Why thank you very much, Mr. Raemisch.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the "Improvements" section. It would add an entirely new element to LFS and league racing.

I had a feeling that was the case but wanted to make sure; it would make for a more interesting league format.
LFS Records - League Racing
Motordirex

Everytime we load LFS and race in multi, single or just hotlapping, do the records of what happened get recorded?

The reason I ask is that I run in the XR Challenge cup with SCORE. 9/10 times I dont get to turn any laps besides the race practice and qualifying sessions for each round, which Im quite content with.

Not that Im making excuses for my not doing so well in the league, but I was thinking of a league that if LFS keeps track of every time you do any laps in any mode, the league restricts any extra practice time besides those designated by the league. Any other practice that racer is making will result in a penalty on the race start grid - dead last.

I dont know about F1, havent followed it in years, but in MotoGP all the teams travel to the same track to test. With that in mind, Id like to see an LFS league like the above if there already isnt one using that format.

Just an idea.

NOTE: yes, this would take away from those who race LFS religiously, this is for those that dont but love to race when they can and with a more real world format.
Thrustmaster Wheel Issues
Motordirex

So I got a Thrustmaster wheel with force feedback, the Ferrari edition. I set the wheel to how I want it with the software and in LFS itself.

I like the turning radius to be tight with very little dead zone. if I rotate the wheel to much in either direction the setting changes and the turning radius becomes loose. I have to then turn the wheel off and on to get it to reset.

Any suggestions?

The 90's produced some of the most beautiful racing machines on the planet, and in my opinion, some of the best racing we will ever see.

+1 to the sparks, and +2 to the vid though it some-what depressed me knowing those days are long gone. haha

This Week In Sim Racing - awesome idea...but I would change the title song; sounds like music from Battlefield 2142.

The announcer is cute too and yes, she may pronounce names incorrectly but in all fairness she's probably never heard alot of them...SEAT: (say-at), not "seet".

And yes, wheres the STCC coverage!?

If anyone is looking to get articles written, I write race reports for a local motorcycle racing club: article one and article two. Ive written many more that have been published in news papers, but I am the web master/designer of their website and hadnt put any old ones up. Email me at info at mediadirex.com if anyones interested.

Great work SRT!

Quote from Joe Martinez :We are looking to add a LFS series at CRO .. we have ran several rFactor road racing series in the past under the AASCRA Banner. The question is how many North American racers would be interested in a Monday Night Series with GT cars using LFS.
If we can get 20 or so we will go forward.

What will be the format?

There is a good pick of GT car servers and leagues at the moment. Id like to see a TBO league run in North America to be honest...but would be interested eitherway.

Quote from DarkTimes :The only thing better than being rear-ended is getting hit when you're driving down a straight in a straight line.

Or, when you get a run on someone and they know your going to pass. So they move into your line, their rear quarter panel connects with your front bumper, they spin and freak out at you...because you were driving straight!

Quote from Origamiboy :True enough. I think if it is ever going to work the devs must make the company involved aware that they will not implent anything that would compromise the integrity of the sim.

Good in theory, but it never ends up like that. A company could easily flash their money around, more then enough for the devs to say "Yes sir, no sir...right away sir".

At first, a simple one year contract saying just that, the devs have complete control. After that one year the company decides things arent going how they would like, in comes that suitcase full of money to make the game their way...you know, but they are the "experts".

LFS should stay "independant" unless a company just wants to invest in its future development, not morph it into something else.

I know if Im not on the pace on any track, I'll spectate and watch the lead cars in-car to see what they are doing...the speedo tells me I should be going "X" mph through whatever turns. I must say it does help as a quick reference driving aid for us slow pokes. More of a reason to get rid of it I spose.

Great broadcast as usual. Big thanks to Becky for commentating that race all on her own...where was Tristan?

Some of the things discussed during the broadcast left me feeling excited about LFS again and the STCC series...and listening to Becky and watching the racing action makes me pray for motorcycles and a similar championship to the STCC in LFS(I wont let the idea die...LFS-GP).

Cant wait for round 10!

Best think you can do is make a skin like Jakg did saying "Bah, I'm a skin Stealer" all over it and uploads it under the same name as your stolen skin. Then just upload your skin under a different name.

HAHAHA...thats brilliant and totatly f%^king funny!

Quote from danowat :Issue one:

Are you SURE the pedals are analog?, what axis are the pedals/brakes reported in the windows controller panel?

Issue two:

Couple of things, one, I assume you don't have any PC drivers for this wheel, and windows sees it as a generic HID controller?, two, vibration IS NOT force feedback, I doubt LFS would be able to provide "vibration" only proper force feedback, I used to use a dual shock pad thingy, and I could never get any vibration from that.

Lastly, this should be in tech support

Issue One con't: on the wheel you can switch from digital to dual analog. In the control panel the Smartjoy shows up as the controller and the brake and throttle are buttons 3 and 4. The one axis moves for the steering, but the second axis doesnt move at all. Its my hunch now after looking at it that because the USB was designed to allow PS2 controllers to be used with a PC, its mapped out exactly like a PS2 controller; both axes are functional in control panel. Im just guessing here of course.

Issue Two con't: Yes, sorry...the vibration does work with the USB and the PS2 controller in LFS, but nothing from the wheel. The wheel does vibrate on the console as expected. I looked for drivers but the only Mad catz ones are the their PC based controllers. I didnt bother to try but I could I spose...shouldnt hurt.

