Quote from Electrik Kar :The article gives the impression that the enquiry will be made by someone associated with the university? That doesn't seem right to me.

yeah, not a hint of bias there

Quote from Electrik Kar :BBC - Enquiry into stolen climate emails

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8383713.stm

Quote :But Professor Sir John Houghton, chair of the IPCC's first science panel, said he would not support an inquiry as many of those demanding one were biased.

so, those biased towards climate change don't want anyone who may hold a different opinion being involved....

TVE did say he was going to resurrect it and in light of recent events I'm trying to persuade Jon and TVE to work together so season 2 of the DD league has a place to race

darling, I'm sure many people have called you far worse things when you've banned them for no reason

that's Sponge/Profike all over though, has always been a trigger-happy control freak. I've been kicked/banned off there before for just choosing to disagree with what one of those two names said

****ing knew it Sponge/Profike/whatever your name is. Ban the only DECENT admin, sure, that'll entice people to return won't it. And you can stop all the bullplop about how killer sponge and profike are 2 different people as well

TVE's server was way better anyway as TVE actually respected people when they were playing. Bring back [noobs]!

Quote from xaotik :Or to use their superior nuclear energy to power enormous fans pointed in your direction.

they would do something like that to spite us, yes

With regards to sea-level increases, it's yet another arm of the man-made global warming lobby that has been severely overstated. Simple fact is there will be no major sea level rises, period. We in the UK should be more worried about the rate at which the south of the country is sinking into the Earth's crust, which, coincidentally over a century comes to almost exactly the lower estimate of how high sea levels could rise

Quote from boothy :Well given they have to be backed up by conventional power they're mostly pointless! :smash:

and don't forget France is busy developing new nuclear reactors which is exactly what we should be doing...all this fannying about with wind turbines will leave us hopelessly underpowered when coal, gas and that lot eventually run dry and we will be left grovelling to the French for a cup of electricity.

Quote from Electrik Kar :

I read something the other day where the researchers stated that a warming planet will make us all obese because we'll be eating more icecreams! This is how silly this is all getting. No-one's being funded to see what beneficial things may happen in a warming climate.

Agreed it's just getting laughable now. We only ever hear the bad things because that is what sells papers, this year apparently is the 5th hottest on record (?!?) yet we wouldn't hear anything about it if it turned out not to be.

If the planet does warm up, in the UK heat-related deaths will increase by 2000 but cold-related deaths will decrease by something like 12000.

Quote from wien :Fair enough. These threads just leave me all sarcastic and spiteful.

While water vapour is indeed a very strong greenhouse gas it also returns to the earth as rain within about a week (on average) of being released. CO2 needs between 50 - 200 years to do the same round trip. The vapour consentration of the air is also almost exclusively dependent on the temperature. Water vapour does not cause warming in itself, it's concentration just follows along as the temperature changes.

haha I know that feeling too well in this thread already. Cheers for clearing that question up, appreciated.

Quote from xaotik :What is this political goal? Where I come from a political goal is usually "get us re-elected" or the longer version "get our cronies rich and happy so we can get re-elected". What is theirs?

get us and our cronies rich sounds about right...the money involved is staggering.

See, that doesn't cut it for an industry to be created. An industry has to have a product that is sold and if it is to survive it has to be bought. Therefore the phrase "climatology industry" has to hide that last bit somewhere. Is someone really profiting, economically, from all this? Is that someone profiting part of a political party or supporting one? Then you have a political goal and something you can refer to as industry as well.

hey, don't shoot the messenger, I'm just using a commonplace term

Quote from wien :Why don't you do a little research before throwing these Glen Becksque questions up into the air?

In case you were wondering, I was asking whether it was the case. I wasn't stating anything, I wanted someone to reply sensibly to the question posed, whether it is true that cars that produce only water vapour could cause more damage...The question just popped into my head so I didn't have the opportunity to do any sort of research into it

my not even bothering to read those threads caused by the extreme stupidity displayed by anyone supporting such theories and my refusing to acknowledge such stupidity even exists doesnt diminish the only slightly less loony conspiracy theories youve been supporting over the years

So by not even bothering to read the 9/11 thread you make the assumption that Sam is some loony conspiracy theorist?

Quote from xaotik :Surely you have to acknowledge the fact that there are many organizations out there that are setup either by a government or a government's department. That doesn't necessarily mean at all times that they are pursuing a political goal.

Oh of course, but this is a case of one that does have a political goal.

Quote :
How does the UK climatology industry work and to what does it aim at? What is it that they are manufacturing (either tangible or intangible) that is worth all this?

At the moment, the main manufacturing output is constant propaganda. I know it doesn't sound an exceptionally brilliant answer but that is what it is. The endless striving for windfarms (and resulting greenwash) even in places where their efficiency is absolutely awful is increasing as the alarmists attempt to cover up this scandal by publishing even more reports, however laughable, that it is indeed happening and we are all going to die unless we kill all the animals, install a million wind farms and revert back to living in caves.

An interesting point, it is widely known that water vapour does more harm than CO2...so, all these hybrid cars that produce only water vapour are presumably doing much more damage to the environment? Or have I missed something?
