Been playing a lot of the vehicle maps, using my old Microsoft Sidewinder 2 Joystick.

Getting pretty good at flying the choppers and slowly improving my jet skills haha..

What weapons do you all use? I can't seem to find one I like.. Using Engineer with the PP2000.

Quote from stan.distortion :Power supply is the likely, lots of other things could be causing it too though. Processor heatsink blocked up is a common one, as is failing ram. There should be something in system logs, if not there should be logging software to see the reason for the shutdowns.

Not trying to tell you where to shop but PC world is on a lot of folks blacklist after they refused warranty on an ASUS laptop with a broken hinge a few years ago. They refused because the owner had installed a different operating system. ASUS where exchanging the model even outside warranty because it was a known problem and wrote to the owner saying it would be honoured but PC world still refused. Sorry for going off topic.

EDIT It might be worth running memtest to check for RAM errors.
http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Yeah I only bought it from PC World as I needed a PSU quickly and it was a reasonable price for a decent looking PSU.

I'll give that RAM test ago though.

Quote from bmwe30m3 :May also be the Graphics card overheating, maybe not enough room between the 2 of them, if you put them in SLI.

I don't think they are overheating as they only reach 65 degrees while playing, the fans don't even go to 100%.

They are quite close but I don't think it's the problem.

Thanks though guys.

Edit - Done the Memtest, no errors.

Just bought a OCZ 750W PSU, so will change it over and see if I get any more crashes.

Well as expected my crappy PC world PSU decided to start failing..

My pc shut off randomly while playing BF3, I thought I accidently hit the power button so I booted it up into BIOS and checked the voltages. They looked ok so I went and played again, then it shut off again so I believe it's the power supply?

Looking on ebuyer there's a 750w Corsair which is £63, cheapest I've seen so far, ill keep looking though..

Am I right in thinking it is the Power Supply?

They all look really good, makes me want to buy Forza 4 (if only I had a Fanatec wheel)

As I am a :riceboy:

Can I see that EK9 in other angles?

Also in colours close to these?

I only get around 30+ FPS at 1680x1050 (using a different monitor, usually 1920x1200)(Also seems to run faster at a higher resolution)

I wouldn't say it's enjoyable to play at 30FPS though..

High Textures, rest Medium (Automatic Settings)

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :I went from an E8400 to a QX9650, I found a really good deal on ebay and swiped it for cheap. Same clock speed, but twice as many cores, and an unlocked multiplier And my performance has increased. Both the CPU and the RAM scores are a lot higher in the windows experience index than they were before, and it's just better in every way. Looking back now, the E8400 is crap. I definitely think you should be using the Q6600 (if you already have it), but also keep an eye on ebay for good deals. I got my QX9650 for $150 like 2 years ago...no idea why it was so cheap but it works like a charm.

Ah right, well atm my E8400 is running at 4.3Ghz

The Q6600 is the B3 revision which I thought isn't good at overclocking, I can still try it but not sure if it's really gonna make the game run better.

I'll keep an eye out on eBay for a Q9550 or higher though.

Thanks for adding me

My FPS has gone really crappy for some reason, was running at 30-80FPS

Not it's around 25FPS everywhere

Got it all installed, runs surprisingly well if I'm honest.

With Auto settings I'm running,

High Textures, everything else Medium @ 1920x1200 and averaging 40FPS, it does drop to 25FPS in some places which is a bit laggy but overall it's playable.

Although I do want it to run at least 30-40FPS minimum.

Won't be changing to the Q6600 as it is the B3 revision which I believe is rubbish at OC?

Looks like I will be updating my BIOS and going for 4.25Ghz to see if it will help at all.

Downloading it now, 14 GB to go
Which CPU? and a Question

Hi all, another thread

Currently I have a Intel E8400 @ 3.8ghz, can't really get it any higher than that, had it at 4.25ghz but after a hour or so it crashes (can't give the CPU any more voltage - 1.3v)

As most games now are utilizing four cores I'm looking to swap it for a Q6600, which conveniently I have available for free.

Not sure if it is a Q6600 G0 or B3, will check though. (if it isn't a G0 I won't be swapping)

At the moment in most games my two GTX 260's usages are around 40-80% depending on what is happening, would this be poor SLI scaling or bottlenecking?

If I drop all the settings in a game the usage also drops.

If it's my CPU bottlenecking? would changing it for a Q6600 overclocked to say 3.2ghz be better? (I know I can test it myself but it means swapping over the CPU's more than once lol)

One last thing, I am going to update my motherboards bios as according to some reviews for some reason it helps with over clocking.

Thanks for any replies.

Quote from -NightFly- :Not sure if i understood your question correctly, but...If you purchase a russian key and go and enter it on Origin, it starts to download a russian version of bf, no matter what version of origin you have. If your not really tight on money you might wanna go with the true copy.

