The funny ting on that combo is that if you get a relatively clean race you can go from 30th position and all the way up to the lead in just seven laps. Because half the grid either pits or crashes.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Making an outside move and holding it is one of the most exhilirating things in auto racing.

I agree. Its one of the most impressive moves you can see quite often imo.
Managing to keep up with the dude on the inside when you're on the outside is impressive.

BUT, it deppends on the corner of course.

I've attached a picture.

The upper left, and bottom left is in the same situation.

Upper left, right after apex, both cars have the same speed.
Bottom left, right after the inside car have pushed the other car off the track (the other car is on its way out)
Upper right. Dosen't need anny explanation really.

Now. Who would say that the inside car in these pictures have the right to push the other car off?

Being two cars heading into the same corner side by side battling it out is like a marriage. Both have to sacrifice something, the outside guy have to sacrifice the apex, and the inside guy have to sacrifice the outside.
Unless the other car just barely overlaps your bumper of course.

Quote from danowat :HELL YES, they need some SERIOUS moderation, well, the mods are just as bad, I suggest just giving them a VERY wide berth.

Well, its not easy to admin two full servers 24/7.

Here you can see what a clean race in LFS looks like. And also what happens when people (ehm...me) push too hard. Know that about half of them were demo players...

Good movie.
The battling between the black and orange car after 1:30 is a good example. To me it seems like many people here think that the black car could, and had the right to push the orange car off the track. In that situation I think the black car did the right ting. Would have been highly unfair if he had pushed the oponent off track.

Quote from Gentlefoot :If you are trying to pass someone around the outside of a bend at the exit and you have not made it fully alongside them then that person is quite within their rights to use all of the track they need for the exit. This is the normal racing line. This is know as a 'squeeze'. A sensible driver who is being squeezed should back off to avoid an accident.

If on the other hand the car trying to pass on the outside at exit gets fully alongside and the driver moves over and makes contact or forces them onto the grass this is known as 'side swiping' and is considered dangerous driving in real world motorsport so you shouldn't do it in LFS either.

That is two situations I agree on.
And of course, it depends on the situation. But the thing is that these people seem to push people off the track no matter if the other car is slightly infront on the exit or is just a bit behind.

And one more thing, you haven't passed anyone until you are infront of them.

Quote from ajp71 :the car on the outside has plenty of right to be there on the corner exit, you have the inside line he has the outside line, you can't take it from him unless you get in front of him so that you can safely pull across.

Well said, spot on and amen to that.

Quote from Alan Dove :these are cases of cutting...entry to the corner...we are talking about exiting a corner....not entry contact

How about this? No crashing, just a guy trying to pass on the outside ... several times. If he succeds? Yes. Should the car on the inside used his "right" and pushed the BMW out of the track so he could have won the race? No.

Watch and enjoy, THIS is racing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nuRgzaJ-q8&

Imo, if a person have to push the other car of the track to gain a position, then the driver is a lousy driver. No matter how fast he/she is.

Ayrton, what you're saying is that Fisichella could have just driven right into Kimi Raikkonen last year at Suzuka (or was it the year before?) because Kimi were on the outside.

Whos to blame here? (at the end)

Quote from ayrton senna 87 :
its ahrd to explain, but imagine lobbing the car up the inside and totally commiting yourself, meaning u WILL run to the outside of the track on the exit, if someone is there then physics means that u will force them off.

The thing is that you in 9 out of 10 situations KNOW that there are someone on the outside. And when you do know that, well, its quite easy to prepare yourself to give some space to the chap on the outside.

Maybe this is normal in karting, but its not in racing with big cars.
Question about inside outside rules.

I just were on the a server where the combo was UFR&XFR @ AS Cadet, the grid were packed. Lots of nasty racing.

Annyway, some of the faster guys there (karters particullary) consistently pushed the cars that were on the outside in the turn out.
Allso me of course, and its not the first time. Now, I enjoy fair racing, but it is NOT fair to push the competitor onto the grass just because you can and then take the win as if you did a huge thing.

I asked them if the rules were so, and some of them answered yes, "because thats how we drive our karts".
Well, I'm pretty pissed about that to be honest. I'm not going to say that ALL karters do this, because they don't, but it seems to me that a huge amount of you guys have this vision of racing.

Have you ever thought that karts can't be compared to any of the cars in LFS? (Maybe except the MRT, but who drives that anyway?)

Honestly, do you do the same when driving the big GTR's, and even the open wheelers?

My question really is this: Do the general person in here think that this is right, that if you are so unlucky to be on the outside you have to expect to be blown off the track?

This really annoys me.

BUG: Can't switch to Graphics options while player is connecting.

Atleast haven't noticed it before, and I've been around since 2003 ;-)

On the other hand, very good patch. Need to buy a new PC so I can see all the cars, lol.

Don't miss it, I don't want it back. It looks UGLY as hell, reminds me of an old opel vectra that runs around here with a wing like that. Ugly, ugly, ugly. The FXO actually is pretty damn nice as it is now.

And i'm glad to see i'm not the only one, I was scared for a bit that I was the one at error in these situations!

In my opinion it depends on the situation and the car class. If you drive the fast cars, GTR's, and the BF1 specially I think its better and safer for both if the backmarker moves over on the straight lift the gass a bit and let the leaders by without slowing them up in the corner.

Specially in public racing I just let people by when I'm blueflagged (mostly when I join a race after its started), but in league racing the few times I've been lapped I have done like you do.

Quote from VTiRoj :I dont think our Kyoto Ring is real, but I have to say, I wouldnt be suprised to see some Japanese track designers asking for permission to use the track in Kyoto for real. Its one of the nicest tracks in LFS IMO. Fern Bay comes close, but Kyoto take the cake (or tofu? I prefer pizza myself but you know ).

Quote from Mike85 :Scawen should tell us what are his plans and a timeframe.

No, have you EVER seen a game released on the date it were supposed to get released? And no, he shouldn't tell us all his plans, he might come to the conclusion that some of them just isn't doable or shouldn't be in the game at all.

Quote from Mike85 :Right now LFS is full of ideas, but they need to be put on a list and prioritised. We need to say what will be in the game and what wont.

I'm sure Scawen allready have a list like that. And no, its not "we" that should say what should be in the game and what won't, thats the developers decition.

Quote from Mike85 :all these InSim and OutSim and downloading skins... Thats not for racing really. We just want features.

uh, that doesn't make sence. The new InSim features makes it possible to control the servers better, and thus making better racing. Just look at the CTRA(STCC) servers.

I THINK the LX8 that is on Scawens HD is just an LX6 with slicks and a bigger engine. In my opinion, slicks on LX cars just isn't right.
