Quote from ORION :The devs dont allow modding because it sucks.

We don't need a huge amout of crap models in LFS, like there is in rFactor.
In a couple of years it might be possible to create custom content for LFS, with the required online systems to allow only good stuff of course.

Quote from filur :A demo 'license' could be completely automated and transparent, generated from a hardware ID upon connecting to the master server. Tie the ID to a "guest19528" username and you've got proper bans in demo. It wouldn't really be necessary to go any further, an lfs.net/forum account could still be separate, guest usernames which havent been used in a week could just be deleted.

Quote from AndroidXP :...and it doesn't have a very "professional" look to it...

why the hell u expect us we want it "professional"??!

we love it the way it is, doubleclick lfs, multiplayer ,server, go...

so much peopz love the way it is, and no one need a silly "professional" (overloaded) look like f.ex. rF has.

when some1 calls anybody motherf.... or stuff like that thats a kick...
for shit or staff like that nothing.. the "light" words r ok but yea there alot of stuff that makes me wanting that option.

what means a silly kick from a server, he re-enteres and flooding with rekcufrehtom (<-- read that way) again, best way would be a filter like here in forum that makes instead of rekcufrehtom that ***********!

he can curse what he want but for us it will be just a mystery what he wants to tell us
car sounds, and how to improve them

hi i was thinking quite often about the sounds in lfs...

esp. the bf1 in lfs sounds "informative" but not really chilling my neck..

so i got sum improves for the sounds and the soundscape:

+ add doppler fx or stereo spread to make it sound fuller

+ calculate not only the cylinders in engine, calc also the environment scene, means echo+reverb+reflections in engine additional in the chassis

+ add different eq's for engine sound and muffler

+ fit the volumes to the rpm, means low rpm soft-medium grumble sound and 6000rpm and above, let the engine/muffler SCREAM

+ add more detailed area sounding for track/replay cameras views, means:
car coming, u see the front -> more reverb, few details, lowpass-eq
car is there -> no reverb (without in a tunnel), lots of details, full spectrum
car leaves, u see rear -> grumble, plops (muffler way), lowpass-eq, more bassy (mufflerstuff)

+ add chassisnoizes, the cars are no bentleys for half million euro, they have to rattle, maybe that part u use sampled sounds

+ i guess your calculated sounds are mono, so maybe calculate sound A (left) and sound B with very lil differences in phase, tune/freq so it gets a very nice fullwide effect

anyway the carsounds are good, they just need sum tweaks to get authenticity!!!

Quote from Jamexing :Actually, physics calculations depend on the exact mathematical models LFS employs, which most of us here don't know. Anyway, multithread is particaularly good for parrallel processing. If its some algorithm that requires massively fast serial processing, they're nothing special.

Actually, all new games on the market are heavily dependant on parralel processing to perform anyway. That's why we need to change those expensive graphics card all so often. If a single core was sufficient, we'll need no 2nd CPU to process graphics.

Point is, LFS will benefit grealy from proper multi-core support, since newer and faster CPUs will all be multicore as the limits of single core tech are already being reached.

lol u think the limit is reached? i think if an amd processor generation next (together with other parts of the pc) needs up to 900W of stream?!... then i think the limit isnt reached yet, just look to single cores of intel (i personally use amd so no need to say i do commercials for intel lol) especially the mobile cpu just need a percentage of Watt amd's "big blocks" needs.

anyway a dual (low watt) cpu would be probably better than a single core. but who cares, lfs runs already ass fast on my "slugspeed"-system even with maximum aa and af at 2048x768 resolution (dualmonitors)...

Quote from farcar :Personally, the differences in pace within classes doesn't bother me that much. Differences in driver skill are usually a more important factor in determining a race result.

Some of the more skilled drivers (not me) will often opt for the weaker car in a class to challenge themselves.

On the other hand, if you're in a situation where all other drivers are of exactly the same skill, yeah it's a minor annoyance, but just all race the same cars if it bothers you that much.

Quote from XCNuse :btw.. never unlock LFS until you are 100% positive that everything is working; no need to unlock everytime it gets unlocked from some software update

i mean.. its not like you have to unlock LFS everytime some installation or something unlocks it.. not until you are sure that it works anyway; that goes for all programs really

yeah gonna do that in future... stupid sdk
damn windows... damn unlocking...

damn windows... i had to reinstall my xp couz of sum weird crashes after the direct x sdk install, so i dit it.

all was workin fine, so i unlocked lfs.

damn fookin windows crashed again...

reinstall needed, unlocking again...

again crash :/ i know why there is a limit of 2 unlocks per month, but is there a chance to set that to 4 unlocks?

in my case that unlocks were unlucks lol and now i cant play s2 until 1st of september, that sux massive

no chance to unlock it now? i dont wanna wait few days...

