aga, first think, then post. despite the fact that crashed cars take the normal entry (read rules) u should have noticed that the stewards have done one of their best decisions by putting as harmless as possible marks and "barirers".
i have done this mistake too thinking that under SC u may enter pits as u like as long as u dont pass the SC. thanks to Jeffy and the others we now have cleared this.
Guys I have been thinking about this whole NDR CART and especially the 500 or better said the oval stuff and here's the result:
- I obviously had a wrong image of you guys. I was thinking NDR is a big group with a respective background and that u guys are just too slipshod.
- Numerous of my posts were critics. Well let me tell u this: I only critic on things that do matter to me.
- Since you guys obviously can use help I am offering it - or should I say Dear NDR-team, I hereby offer my help
Now i'm not a tech expert and lack knowledge that one could really use in this aspect but I think I can contribute in all other ways, no matter if hard or soft skills are required.
I'm really, seriously intersted in contributing so that this project can live on even if LFS never sees anything new.
It was the 28th March 2009, a Saturday morning. I was working on my skin for LFS NDR CART. I had had no time for it and that day a pre-season-event, the Kyoto 150 was on. So I tried to make an as good as possible skin and post it in time. Suddenly I saw squares in all colours on my screen. I phoned the guy where i bought my pc and he told me I could bring it there but he'd not be able to check it that day anymore. So I went to my brother's pc, did there a skin (just put the required text on Falke's template) and joined the race there. On monday I got told that the graphic card had broken. He'd put in a substitute meanwhile. So I spent all the time trying to do the best of it, which was more than hard. nvidia for some reason doesn't seem to care much about customer support and so it took those idiots more than two months to do something.
On Friday before the 400 I phoned him for the tenthousandth time to ask about any response from those morons and he told me that finally there was good news. The next day, Saturday, I got it istalled and how sweet it was. But still i had problems with it running mad as soon as performance was asked. So I thought it was gonna be a Saturday just like the one a bit more than two months ago. I joined the NDR CART server and gave it a shitty qualifying lap so that I could see how it is to be in the area where we get our yellow-safety-car-annoying races from. After all this unbelievably bad luck there obviously was nothing to loose and that was my mood even long time after the number of laps had reached two digits.
The turning point came after I had done the obligatories. There I at least was hoping to make it to the finish - no matter if lapped, crashed or whatever. So the race went on and things were getting better. Yet all the time I was just waiting for a a crash since that day would need its peak. And i was not disappointed. Coming out of turn one soon after my pit I touched Barnsley. When I first saw him spin I thought it was just another lagging he was having that race but this time it was not. He had been crashed so bad that he was doing some amazing pirouettes. I halfhearted made the best of it and was still on the leading lap. Later my problems would catch me and i would get hot tyres, which was the reason for touching Teien and damaging the right side of the car. Until the 170 / 180 laps I still was not expecting anything else but another such crap. When 190 and 200 were over I first dared hoping of a top 5 result. Then in the last laps things were ok. Finally I crossed the line with the position number 1 and it felt good.
Mate this a case of a misunderstanding. How do u get to the conclusion that we were shooting at u? Please don't leave. I have been thinking about all this NDR CART and 500 stuff since a while and the result shall be posted as son as possible.
I instantly apologised on ventrilo, said that i will correct my mistake and let the passed cars by. So I drove all the lap in a way that would not be dangeruous and still make it possible to let them by. Until t2 i was outside anyway hoping it would get fixed but it took a whole lap. However, within one lap i had done as said and corrected my mistake and let the cars by at the point i passed them. All this i did in a as safe as possible way of course.
So glad u noticed and told this. I am shocked that the stewards seriously let a standing safety car on the track. But anyway ... my post in the protest section should be enough for now ...
it is shattering to see that after numeruous practice sessions there has been almost no improvement. I will take 6 Teien and 73 O'Keefe as examples. The start of session 8 for instance. After numberless practices with the known starting conditions 6 Teien steps on the throttle and gives it a manouver like he was driving alone, although he has seen at least two drivers in the left just a second before. Now let's do some cause study: How can it be that after so many sessions someone does this? The logical explanation to this is that the driver must be mentally handycaped. This is not ment as an offence but in objective and medical terms. Lets move to the second example, 73 O'Keefe: Although beeing asked friendly, warned and shouted numberless times, he hasn't changed his behaviour. Moreover, he continues to warm tyres, brake and accelerate, jump out of the file, pass under yellow and crash people even under safety car.
Summing up one obviously has to ask: Why haven't the stewards done anything yet - especially minding the fact that there is a major event in less than 24 hours? I do doubt there is an excuse for this, since obviously none of you has even had a look on the replays, which is the least to be done by people claiming to be proper stewards. I hereby once again ask u to act.
1.: @fermevc: you won't see cars on your side in the mirror lol.
2.: fermevc's posts and his worries about beeing excluded, which show that he is one of the drivers who are seriously interested in progress and btw somehow make him sweet and imaquad's post brought me to an idea:
Appearently there are two options for the 500 policy (for the morons: i'm meaning the way of acting, not police):
1.: you can put in a severe filter which makes sure that only the pros of oval racing are participating
2.: you can be noob-friendly.
if second option is chosen then we should do something about making them familiar with oval racing. I suggest a thread dedicated to this topic. Until such a thread is opened, i will post the best advises i have here
- hold your line. in situations where you are unsure the best thing u can do is hold your line. if the other drivers do that too than the accident-potential is lowered considerably.
- (note!: i personally am not familiar with this! beeing afraid it might affect the health of lfs i have never tried out stuff like goodyear-tyres or other) tools / (unofficial) addons: as a beginner tools like pit spotter or other might be interesting for you. if u want to use them make sure u have checked all precautions and be as careful as u can. you will find them in the Unofficial Addons section. i recommend u to use the search function.
- reliability / consistency: you can call me "captain obvious" but concentration is to be mentioned. as u can see in the last year's 500 mistakes happen even to Failure and 510NED, which were the best drivers by far in the field.
sorry should have been more precise: i meant it in genral. i was not referring to this safety-car regulation. i meant we should make use of the freedom to form that we have and choose rationality over desperately trying to copy IRL.
True. And glad u mention it. Entering the last turn one of the NDR-guys said in ventrilo something like "leader sets pace", so i thought I have to focus on the leader and not wait for the message "green flag". Anyone recorded the ventrilo?
I must excuse to the guy i hit while safety-car phase and all the others i might have crashed or threatened. I had some serious problems. Either i would find myself skipping or others do that. Problems solved. Shouldn't happen again.