Yeah you got it right, just wondered if I could use my brothers download instead of having to download 14GB's again lol.. (he has the full English copy)

Looks like I'l be spending £25 soon then

Edit - So do you guys think I should swap my E8400 @ 3.8Ghz for a Q6600 (not sure if it's G0 Stepping, also I rekcon I could only get it to around 3.2Ghz, but surely that will perform better on recent games which recommened quads??)

Although I have seen a benchmark for Battlefield 3 and it showed that a i3 was faster than a i7 :S??

Edit2- Just bought it from Gameagency.co.uk - £25 for the game + dlc, it said it was the English copy too so we'll see lol.. Awaiting an email with my keys

Quote from -NightFly- :I have the same version, real bargain compared to the full price when i got it. Just have to download few extra files and you have a working english game.

Edit* BF3 was 16€ and b2k pack was another 13€ when i bought them. Both were week or two after release.

So if I were to use a English download from Origin, activated the key on my Origin account, would you think it would work straight off?

If not I think I'll buy the true English copy + DLC for £25.

Alright Cheers everyone.

Looking to just buy a key and seen that you can pick one up for £10, but requires an english translation patch as it is downloaded in Russian

Or I can pay £25 and get the key + DLC which should be an English copy..

Quote from Bose321 :That would run great, your CPU will bottleneck you but it should still achieve proper framerate. However, that Quadcore is suggested to get a higher framerate.

You should be fine with 4GB RAM.

Yeah I assumed so, may have to swap over my CPU then.

Quote from -NightFly- :im on a quad with 4gb of ram and 450gts, everything runs smooth @ all maxed out.

Tempted to buy this, just wondering if it will run on my setup??

I can play Bad Company 2 on High @ 1920x1200 no problem, the vietnam expansion is even smoother.

My setup is,

Intel E8400 @ 3.85GHZ
2x Nvidia GTX260 216P SLI
4GB DDR2 800mhz

Would you think it would work well on that setup? I do have a Intel Q6600 if that would be any better (obviously I would try to get the max OC out of it)

I can also add more ram into my machine, only DDR2 though..

Quote from Bose321 :No, the front and side are the intakes. Top and rear are the exhaust/outtake.

That will work fine. I cut a big hole in the side (around the existing mesh hole) where the GPU's are located and put a nice 120MM fan on the inside of the case sucking air in.

I'd say either pick the Coolermaster or the Thermaltake. They're both fine PSU's with a single 12V rail which is preffered for overclocking and/or dual GPU's. XClio too is a good brand, even though it doesn't have a big name in the market. If you want to go modular, pick that one. You basicly can't go wrong on any of these.

Try this one: https://www.overclockers.co.uk ... duct.php?prodid=CA-220-CM

The design of the case you either love or hate. I think it's kinda nice and the performance is great of these cases. They're easy to build with and even greater to quickly change/swap components. If you like the looks of it, you got a hell of a case there.

Thanks a lot Bose

Ok well depends, as If I go for the XClio modular I will need a new case as it has that little box with all the plugs, there is not much space in this Centurion 5 (it could maybe sit at the bottom but then it's kinda blocking the bottom GPU.

Seems which ever will be fine then, would rather get a modular one so I can have less cables hanging around lol..

Case wise I'm stuck between that case you showed, and the Fractal.

It seems the Fractal has one extra fan area at the bottom of the case?

They both have 7 fan areas though, and I like the look of the Fractal more as it looks simple

Quote from bmwe30m3 :XClio is something I personally have never heard of.
On modular PSU's, don't the cables usually go right into the PSU, not a adapter?
I personally would take the Thermaltake one, you will have enough power to last several upgrades, unless you want to get like triple 580 sli or something like that.

Yeah I'm a bit unsure of XClio too, I'l look at some reviews for the Thermaltake though

Still gotta decide on a case, I really like the Fractal Core 3000. Unless someone can show me a better case for near enough the same price?

Edit- can't find any reviews for the Thermaltake..?

Quote from stan.distortion :I'll second that for the PSU, a failure can wipe out every bit of hardware so its worth getting good quality from a reputable brand, they can last you through several upgrades so really its cheap insurance.

Modular cost quite a bit more than the equivalent quality with a rats nest hanging out the back, you can save money here, cable ties are cheap

Yeah I know, my previous PSU was a 600w grey undbranded thing. It failed and started to smell like burning so I cut the power and suprisingly once I changed it nothing was damaged

I'm sure my current PSU is fine, but I want to change it for something better.

Modular or non-modular the prices are similar, £50-60 for a 600-700w one.

Edit- this is my current power supply. Atrix 720w http://www.amazon.co.uk/Atrix- ... ower-Supply/dp/B000O3ADQE

Looks exactly the same as this one, http://www.scan.co.uk/products ... ossfire-quiet-fan-atx-v22