Quote from biggie :With all due respect and while I appreciate your thoughts on this, but the "start from pits" method would make hotlapping really unattractive.
Thinking of Aston GP and the UF1, you'd have to cruise 4-5 minutes first before your lap starts. And then imagine doing a small mistake in T1... not exactly motivating.
While I agree that LFS should be made the most realistic game possible, I don't see what would be gained from starting from the pits in hotlapping mode. I can see everyone viewing the replay fast forwarding the first lap to eventually catch the start of the second lap. Nobody wants to see that boring obligatory tire warming lap! And it really bloats the replay files.
Before implementing this method, you should also think about if this will actually add something positive to the game. Does this encourage competition? Does it ultimately improve immersion? Does this spoil some peoples' fun?

I'm clearly speaking for a minority here. Many people will surely smile at this posting, because they don't have much appreciation for those chasing the clock and not fighting it out head to head with others...
Being one of the few dedicated hotlappers (who do prefer this over online racing), I can see this making me lose interest in LFS. I, for one, do not want to spend my time doing pointless warmup laps, I want to fight the clock and waste as little time as possible with it
I may also add, hotlapping as such is not really realistic, there's hardly any such thing in reality. Maybe the qualifying, but it has a very limited time frame and there's also the race strategy involved in it.

Of course this is your game, your product, you can do whatever you want with it, but I don't really see how adding that "start from pits" method would add to the game.
Please consider my words and think of the minority group in LFS who really play LFS mostly for the hotlapping mode.

+1

but: lets do that idea for qualifying, 1 warumuplap for qualifying would be realistic.
hotlapping has nuttin 2 do with REAL racing. HOTLapping its just the chase to a perfect lap and NOT a qualificationlap. i totally agree with biggie that 1 warmuplap would really destroy the fun in hotlapping couz u waste lot of time...

my personal feeling is that the gras in lfs is more like real ice than real gras but not that bad, it just could get a physics upgrade some day, for a more real gras,... make it more real

Quote from XCNuse :they do both, it will create a longer pocket of air allowing them to move quicker and get away, and you will see people actually bumping (my dad did once he said when he was somewhere i dont remember where, at night he bumped some friend of his in an old 240z he had with the lights turned off at night)

so finally u are sure now your dad isnt a mole

Quote from Becky Rose :As a general racing principle i'm vehemently opposed to this, I dont want to log on to public servers and find I have a forced setup - my driving style (like many here) is very unique to me and I just do not get on with the suspension and steering settings some of you use (and vice versa).

There are times when the ability to do this would be useful, such as a pseudo kart league, but to be honest i'd rather wait for a go kart car in the game which Scawen did at one time express interest in after getting chasis flex into the game.

I can't think of many other uses for a forced set up, but I can think of lots of people setting up public servers where it is forced, and that thought is giving me nightmares.

In real life there are a few setup parameters that some championships do control such as fixed gearing and fixed tyre brand/compounds etc. But there is no possible control over tyre pressures, suspension geometry and steering configuration (some single car leagues do have limited suspension adjustment but this is based upon the design and limitations built into the car rather than specific regulations).

maybe a lite version of my thougts as an option for servers...

i mean if u race f.ex. bl with race s in xfg u will never get a 1:33 time no matter how skilled you are, but if u set sum fixed components in setup and just let the racer setup personal steering, skin and tyres f.ex i guess it wont be that bad esp in kart series...
setup controller for special races/leagues

heya i wish there is a setupcontroller or the option for the server to set a setup f.ex. RACE_S as standard for all cars on the server, that would be great for special leagues f.ex. formula cup where all race with the equal cars...

so here really only best driving decides. best to handle maybe a option to set a setup as standard but the server also looks if the setup is the right setup (suspension~, gear~, ...control) that everybody drives the exact same car

what you think bout thisss==???

Quote from samyip :MoonForce,

I have done this one with sand/dust clouds. Unfortunately, it doesn't show the skin very well. I can render it in higher resolution if you like it. (or if you are still around)

I can also render the RB4 for you without any sand/dust.

(I have put window trims around the windscreen, I think RB4 is the car that the LFS producer's least interested in. They didn't even give it windscreen wippers)

thanx great shit man,... yeah a 1024x768 would be enuff
could u also do a 2nd pic just like the 1st just with a atmosphere-fog with a gradient-map to simulate a sandstorm in the back?
ill attach sum example ... btw 3rd thing would be (omg dont be bad with me haha) to render a short mpeg of standing rb4 in sandstorm (like attached max file) ? would be nice

Quote from cpachmann :What i don't understand, when people say, that they are very happy with the graphical aspect of the game and then, on the other hand, the first thing they do is downloading some mods of better textures and what so ever to improve that and to have more a realistic image when playing...its a litle bit contradictorry, isn't it?

i support his idea of a tarmac track in bl, i anyway resized the honey textures to original lfs size, just enjoying other surface

Quote from smashpiranha :OpenGL would be far more use than DX10. Opening the game up to Linux and Mac users would be better for the game. What exactly will DX10 do to make LFS look better? Probably nothing that can't already be done in DX8 or 9.

u saved me 1 edit of my post thx...
