Quote from thisnameistaken :I'm pretty sure this has only started happening since I installed the Firefox Developer Toolbar plugin, but the forum now crashes my browser when, while posting: I open the [More] smilies link, select one or more smilies, then close the pop-up smiley window to return focus to the main browser window.

I don't expect anyone to fix it but thought it was worth reporting. I also apologise to the wider forum community if my smiley usage is no longer apropos and badass like it used to be.

Doesn't crash here (none of the vB forums I visit crashes it) and have had the web dev toolbar installed since.. I dunno, way back (just used your method described to insert the smiley).

Quote from Forbin :@Ian.H: The difference there is the curb is on the inside of a nice wide sweeper, whereas FE has them in tight corners (one after going under the bridge at FE Gold/Black) and in chicanes that are shallow enough to be straight-lined.

That said, I think it gives FE part of its character.

Are we both talking about the same thing Forbin?

I thought the OP was "complaining" about the curbs being too high and causing issues when people drive over them, hence the pic I attached.

Got a stinking headache atm, so I might have misinterpreted

Quote from henrico-20- :i only know them as cerbstones! don't know all english terms.

I don't know if they are ment as run off's, because they are all on the inside of the turns. if it where runoff's they would probably be placed on the outside. with TBO cars or XFG/XRG/UF1 these thing are no problem at all. only with the faster cars, they roll over in no time. it is difficult to avoid cerbstones all the time. ecpecially when there are manny drivers online, all wanting to go first treu the corners.

I'd suggest that "many of the drivers" in that case need to learn how to race and that sometimes, it's _you_ that has to back off.

FE's curbs are small in comparison to some

In 4 years of having team servers with the admin password having been posted in the members section of our forum since the start.. not once have we had an issue (maybe because we're racers, not skidders, so naturally the IQ level is much higher to start with).

My suggestion would be not to let rogue retards have the password to start with, and / or "employ" more mature people for your team.

Quote from sun :Hi,

I am sick of people, connecting to the OCS server, and trying to steal cars and leaving. So i made this thread to tell you what a cruise Server is. A cruise server, is a server what is running an InSim that connects to LFS and changes the gameplay.

[ snip ]

And within 3 sentences, you blew any credibility you still had and made the rest of your post about as useful as a lace condom.

There is no such thing as 'an insim' and insim most certainly does not 'connect to LFS and changes gameplay'. No wonder you failed so desperately in the coder's forum, you had no idea even what you wanted to code, let alone have the decency to listen to the people who tried to help you.

Sorry to say, but you, sir, are nothing but a joke

Quote from Jakg :Ian - If you want network connections hit start and type "ncpa.cpl"

That sounds more like the main net conns control panel window? What I miss is the ability to get into a specific connection's properties quickly from the systray. Here, I can right-click, select 'status' and click 'properties', wasn't as simple as that IIRC when I needed to do it at work (just needed to change an IP address). I'll try what you suggest though

Quote from Bob Smith :At work, our IT guy is so unimpressed with Vista, even after SP1, that he's rolling out XP 64-bit for those of us that need to compile 64-bit code. I wonder how typical of a response that is.

Mine worked out the other way. After I told the boss that workin on an iCrap was more of a headache than it was worth, he bought a new box with windoze for me and asked me what I wanted, XP or blista.. naturally the reply was 'XP' to which I got back 'blista it is then'.

After spending a few weeks working on it now, it seems to suffice for what I need it for at work (PHP / Perl dev / SSH sessions), but I certainly see absolutely no gain at all over the XP install I have at home.. they've just managed to rename / move things about for no real reason (Add / Remove Programs is now something like Program Manager for example.. you can still only add or remove from it.. so why it needed a name change is beyond me). Network connections now require half a dozen clicks to get into the properties rather than a simple right-click on the systray icon and in ya go.. and as for that sh!tty UAC

I most definitely won't be downgrading from XP to blista for myself any time soon.

Quote from mrminor28 :This kinda suck, in lfs about 25-30% drifters or more, they should do 45.. For Fz5 and Xrt o.O it would be awsome..

I don't think this is what "sucks"

And as far as it being "awesome".. that's a serious matter of opinion.

As for your percentages.. they're immaterial. LFS is a _racing_ simulator (apparently). Notice the distinct lack of anything related to skidding about like an idiot in the name / slogan?......................

Quote from mrminor28 :we asking just 45 lock this is not hard to do IT! only that thing. We dont need spoilers or something just More max lock .

It used to have 45 degrees IIRC and the devs removed it, for a reason..............

