The BF1 is not for everyone, just as Formula 1 is not for every driver. As the supposed pinnacle of motorsports technology, F1 cars are tricky to drive. I am of the opinion that most of the F1 drivers today (please note I did say most) are among some of the finest drivers in the world, and for good reason.

I tried earlier today to look for a quote I heard a while back...I think it was Jeff Gordan's crew chief to Jeff Gordan when he had a test drive in an F1 car some time ago. I have to paraphrase (if you know who did say this, and the exact quote, please let us know):

A drive in the worst Formula 1 car is better than a drive in any other race car.

Quote from MAGGOT :As an Industrial Designer in training; I deal with form and function on a constant basis. Personally, I like it when the function is so exact that it determines much of the form. It makes designing the form to be aesthetically pleasing a much more difficult conquest; often with much more interesting results that something done the other way around. I think that is the major problem in the auto industry these days; everyone seems to design the bodywork and then try to fit everything inside it. Engineering should be done at the same time as the design work; it should all work together, not appose one another.

As a technician who has been involved in prototype engineering over many years (albeit, not in the auto industry) I personally find function determining form to be aesthetically pleasing. This is just my taste though, and I have no consideration for marketing appeal or the taste of those outside of engineering or industrial design.

This being said, I personally find the DP1 to be a beautiful car.

OT Sidenote: MAGGOT, what specific field of ID are you in?

Quote from JTbo :End of rice discussion

Lima Oscar Lima That's hilarious :thumb3d: (Gotta love Urban Dictionary)

It gets tiresome to read all the acrimony between drifters, racers, tuners, Licenced, Demos, et al.

This sub-forum is a Suggestion forum, where ideas/requests can be presented by the members, discussed, and considered by the Devs (or not). Why some of these threads turn into panty twist, sandy kitty flame-wars says a lot about some people...

I'm a member of the GranTurismoX.net forums (site currently down) as well as an Admin/Race Admin there. Many of the serious racers from the old school GT1/2/3 and even GT4 comps have started racing LFS together on a private server (Green Tavern Racing) as members of the GrantursimoX [gtx] team.

Great fun. Many of us have met each other in r/l and attend motorsport events, car shows, autox, and other related car activities together.

I have already conditioned my family to realize when I don't answer my phone, I'm either a) Driving my car or b) Racing on an LFS server. It is why voicemail exists. They know I'll get back to them.

When I enter an LFS server, IM's are off, email auto-receive is off, IRC is closed...about the only thing that may be open besides LFS.exe is LFS World in a browser window and maybe the STCC page...

As far as conflicting events, such as an eBay bid deadline and a scheduled race, I try to have some situational awareness when I'm prioritizing.

I come from the Gran Turismo racing community (don't laugh...it's a huge and very competitive group, even if it is light years behind LFS in terms of "simulation").

As a Race Admin, OLR (a euphemism for what the GT world calls online racing) forum admin, and active iLink (GT3) and LAN (GT4) racer, one of the great concerns was always cheaters. In traditional OLR, drivers would submit times for a hotlap or race, the Race Admin would compile the results and declare the winner. In the early days, there was no definitive way to detect cheaters...suspicious times required a "walk through" of the lap in question, declaring apex speeds, gears, etc. and it was often tedious to declare a submitted time clean or foul.

Later, we had the Dex Drive and then the SharkPort which allowed saved replays to be emailed to Race Admins/Stewards for review, and cheating became more difficult to get away with.

Ultimately in this community, most forums/boards adopted a 2 strike policy. If you were caught cheating once, you were given 1 strike, not including any "punishment" for the infraction itself (loss of points, DQ's from an event, etc.) On the 2nd strike, you (you screen name) were permanently banned from further competition at that forum, and often word got to other forums that you were "not to be trusted" by any means.

The bottom line is, Gran Tursimo RA's, Stewards, Admins, moderators and drivers learned that this loss of credibility was the biggest deterrent to cheating.

Only dog servants (which is what I am, as opposed to a dog owner) can understand the loss of a good friend...same with cat servants.

So very sorry for your loss, Kiss me. At least you will have the memories of stella...

Here's a little something that may give you (and others that have lost a pet) a bit of respite from the grief:

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Cheers 7051

As a rookie driver myself, may I suggest having a look at the STCC server 1b. It's short races with the UF1 (Minicooperish FWD), and though quite competitive, occasionally you can get in with some other rookie drivers and really develope your LFS driving skills.

See you on the tracks!

Howdy XCNuse,

The phenomena you are seeing here is not unusual at all, as far as the growth of members and posting madness.

New people always present a mix of n00bishness and/or future contributing membership. There are many ways to combat the Department of Redundancy Dept. posts, especially when dealing with folks who don't take the time to read FAQ's, stickies, or (heaven help us) utilize the search function, but unfortunately human nature being what it is, they don't often work.

I've seen forums that tried post moderation for specific sub-forums, but this leads to overworked moderators, and a plethora of "Why did it take x hours for my post to show up" threads in the Q&A sections. It works for awhile, but ends up being a strain on the Mods and regular members.

One of the most effective ways to deal with this, as a regular member, is to take a leadership role. Don't spam a useless or redundant thread; that just alienates folks and contibutes to the mess. If it's a useless thread, best not to reply at all in it. If it's redundant, try posting a link to a more pertenant thread, or a thread that has covered a topic more completely.

They say a place is what you make of it. As regular members and/or Mods and Admins, we can all do our little parts to make this place better.

It seems like you're looking for a free ride.

If you are truly an aficionado of racing simulations, then a few hours on the demo, online or offline, would tell you the the core physics are superb, and the "risk" of dropping £24 and expecting to be disappointed with the "fast" cars is completely unwarranted.

Step up. Pay the Devs. They've earned it.
