Lack of 'feel' of speed is, unfortunately, normal.
Just check youtube for example - everyone who drives below 200km/h feels like crawling.. it's just way it is.
However, to improve a bit sensation of speed, try setting FOV to 95, or even to 100 (beyond that it's just getting too distorted on 1 screen).
Well, LFS aint going to 'die' that easy.
Also, LFS will never be 'mainstream' game.
Why?
Because it's a simulation.
I've seen some comments about F1 2010 and similar games, how great gfx looks, etc... that is true. They look good.
But, they are arcade type of game.
Now - what do YOU think would happen if F1 21010 was made as simulation?
I can tell you that people who invest money in it wouldn't be too happy.. as people who buy it wouldn't be too happy.
Just face it - there's much bigger market for 'arcade' type of games.
If F1 2010 was simulation, I can tell you they'd have much worse sales, and there'd be thousands of people/kids crying it's too hard, it sucks, etc...
This is also what makes simulations much more long-lasting. People who choose to play this type of games, and in the end - unfortunately market for those is much smaller.
My point with this?
Not much... except we're smaller market, and this also means less options, and slower development.
This also does mean *if* some company as Codemasters/EA or similar *wanted* to make pure sim, they could. But they wont. It's $$$$ what matters.
Sorry, but I really freak out when people start pulling DX things out of their ****.
What does having DX9 mean? Or DX11?
Pacman that is written as 2D game in DX6 od DX11 is same. Same graphics. Same all.
DX doesn't matter much.
It matters when you add some specific eye-candies, but as was proven, DX9 is already *very* powerful. DX10/11 add some specific features, but DX9 as is can already give gorgeous looking games.
Btw, you do realize games that are still released work on WinXP? And WinXP support DX9, *not* DX10/11.
Anyway, thing is - graphics can be updated. I don't find it either as priority, as there's much more important things to do - but fact is graphics which was made 5+ years ago is simply outdated. Check games which were made 5+ years ago and now.
Check power in CPU's, and especially GPU's at that time and now.
But, as said.. at this point I'd just really want come physics update - while LFS for me is best sim, some things still just seem broken and need fix/update.
And let's not forget that new content is needed too. Time does it's toll.
Well, dunno.. it did take me a bit to get properly used, but it's much better in S3D.
Especially with close racing, as it's much easier to notice distance between your car and one close to you.
Just a hint: take it easier... drive slower to drive faster
There's two types of ghosting on LCD's.
One which you mention here - top/bottom ghosting - due to nature how LCD redraws picture and time it takes to do it.
However, second one is real 'ghosting' - when previous frame bleeds into next one. You can notice it even in middle of monitor on high contrast areas (white over black, etc...).
This one is due to LCD 'lazyness' or time it needs to flip one pixel from one state to other. Overdrive helps there, but LCD's aren't there yet to be perfect.
Also, this kind of ghosting is actually noticeable in LFS.
That's also why I suggested that mods can be used in offline mode, and for online mode it must be 'approved' (or whatever you want to call it) by developers.
Imagine scenario: every month (2? 3?) best 1 track is added into online mode for LFS. Similar for cars.
This way you'd keep quality stuff for online mode, while for offline (aka single-player) doesn't matter as much.
OK... LFS is still no.1. simulation for me. I really like it, the way it drives, etc... there are ofc some things that can/should be improved, but still compared to other simulations it rocks.
But... when was last >major< (content) patch?
We've been waiting so long for improved physics, and there's still no light in the tunnel.
When can we really expect some new tracks/cars?
In next year... 1 car and one track? And that's even 'maybe'?
Now, I'm not bashing developers. It's their game. I paid for S2. I got what I paid for.
But, as this is still 'game in development', for sure that development seems rather stalled.
If there were new physics, new tracks and cars - and it's called S3, I'd be very glad to pay for it, so that's really no issue. Issue is it *is* getting outdated, and there's after so long of 'development' still no hint when we can get anything new.
As for 'go play other games'.. tried rFactor - tbh, didn't like it. Iracing - tbh, not going to pay that much for a sim.
At the moment, I must say I'm waiting and hoping for rFactor2 to be the 'next one'. As for LFS, I do hope things pick up, as I really enjoyed it so far... but time does it's toll.
In the end, about many comments about devs refusing public help.
I do understand from one point of view. However, my opinion is they could have 'tweaked' that a bit different.
While there's maybe no real need for public mods, having public make new cars/tracks might help out. However, that should be under control.
What I mean is, if you have 300 cars and 100 tracks available, it's maybe just too much, and things get 'watered down'.
What i would suggest is have option for all that being offline content, and devs picking up some of >good< tracks/cars and making those available for online content.