Funny how we don't see racers complaining that the cars have too little lock, yet this is supposed to be a 'racing simulator'. I guess the current values much be pretty much sorted for their intended use

Quote from Bramski :I just thought that it made a big enough difference to the look of LFS that i'd give a heads up incase others wanted to try it.

That's fair enough. I responded to what I quoted as you seemed quite surprised that some people prefer realism over OTT, unrealistic effects. I'm also glad you said 'difference' not 'better'

I'm sure many kids (and skidders) will love it, so you sharing the info I'm sure will be happily accepted by a fair few.. but don't be surprised that not everyone does.

Quote from Bramski :

[ snip ]

I can't believe people are slating this little tweak, it makes LFS look just as good as any other racing game or sim out there at the moment

[ snip ]

I don't think the tweak itself is being slated, just the end result.

When I saw this posted in regards to rF, after seeing the screenshots, was pretty horrified at the results... but it seems that most kids today don't _really_ want realism, they just want effects (not only in games, but in movies too).. and there's noway on earth that my eyes see anything like the state of all the screenshots I've seen. I'd need a damn eye transplant if they did.

I _really_ fail to see what all the ranting and raving is over this sh!tty bloom effect (generally speaking).. much like requests for "sun flare" (sun _glare_ I can understand).

LFS will never look as good as any other modern day sim out there IMO. The entire gfx engine is far far far too dated and / or limited. Only time it does is when wanabee modders hack about with shaders for the likes of rF mods. Get someone who knows what they're doing and those results are often great.

Not really much to wonder.. they're too busy ignoring it and adding [racist language removed] chars that the majority of the community _need_, to improve the game  Heaven forbid they actually worked on an improvement suggestion, like limiting setup options to not be completely arcade-like, working on the damage model to make it not completely arcade-like.. working on car (GTR) interiors to make them not completely arcade-like.........................

Quote from Sponge :Well, after many hours of searching, trying and what not.. I finally got it to work

The thing i discovered -you guys probably already know this- is that you should export a .dds file to .pgn so the transparency isn't lost (.jpg doesn't support transparency). And then export the .png to .dds again to make it work in LFS

[ snip ]

Just a FWIW.. my guess is you originally tried to save the DDS file without the correct data (missing alpha channel / possibly wrong DX# mode etc). The DDS settings can be somewhat overwhelming if you're not used to them

I've never had a problem saving directly as DDS for LFS or anything else.. but depending on the results will depend on what DX# mode you'll require... something to search the net about if you're interested in more details (too much to go into here and I'm no expert ).

Quote from klingon :I have one more question under my desk I have one of those hard plastic sheets to aid in sliding of a wheeled chair will the pedals slide at all?

Couldn't say for sure (I'm at work atm so can't check the underside of my pedals) they do seem pretty stuck much stuck to the floor at home.. but I think a lot maybe down to driving style.. whether you're "haphazard" with your feet etc. I have an old VHS tape between my pedals and the wall at home just to make sure they don't move (although it's all carpeted anyway) as sometimes my feet can move a bit quick / "sloppily" and possibly end up pushing the unit backwards a little over time. If you apply a more downwards pressure rather than forwards, you may have little problem as there's also quite a substantial foot base plate as part of the pedals unit too which obviously then helps to keep them steady if your feet are resting on it

Sorry it's not a definitive answer.

Quote from klingon :I read somewhere that the wheel does not have force feedback or 900* turning on the pc and those are only supported on the ps2 is this right?By the way I got it for $49.99.

Has both and maybe it was originally designed for the PS2, but it works just fine on the PC. You may want / need the Logitech Gaming Profiler (free download from Logitech's site) that has some useful features (such as splitting pedal axis, for one) but I've used a DFP for probably 2.5 years now (it's never even seen a PS of any version) and never had a problem with it

Quote from xaotik :OK, this is my turn to be the eccentric, over-reacting idiot again but... after further thought on the matter; I'm totally disgusted now by what lead to the creation of such a thread and the foundations upon which the content of the thread is based, not to say the title. It's a disgrace and although the OP has explained himself and what is on his mind it doesn't change the fact.

As I sit here working and churning it through my brain - even if "the blame isn't put on the child" as has been said by the OP the whole core of the argument and what brought it up is rotten, selfish and just brings out the true colours of the consumerist, demanding gamer. I can't even imagine how I'd feel if I had that said to me from one of my customers, let alone put in writing.

Un****ingbelievable.

And IMO, this is exactly what's wrong with a big part of the world today... to many PC people trying to censor way way too much. What happened to a spade being called a spade?

