As I don't have a youtube account it isn't there. If you want to host it, feel free to do so (thanks in advance ). If you need anything (like a .f4v or .flv file) please say so. I don't really know how youtube handles that (it probably converts everything, regardless what it is?), so if you need anything, please tell me.
Just remember that it's meant as a highlights video - and not as a review video (review videos tend to be more informative). The aim was to create something similar to this style (cool looking, a bit of information, and - uh - cool looking): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adY5qtSsajE
(Whoops - giving away all my inspirational sources )
Thanks for all the nice comments! I wasn't really sure at the end if it's good or not but apparently it's decent enough Although I have to say that it would be only half as good without the commentators. Thanks guys! You did an amazing job.
Regarding the filesize: It could've been 10 - 20% smaller if I'd have gone for 30 FPS instead of 60 - but it's a bit smoother with 60 so I guess the tradeoff is okay.
If anyone's interested in the settings, I've uploaded the screenshots of the x264 settings in meGUI: Here, here and here. With further readings here, here, here and here. While each video requires its own fine-tuning I think it should be a decent starting point (done with build 1173 of x264 - options always subject to change. I guess 2'500 KBits would've been also enough).
I'd like to apologize to M. Pesonen for that hit in Race 2. After watching the replay again, I found out why I couldn't avoid it:
I've seen you go to the left but afterwards you were hidden behind the A-Column of my car and appeared when it was too late for me to avoid you. Sorry about that.
Other than that it was nice racing for me - I had some nice fights with lots of people. Thanks for that!
After some trouble I finally managed to finalize this small video showing some of the well known and less known highlights of the iCON Touring Car Championship 2009.
Alternatively there's a streaming version which you can find here (it likes to stall the CPU a bit for unknown reasons. The quality should be the same but it only has 30 FPS instead of 60):
It was actually a pretty interesting race, considering only 2 FO8's were on track. Sorry for that bump Bambo and too bad you touched the grass at the end. It might've been a very exciting finish at the end. Next time I should deactivate the power-saving mechanism on my monitor. No idea why it suddenly went to a hibernating state
I was wondering if you have to apply to this bump drafting - when someone came from behind he always chose the other car to bump leaving me in the dust, making me think that I forgot to pay my dues?
I'd like to thank Joe, Darren, Tom and all the others who were organizing this. I already knew that you guys are great but now a lot more people know, how amazing iCON racing is!
The qualifying was surprisingly good - the rest was pretty much the same old 'get sent to the back of the field' like in all rounds. But I can at least claim to have finished all races of the iTCC!
This round was a little more fun than the rally event in season 2 thanks to the safety car It's also a nice proof that you can overtake in rally cross without contact (I have no idea how we managed that Yann ).
It's a shame though that only so few bothered to show up.
I most probably won't be able to join this one. Either I'll come back late from a celebration in the mountains or I'll be lying half-dead between our institute machines trying to figure out why the algorithm doesn't work.
Yeah - for some reason I thought it is allowed to overtake once the green flag is up. I have no idea where I got that from but it's obviously my fault.
I think that was the best iTCC event I had so far. There were lots of great battles even in the back.
Sadly there was a lag incident with Gonçalves (I think) and me which sent us both spinning around. Sorry for that!
And for some reason I didn't manage to get good times after the shootout - even though I was using the same setup throughout the whole event.
