Exactly this. Almost every oval race I do is actually really good fun (I have a huge iRating compared to my license so I'm always in top split), but in the past couple of months I've only had one road race that I would describe as "fun".
I'm currently spending a bit too much money on RL racing to be able to spend much on iRacing. Buying the McLaren and a few tracks soon though. Might add some ovals then
Not my fault baseline is unbelievably shite. I did 10 straight clean laps after you left! It's amazing how stupid the tyre model is. The other 2 people on server crawled round for a lap then went 2s a lap faster than me on their hotlap......
I saw a video on youtube of a class A around Darlington. It appeared he was playing a game of "let's see how close I can get to the wall and stay there for the entire lap".
Sorry I should have put a :P at the end of that. I was being semi-sarcastic, I know what actually they are very different, but from the outside they're the same. I actually really enjoy oval racing in iRacing, mainly because I'm surprisingly good at it. Came in the top 30 in the last rookie street stock season (admittedly that's only R + D, but in an R+D road series I'd be nowhere near that good) and SS @ Charlotte is so much fun, because of the strategy of trying to pass someone.
It doesn't help that there's so many oval tracks. I'd be forking out >£100 if I wanted to run even anywhere near a full season in any high up oval series. And as there aren't many of them (and fixed schedule is the same as open), you could easily be in a point where I can't run anything high up for several weeks, unlike road. If I bought let's say the McLaren and the HPD, I'd easily have a choice of >D class road series to run every week. But on oval I wouldn't without spending alot of money
FTFY. (once I've done 3 more races in the National :P)
I can't afford the tracks at the moment. I have 1 (soon 2) tracks out of 12 on the Truck schedule, so there's no point in me buying it. I'm going for road because I can participate in most weeks already in one series if not all of them.
EDIT: Same applies to the SS C Class schedule. I have 2 tracks I think? [no wait 1. :P]
EDIT2: And the other thing about ovals is the lack of variety really. I've raced on both USA Speedway and Thompson. But what's the difference? They're both basically the same. Brake with ~50m to go. Turn in. Feather the throttle. Floor it out. Repeat. It's like getting Spa, changing the lengths of some of the straights, add some banking and voila, you have a new track. Apparently. I can see me buying a set of Ovals which are all nicely different. So say I might have Charlotte, Bristol, Martinsville, 'Dega, Daytona, Pocono, maybe Phoenix. But why would I buy Texas? It's basically the same as Charlotte?
Grats. So glad they changed the MX-5 schedule this season, now so much better. Okayama Full >>>>>> Okayama Short. Laguna Seca is a great track in the MX-5s (even if I still can't get turns 3-5 right :|), and quite frankly as is Summit Point. Just need to get rid of Lime Rock and it will be perfect
Will probably buy either NH or Silverstone. Probably the latter. Really want Oulton Park but it's not used in much. Same for 'dega. And I assume I won't be able to run in the Carb Cup until I buy a Gen6 car anyway?
I have:
Basic
Skippy
Many Impalas (National, B, A)
Road Atlanta
Mosport
Brands
Mid Ohio
Watkins Glen
In my basket already:
SM
McLaren
Spa
Suzuka
Daytona
Need something else, probably a track foar my 20% off. Going to use my Gen6 credit but not on the Gen6 Chevy. (Probably going to wait for the Toyota just to piss rednecks off.... assuming they get it! If not then the Ford). Was considering getting another Roval so I can use it for both oval and road (I do a bit of both), but the only 2 real ones left are NH and Homestead (EDIT: ok there's Indy too....), neither of which seem to be used much on road or oval..... :/ Any ideas?
I really don't understand why so many people take everything so seriously? It's just a game, some of us clearly need to get out a bit more. JP is kind enough to put this on as a challenge to you guys and for quite a few people to race in their first 24 hour race, and after the 24 hours is up he's then got to go through threads clearing up loads of crap and dealing with ridiculous protests. Matt (this is a serious question), did you even look at the replay before you protested Frank? I think I was the first admin to check the replay, and I thought either you or me had the wrong lap down because I didn't see Franky do anything wrong. We're talking Darin Gangi levels of blocking here. And even when he "took you off" (which yes ok he did), that was only because he clipped the inside kerb. Trust me, you were lucky to get your punishment down to a warning.....
Even when we had the iTCC a few years back which was ridiculous in so many ways (good and bad!), there was some bitching but even then nothing anywhere near this level. Maybe complaining about everything is common place now, like Football Managers constantly complaining about referees (perhaps rightly, but this never happened 10 years ago did it?) - you can't expect anyone to be perfect, not least a 18 year old n00b behind the wheel of a fast virtual car who's been up for 20 hours and is high on Monster. And you can't expect JP to be perfect either. Or anyone running anything. Everyone can try their best and, whilst some people have their habits some other people might not like, as long as they actually take a minute to think about what they're doing then the entire thing becomes better for everyone. There's much more important things to worry about than losing a second in a 24 hour race.
But anyway, I really enjoyed helping admin, thanks to JP for inviting me. Some really good racing (at times I may have forgotten that race control audio was being broadcast...... :S) and no massive fails for once from me. Might try and help out again at some point soon if I have the time and if JP lets me! Thanks to all the racers and particularly the broadcast crew which I had on in the background quite a bit. Really enjoyed the sim racing discussion in the middle of the night between Oscar and Mr Panoulas.