I'm not saying kids should be referred to as nails in coffins, and it seems the OP wasn't really suggesting that, merely that LFS' development (using the word 'progress' would be an oxymoron) has become pretty dismal over the past 2 years and echoes my own thoughts from way back about Scawen seemingly being bored with it and just picking and choosing stupid little pointless (at least for now) things to work on.. much like a kid picking at his peas on a dinner plate rather than eating his steak.

Yeah, we all paid for S2 knowing it was an alpha product at the time. I certainly still didn't expect it to be 2 years+ later (if I'd known that was going to be the case, I simply wouldn't have bothered upgrading my S1 license). I'd love to see the look on my boss's face if I turned up one day and said I'm only going to be putting in 50% effort for the next 2 years so I can sit and have a think about my kid... unfortunately, too many people here think of Scawen as their long lost uncle or something.. he's not, he's a business entity and, LFS development is business (it's available for sale, thus no longer some kind of "hobby" or the likes), nothing more, nothing less and to that, IMO, the dev team have certain responsibilities. I worked from home for 7 years as something that started as nothing more than a hobby for me. The moment you start charging for that, you have a responsibility to produce... of which IMO, LFS just isn't doing anymore.

Good luck to Scawen, Geraldine and the littlens.. but there's still a responsibility towards paying customers... end of the day, if it wasn't for the people paying for licenses and the interest in LFS, Scawen wouldn't be able to afford to have kids / house / etc, whether he wanted them or not.

Quote from tristancliffe :Hi

I'm hoping to improve my online galleries at some point. I used to use Simpleviewer, which was great when I had very few pictures, and worked out of Picasa.

Now I use JAlbum with a slightly customised Bananalbum skin, but it's still a bit too slow and naff for other people to use. I'm sure my host (Dreamhost) is part of the speed problem, and that can't be helped... I also use another skin for the video gallery, which is okay, but not great either. Is there also a better way of managing galleries of videos? I won't ask what good video/audio codecs to use, because that's a forum worth of discussion in itself!

Do people here run large galleries (e.g. 20 or 30 sections with up to 700 photos in each one)? Is there a free (or very cheap) solution, that also have clever stuff like slideshows, watermarking etc. Preferably one that works with JAlbum or Picasa, though I could change if it's that much better

I second tweak's suggestions.. couple of nice web-based albums (will need to upload the pics into them rather than using a standalone app to generate thye gallery in its entirety etc).

Quote :It's really annoying - you'd think the net would be overrun by cheap/free decent album generators, but it seems not.

I did start working on one (image manager / gallery builder) but recently had to rebuild my windoze install and not got around to reinstalling my C++ IDE / components. Maybe I'll get around to finishing it soon

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Ah but is now going for the WR with his new wheel

Just because he might throw the punch first doesn't mean he won't go to A&E, all im trying to do is give him advice as if someone i didn't know me came up to me in RL giving me crap i wouldn't stand for it very long.

A&E!? roffle roffle. Since the first punch I threw at 4 years old to today, I've received a broken nose and a split lip (same incident) when I was 18 (long time ago now). A brief lesson for ignoring everything I'd been taught as a kid... never take your eyes off the other fella.

Thanks but no thanks for the advice.. I'll stick with my Mum's advice.. how to look after yourself and to make sure you clout hard enough they don't think about doing whatever again soon.. has worked wonders so far

If I wanted to give you crap, I would.. regardless of your "advice" and I would be the one walking away afterwards, too

Quote :If he wants to carry on like that, then so be it, he doesn't even really play this game anyway, hes not been online since october but still feels its his duty to come on here and cause crap. And i don't like it, but its a free world...

Just because I don't play, doesn't mean I don't have anything to do with the game. I have several projects related to LFS that are currently WIP that I share with the community (or will do with the ones that haven't been released yet) for free, so I'd suggest you start thinking before typing in future. When an interesting and worthwhile discussion appears that I fancy contributing to, I do.. can't help it if lately it seems to be mainly idiots starting threads.. and most of them skidders, how ironic.

My guess is you're a little whippersnapper. If you seriously think my reply was "over the top" and "abusive"... I suggest asking your parents to burst the bubble and remove the cotton wool padding they've so carefully wrapped you up in. In fact, fsck it... explain to me where I went "over the top" and what exactly was "abusive". Ironically, you're the one who called him a 'fool' in your post, I never made any such claims.

The ashamed call is cute too. You must be all of 12 or 13.. right? Sincerely hope that wasn't a poor attempt at a guilt trip. If it was, you're _really_ barking up the wrong tree.

I suggest opening your eyes next time you go outside... you'll notice that we don't all walk on roses.

And people wonder why skidders get a "rough deal" around here. The ratio of skidders to racers creating stupid threads of late is just increasing exponentially. Not the best approach to be taken seriously.
