Clamping the wheel to a big wooden desk will amplify the noise of the vibrations (making it sound like it cutting through the desk!). Try placing some of those anti-slip rubber mats underneath the wheel to absorb some of the noise.

Coventry Uni does an Automotive Eng course (at lease they used to when I was there). Good university shame about the city

Brunel and Loughborough are both excellent choices.

For a Ghost Car - http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... 2&highlight=Ghost+car

and I have a profile for LFS in my Nvidia Control Panel to enable AA and AF. I know you can do the same for ATI cards.

I have two PCI-E 7600GS and they run LFS with no problems what so ever, I can only duplicate what Quint999 said and try running Driver Cleaner and use it to clear out any old ATI driver files that get left behind.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to make sure that your motherboard drivers are up to date and maybe try reinstalling DirectX 9.0c

I'm using an X-Fi and with LFS it sounds exactly the same as my old Audigy. If you play games such as BattleField 2 or the upcomming Ghost Recon game (and you have a machine good enough to play those two) then its worth your while as they sound so much better. If you just play LFS then its really not a worth while upgrade.

Wouldn't this be better if these stats were per-server. I used to run an Enemy Territory server with a script called ETStats (http://soul.datamax.bg/~cade/away/ets/) there are similar kinds of systems running on Counter Strike servers. You could type in the chat box things like "/rank" to get your own info etc, it would also announce milestones (like 10 kills in a row etc for ET)

All this was then presented in a web page (which got more hits than our forums :rolleyes

Just got off a server with a friend on South City Classic, he was in the FZR, and I was in the BF1, I was having a great time pulling up next to him with him going full tilt, and then stomping on the gas pedal and looking at him go all tiny in my mirrors.

SO1 is also one hell of a bumpy track in an F1 car as well, never really noticed then before

Sounds like an Ars response

I wouldn't say much to him, sounds like hes' not the sort of person that would enjoy LFS anyway. Leave him to play what ever his choice of racing game is.

The new versions of WB (version 5) is far from being a system hog, unless 450K of memory is precious to you...

http://jote.pai.net.pl/jn/3dcc/ 3D Colour Changer makes changing classic colours very easy, it also has downloadable schemes or you can just save your own. Further taskbar customising can be done with TClockLite (http://homepage1.nifty.com/kazubon/tclocklight/index.html) if you're in to that sort of thing.

Not sure why Looney is comparing WB to blackbox though...apples and oranges if you ask me

As I understand it, LFS sets up the wheel-to-wheel lock depending on the car you're driving, the setting in LFS options is to limit the maximum lock to be used (my friend only like 180 degrees for example) There is probably a better explaination out there somewhere.

Hold down the buttons (on the wheel) Shift + R3 + Right finger flipper....it should make a clunking noise and rotate past 200 degrees.

I went from a Formula Force GP to the DFP a week ago, I really didn't like the DFP when I first used it, but after a week of driving I've gotten used to it - so much so my pb on Aston Nation in the FXR is now in the 1:44s.

I still can't catch spins the way I used to (arms flailing all over the place) but I guess the trick is not to spin in the first place. I'm also a smoother driver than I was which is kinder to my tires

Best of luck sorting things out, I hope to see you online again soon - maybe I'll have gotten good enough not to let you scamper off into the distance
