from www.teamidt.net:

Quote :iDT Simulations, LLC. and Virtual-E Corporation , are proud to announce the signing of an exclusive 3-year license agreement with the Champ Car World Series to develop a PC-based Champ Car racing simulation. iDT Simulations LLC is a worldwide team of racing software developers, drivers and enthusiasts dedicated to making the most realistic racing simulations possible. Over the past six years iDT has established itself as the premier developer of Champ Car software in the sim-racing community. Now, working alongside Virtual-E Corp., iDT will focus its international team on creating the most authentic Champ Car racing experience. Designed for both race training and home entertainment, Virtual-E Corp.’s VirtualGT Personal Racing Simulator is a premium product offering precision controls, high resolution graphics, and an astounding sound system that delivers the most complete virtual racing experience possible. “It’s the perfect combination of hardware and software to make the racing experience as realistic as possible.” says iDT CEO Pierre Pelonero. “We received an outstanding reception to both the VirtualGT and our simulation software at the recent 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Our team was founded by Champ Car World Series fans so we want to represent the experience of driving a Champ Car as accurately as possible and we are proud to be a part of the finest racing series in the world.” The simulation is slated for an April 2007 release to coincide with the opening month of the 2007 Champ Car season and will incorporate all the drivers, teams and circuits of the 2006 season. An add-on is scheduled for later in the year which will update the simulation to 2007 specifications, including the new Panoz DP01. Both the VirtualGT Personal Racing Simulator and iDT’s simulation software can be experienced first hand at Champ Car events throughout the 2007 season. For more information on the Champ Car World Series simulation, see TeamiDT.net
For more information on the VirtualGT simulators, see Virtual GT.com

As an interesting note, earlier a Champ Car game has been announced by SE Games, but since then we never heard of it again. iDT will create this sim on basis of the ISI engine, but as a stand alone game.

As a Champ Car fan I really hope they make it a real simulation. They had something to show on the SEMA show in Las Vegas last week so the April 2007 release date (start of the new Champ Car season) may be reached.

I hope sc takes lfs onto the next level new gfx engine, new sounds, want 40+ online pls! hopefully the ability to make approved mods and new tracks (this is what i would like anyway:P) approved mods meaning, you supply tools and let people make content, get licenses etc and sell the material.

Lfs has huge potential but will be caned by iracing, it doesnt deserve this:P

cmon sc:P

Hi Dom,

Thanks for posting here. You name a few good points. When the first public demo for LFS was released it had features which were not seen in any other sim: Great netcode, AI that learns by training, finally a sim not using canned physics. Of course it was a first public demo, version 0.04, but if those features were just a sign of things to come...

Looking back, the first release was the best. Maybe someone can help me here, but I can't think of much features added after version 0.04 in which LFS surpasses the other sims in the market. That's exactly what I think Kid and Vykos mean here. It's not about 'when it's done', it more 'what is done'.

For the price I paid for LFS, I sure think it's worth every penny. I think Scawen did a great job programming it. However, as a sim racer for over 8 years, I want to see much more hardcore sim stuff put in. LFS fan base comes from a diverse background. Some have been sim racers for a long time, others came from other games and LFS made them buy a wheel.

I think that's the difference between the opinions here. The Sim racers saw the potential, joined LFS hoping it would materialise. LFS came a long way, but I don't dare to say it cutting-edge. the few features that were are now no longer that, and no new features could ever get close. And that was what I hoped for when I started it.

This does not mean that Scawen must change whatever he does. It's his sim and it's a good one. If he's happy, that's great. I'm happy he took the challenge to create this. It's just, the racers with a sim racing background need one new sim that really beats LFS as a hardcore sim. I'd pay a lot more for that sim than I did for LFS.

Hi,

I've admin access on multiple servers, some are hosted by my team, others on a dedicated server by friends. I'll answer the question for all of them.

Part 1

1) Have you developed a remote configuration utility for LFS?
no

2) List any remote configuration utilities for LFS that you actively use.
BrowseForSpeed and a userpanel made by our hoster

3) List any other remote configuration utilities for LFS, that you currently know of.
BrowseForSpeed, Dedi2GUI (never used that one though)

Part 2

4) Would you be interested in using a web user interface to remotely configure an LFS server?
Yes, if it makes adminning easier over the current options.

