT is already used by the "Pimp my Team"-Team? (Papafant and others). Just wanted to inform you (I think there are several other teams with identical letters in the tag).
I tried it once with similar results. Wasn't really fun, allthough usually one or two glasses of wine really make me a bit faster, because it stops me from thinking about my driving too much.
Oh, I didn't see that. Just updated all the PHP files. Now it works.
Ok, maybe an additional menu button "quick find setups" with this inferno-like table would be a good solution. So each user can decide which page he wants to use for the search.
In the find setups page you are able to read the comments, which is nice. But you have to do 2 selections to specify a certain combo. In the quick finder you will be able to access a combo with 1 click (but not read any comment until after that click). This click should then lead you to the usual find setup page but with the combo selected in the search criteria.
So a user has the free choice, which way she/he prefers to search a setup.
All right, I tested it a little bit and it works very well! But I also found some little bugs.
#1) The inferno-like table doesn't show the track names, only the cars.
#2) User with level 3 get logged out when they try to change their profile.
And one idea for future updates: The inferno-like table could also be used to quickly select the setups, one is searching for. The DB frontend is really nice, but a user should also be able to search setups via such a table (just like the inferno setup field).
Maybe an additional menu point "quick find" or something like that would do it. Or just a link next to the "download all setups"-link.
Sorry for bothering you with my ideas all the time, but I really like your work! And I promise it will be heavily used in our team/club (see my sig) and maybe beyond. Also I don't want to rival with the inferno's setup field, it's a great place where one finds mostly WR set's. But I think one needs an alternative with a wider range of sets (not only fast, but driveable).
is it possible to implement the possibility of a guest account?
Guests should only be able to download sets and not to upload anything, so that only trusted people can upload, but everyone can download (which would be good for advertising the team).
Really nice work!
EDIT: In the german translation, the logout-link was commented out. Why?
EDIT2: After doing some tests, I have some suggestions.
I noticed, that every user (admin or not) can change/rename/delete every uploaded setup. I would like to allow some people to upload their sets, but not change anything in the database (except their own profile).
I think this could be easily achieved by introducing a new user level.
A more complicated solution would be, that every uploaded set is connected tu a registered user. Users (non-admins) should then be only able to change the stuff they uploaded by themselves.
Just a few thoughts ... Don't know if it's possible to do that.
EDIT3: Sorry, for editing that much, but I have still another idea.
The menu "missing setups" could contain a inferno-like table. That would be a lot easier to check than this endlessly long table.
What about faster111? I have allways so much fun reading his posts (I'm not aiming at his dyslexic problems, also the content is quite funny most of the times).