Tech support section...prolly right...maybe someone will move the thread when they see it.

Cheers.
Wheel Issue
Motordirex
S3 licensed
I have a rather old setup. Its a Mad Catz MC2 Universal wheel with peddles that I run through a Smartjoy Plus USB adaptor.

Issue One
For the brake and throttle I have to use the "buttons" setting, cant seem to get any axes to work correctly. If I set the throttle to axis option 2 it runs but at full throttle or no throttle at all...same with the braking using option 3.

Also, the sterring axis is set to "RZ", not X or Y.

I know if I got the throttle working correctly Id definately be able to improve my speed. Right now my gas peddle is an on/off switch.

Issue Two
My wheel DOES have force feedback when its hooked to the PS2 ala Gran Turismo. Using the Smartjoy USB with the drivers installed theres not FF in LFS. I plugged a PS2 controller to the Smartjoy and the controller vibrated like it should in LFS. So the Smartjoy drivers are doing what they are supposed to be doing, just not with my wheel.

Any suggestions and solutions to either of these two problems would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

buggies, bikes, atvs, trucks

I think he meant individually. haha

That game though cheese to the sim racer, is pretty good graphics wise. The first time I played it on the PS3 the graphics and physics were such that I was getting dizzy using the in car view.

I agree with Hammerdown that most of the improvement suggestions on this forum being lame. Though I dont agree that bikes are juvenile and a waste of the physics engine...and I dont think anyone else into bikes would agree with you either. Motorcycles and motorcycle racing has a more loyal fan base then car racing...why, cuz everyone drives cars, bikers are a rare breed.

Quote from Skyline41691 :hey guys, i am new to the forums but i have been playing lfs for about 4 years. and i was thiinking about how cool it would be to have street bikes and racing bikes in the game. And also trucks/suvs in off road trails and races. and for the trucks, you can add some nice open dirt tracks with baja style jumps and stuff.

id pay extra for that

what do you guys think?

You and me both for motorcycles. The trucks would be neat for a change of pace, plus Id love to thrash the hell out of an Escalade in the bush...with all the bling trimmings.

The bikes thing has been suggested before a few times, and there is a small demand, but not enough for the developers to build it as far as we know. There was talk about S3 having bikes, but its pretty much been put to rest at this point; they want to but cant get the physics right according to an email I received from one of the devs.

On a side note, I hooked my Gemini motorcycle controller up with LFS, drove the Formula XR with a narrow FOV so all I saw was road, inverted the steering to mimic the counter steering used in motorcycle racing, and it was hard! Took me a few laps top get used to it and you actually find yourself wanting to lean into the corners...its the only way to really use the Gemini with counter steering and not get confused. I loved it!

Quote from bbman :Just a little test: drive your car/bicycle/whatever normally, then do the same, but with an artificially narrowed fov (by sticking pieces of cardboard together, for example)... You know what? You get the same effect...

With a narrower fov, you only see things that are still far away when they move out of it, thus robbing you of every sense of speed...

Maybe turn wheel and hands off? I assume you got a wheel yourself, so you shouldn't need another one, do you?

Turn the wheel and hands OFF in the game...hmm, didnt know I could do that.
FOV Speed
Motordirex
S3 licensed
NOTE: ran a search and came up with nothing.

Why when you zoom closer to the dash with the in-car view, the speed feels dead slow compared to if your view is back further. On the track it doesnt make a difference I know, but in the car it does.

I zoom in as close as I can get so I dont see the hands on the steering wheel, all I want is the dash board in front of me. But doing this makes the car seem so slow, even in the Sauber.

Any suggestions besides a different camera view?

Quote from Cr!t!calDrift :Is very racially derogative.

My use of the term "rice boy" comes from a site that was created donkey's years ago, Bryan's Rice Boy Page:
Who/What Exactly Is a Rice-Boy?

Rice-Boy is a stereotype. The typical Rice-Boy can be identified by his car, or rather what he does to it. Generally, Rice-Boy will start out with a car that was not meant to go fast (typically a Honda Civic), and attempt to "fix it up," usually consisting of aftermarket rims, lowering springs and an aftermarket exhaust system with a large exhaust tip.
Most Rice-Boy cars (or "Rice Rockets") have the usual complement of stickers proudly displaying features that the car might or might not have, most notably, the Honda VTEC sticker from the later model Preludes, and the plaques from the later model Integras. Rice-Boys do not exclusively drive Japanese cars. There are quite a few fake Mustang '5.0's and Camaro Z28's out there, as well as quite a few strange looking Neons.

I didnt see anything racialy motivated in that description. Also check this out: Disclaimer:
The term "Rice-Boy" is meant to be a derogatory term. But not racially derogatory. Some people might say that regardless of what this disclaimer says, it makes Asians look bad. Well, I hate to break it to these people but asians are not the only people on this planet who eat rice. Everyone eats rice. White people eat rice. Black people eat rice. Native Americans? They eat rice. Europeans eat rice!! And, if you open your eyes, you might notice that a whole lot of the rice-boys out there aren't even asian! The "rice" really refers to their cars. It's not about their race, it's about their attitude!

But anyway...Ive also driven an RX7...wasnt anything special to me. Pretty sexy car, but nothing to write home about.