5a) Do you regularly host an LFS server?
Yes

The rest of Part 2 is directed at current hosters. If your answer to 5a was NO, please skip the rest of Part 2.

5b) If yes, do you use a hosting service or your own computer for hosting?
Hosting service, and on a dedicated computer from a friend

6a) If you use a hosting service, list any scripting and database technologies they support.
PHP, no database access.

6b) If you do NOT use a hosting service, list any scripting and database technologies you currently use on your
computer.
PHP, MySQL

On a scale from 1 - 5 where 1 is the least and 5 is the most useful, how useful would it be for you to be able to

7a) save a configuration to file on a script server (which is not your LFS server)?
2
7b) an LFS server?
5

8a) view a configuration file on a script server (which is not your LFS server?
2
8b) an LFS server?
5

9) store and retrieve configurations, or templates of ~, to/from a database?
2
10) apply a configuration "directly" (i.e. without making a file for it) to an online server?
4

Part 3

11) If there was any information about an online server you would like to know before changing its configuration,
what would it be (complete configuration information is not possible to obtain)?
As much as possible. I'm a bit bugged that at the moment, nowhere I can see how certain settings are on the server (i.e. maxcars).

12) Any other relevant comments, suggestions, ideas or critique?
On the gamepanel of the hosting service, I can stop and start the server. It would be nice to have such a function on the servers I run at my friend's server.

OWRL test race
Krutch
S2 licensed
In the OWRL we had a race with the FO8 @ FE Black as part of S2 Season 5. It was a great event, even though I don't really like the chicane there. It's more like flying than racing. Otherwise it's a great track for which you need a very good rythm. And when you get into that, and get into a side-by-side fight as I did with Zockmachine, then you've a great race.

Next saturday we'll race on Aston Historic. There are a few servers online with the combo. Div A is only for pre-qualified drivers, new drivers have to start with the FOX. But I will organize a test event this thursday which is free to join. I'll post the details tomorrow.

One more thing: Even though next season we'll only have BF1 in Div A and FOX in Div B, I'm sure the FO8 will be back in the OWRL next year.

Ramon 'FiredUp' Blauwhoff has won the FWD GTR Cup in NL.LFS.3, the LFS championship for Dutch-speaking LFS players! Congrats Ramon!

Final Standings FWD GTR Cup

The championship, powered by Simracing.NL and LiveForSpeed.nl, now goes into it's second stage, where the GTR's will be put to the test.

There's more text, but it's only in Dutch:

Quote :Eerste helft NL.LFS.3 prooi voor Ramon 'On Fire' Blauwhoff

"Daar gaat mijn kampioenschap."

LFS:FM will cover Div A in the OWRL, the FO8 division. We already had one race in our season. You can find the current standings here

Tonight's race is at South City Town rev, 70 laps. The race will start at approx 19:20 BST, before that we have qualifying.

Quote from Calum :To be honest I think IF it ever happened , and a GP2 Championship for LFS was started , I believe the drivers who enter may find it different and better than other leagues , and the close racing would perhaps entice / encourage them to come back and race again , and make more of an effort to turn up and want to fight for points.

I have been looking up some challenging circuits and been trying a few laps round each , the FO8 truly is an unbelievably great car , the racing seems so close , especially if you get the veiw correct.

I can dream lol.

Calum

Dream on indeed!

We race the FO8 in the OWRL, but the only way to get there is by driving in our FOX-division first, or by winning the qualification races before some of the season. So the drivers that make it to the FO8 will have experience and must have hang around for at least 4 races. Still, we see the points that Josh puts up happening in our FO8-Division.

a 24h race usually requires a bit more planning than ½ a month. Think about what you are going to when someone has a disconnect or the server crashes. How are you going to keep the current standings right?

And a 24h will cost you as a driver almost a full weekend, so drivers need some preparance time.

Personally, I really love enduracing, but please not with the MRT. It's fun for sprint races and races which are a bit longer, but I'd move to a bigger car for any endurance race. Maybe other people think different, but to be honest I don't expect many people to be interested.

