This is a somewhat quick and sloppy render, only saved by shopping it - but it worked . I think someone gave it to me on IRC but I've completely forgot who. Sorry about that but do tell who asked for this so I can store it properly in my renders library.
I have collected all of my (primarily) LFS renders and uploaded these to an online portfolio site. There are some 470 renders
These include renders I did on my own but also all of the requested renders I've done over the past few years. All are available in highest resolutions. The latest are in good resolutions while older renders and especially testrenders are more or less limited in size.
I plan to use this portfolio in the future instead of manually creating different resolution downloads that I've been doing.
LuxRender is a non-biased renderer which means it aims for über realism, however that in itself does not guarantee good renders (just like you can take a photo with a camera and even though you are photographing reality, it may still look like crap vs. professional photographs - and no, its not purely because pro's use expensive gears. You can take good pics with crap hardware too if you know what you are doing). Personal skills are still a requirement.
Non-biased also means the renderer doesn't cheat (everything is done as true as possible). This affects rendertimes a lot.
Are you willing to wait for such rendertimes? I'm not, which is why I've been ignoring non-biased renderers for a long time.
mental ray and vRay (among others) are biased (they cheat) renders but they can produce über realistic results too - rendertimes however are much faster.. but again - skills are required.
It is not enough to have a solid renderer - you still need knowledge about surfaces/materials, colors, lights, compositions and more.
Edit: If you are looking for something easy to do LFS renders with, then give something like this a try: http://www.bunkspeed.com/shot/
Hi - maybe but I can't promise it. My creditcard just got swallowed by an ATM on false automated misuse suspicion, so I'm pissed off right now, and not in mood for doing renders.
The pic of the guy was a factual image. No child molestation (pedo bear) pics I've seen so far have been based on similar type of imagery, so your point is invalid IMO.
