Dave, I for one definitely do not spend all my time in front of the PC playing games and moaning all day. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong in showing my concerns about the future of LFS.
If I am making these posts it's because I actually care about this game. I see the potential in it. I don't care if rFactor 2 has official tools for modders now. I'm not interested whether rFactor 2 dies today or in 10 years (if you catch my drift). I never liked it that much anyway. (Although I know it's a very nice sim for what it is)
And, once again, it's a shame that LFS is dead as it is now. You can barely find a public racing server with people except the Demo ones.
Do you enjoy joining a server without anyone? I don't think so.
Yes, I agree with the OP stating most of the competitive people have disappeared. You can open the server list on a Saturday and see it for yourself. No leagues anymore for the most part. If any.
When S1 was out and rumors of S2 where going on, exactly the same behavior could be seen.
Mate, S2 was released in 2005, it's been 10 years without any more cars or tracks being released. It has been so long even the cars look old by now lol
Excluding a few dozens of die hard fans posting and mumbling every time someone comes here to ask if there will be anything new in the near future, there's basically no one interested in even opening LFS anymore.
Even though I still think LFS still has the basis to be again up there at the top along with rF2, iR or AC its already too late because nowadays all racing sims have real cars, real tracks and I don't see them making any new deals to have real cars nor real tracks in another 10 years. (Let's hope I'm wrong tho)
Also online and physics wise other racing sims has them as good or even better so there's little to see here by now.
What are they actually doing? Everyone is moving to Assetto Corsa
Just in case it is somehow not yet clear, we are currently working very hard on the last things to be able to release the new Westhill. That is what we are actually doing.
P.S. We don't mind if you use another sim any time you feel like it. There's no exclusivity clause in our contract with you.
You sure are a great programmer but I think you are old enough to understand that by saying things like this you are ruining a great community.
But hey, if that's what you want, that's exactly what the people is doing.
Just don't expect people returning here just because you updated a race track... after a decade.
I have to say that the sense of time has been lost a long time ago by the developers. I can understand every game company has their own pace of developing their software.. but this so out of the line that I had to (finally) write this post down once and for all.
Not only that; devs don't care one single bit of what 90% of the community actually want.
They follow their own path's and you have to deal with it.
"If you like it, thank you very much, if you don't, there are other racing sims out there!"
Reading an update report such as this it's blatantly obvious.
LFS still has the basis to be the most realistic online racing experience on the market and I've enjoyed a whole lot for the past 3 years.
But as I've reckoned, there's no new content for 7 or 8 years... it's not only beyond ridiculous, it's embarrassing!
I'm not posting this with bad intentions, I admire a lot your work. For 3 men, this is amazing! I'm writing this because we are the people who still care and hope for new SIGNIFICANT stuff to come out. And as nothing significant happens, people are moving on, which is sad!
Heya mate, I'm having a very annoying problem, not sure what that is.
When I try to minimze LFS it gets stuck and I can't do anything. I still see LFS like I would without minimizing it but with no sound. And I can't do anything. I just get stuck in there seeing the people inside the server lol
Any thoughts about this? It really annoys everything because I no longer can go back to the desktop without ctrl+al+del and sign out... meaning leaving the server for example..