NL.LFS.3 - A league for all Dutch LFS'ers

The dutch league will start it's 3rd season and is looking for drivers who like to join. As it's only open to dutch speaking drivers I'll continue in Dutch:

AWD/RWD GTR cup

I like the idea of driving the XRR, tried to find a teammate for that in LFS GT but most people preferred the FZR. I expect it will be difficult to find a team mate for this one.

You can do 1 hour per stint easily with the xrr, so that makes it planning a bit hard (one driver has to 2 hours, the other one 1). 4 hours would be better (and that could at least be called endurance, I've done plenty of 6h races with 2 drivers).

If the race goes on, I'll try to find a teammate for this.

I saw it was already mentioned, but I'd like to give a bit more details

For any of you wishing to race the FO8 in a league, visit owrl.de. Next saturday, 20:00 CEST we'll race at Kyoto GP Long. Together with the next pre-season race, 5 spots in div A are to be earned for S2 Season 5, which will be using the FO8, starting in September. More info on that later this week.

Last Weekend ChampCar announced the new chassis they'll use from next year onwards, I would love to see that car in LFS:
http://www.champcarworldseries.com/News/Article.asp?ID=10649

The big plus this car has on the current F1 is no traction control, the push to pass (which would be great for league races, and maybe pickup races as well if you control it correctly) and the aero - it's been designed to give a minimum of disruptive air behind the car, so close racing will be better possible.

ChampCar runs only 1 oval this year (Milwaukee, 1 mile, drivers have to use their brakes there) and very probably none next year.

exactly. If they really wanted it, we had this done by long now.

Of course LFS doesn't get the same ammount of attention as the other sims due to publishers and stuff. That's part of the strategy of the LFS devs.

However, instead of only pointing to the mags, websites and whoever is helping in the sim racing community, maybe the LFS community should look at itself. It has seperated itself from the sim racing community. The split from RSC is only a small part in this. The attitude of (some people in) the LFS community doesn't help either. i.e., the authors of AutoSimSport made a post here asking for someone who would like to write articlesfor LFS. They got a lot of replies, but not from people who stepped up to promote LFS.

The first step to improve this is to embed the LFS community into the simracing community. Topics like this only increase the gap...

Quote :Basically, it is because FILSCA (because they say they need some stupid script to upload replays) need to extract their heads from somewhere half way down the body and towards the back.

true. We had talks between the OWRL and FILSCA back in 2005 and that was the problem. They told me they were working on it, apparently not. If they only had asked if we could find someone maybe we would have found a programmer willingy to write this.

The sim racing community is a) not big enough and b) too much divided to really get it to the pro level. And compared to community's like CS or WoW, we already have a real life counterpart to compare ourselves to (real racing). If I really want to be a pro driver, I'd go drive in real life and not in LFS. You can't do that with a gun in your hand unless somethings really wrong in your head :pillepall

For most leagues, some kind of sponsorship is needed to keep things running, unless the admin likes to throw around with money. I'm not going to say names, but without our sponsors we wouldn't have decent servers or the support we get from our team in the OWRL.

To get some broadcast coverage is just a way to get more attention to your league. It's a good strategy in trying to attract drivers, but I don't see how it reaches many people outside of the sim racing community and therefore how it could make LFS more pro.

I know it's not a bug in LFS Stats, but it is in LFS.

It can post the right results on the screen after the race, so why wouldn't it be able to send the right result to LFS-World and whatever program used to read the result?
Unknown finisher bug
Krutch
S2 licensed
Even though this was reported way before Patch S, this hasn't been fixed.

When a driver finishes the race one or more laps down and he exits the race (spectate, pit or leave servers) before the last driver crosses the line, an error message appears on the server: 'unknown finisher'.

The results the participant get on the server are correct. However, if you look at LFS World or run LFS Stats, the position of the driver is not or wrongly recorded.

An example on LFSW. For the driver who happens to be the unknown finisher, this race wasn't saved to LFS World at all.

The thing for a league admin is, if you see it on the server you can make a screenshot of the result and easily edit the results. However it is easy to miss it and then you have to watch the full replay to get to the results in the end. Therefore, I hope this will be taken care of once and for all.
