I took the track insurance as I had just got the car, I probably wouldn't do that again. I was getting 9mpg on the track, ouch, and I trashed the tyres and brakes.
Sometimes the track days have slick for hire, which are worth it in my opinion. For scoob events a rally truck would turn up fully kitted with scooby wheels with slicks fitted.
Depends on the track\group organising the track day.
I'm a member of the Subaru Impreza Drivers Club and the track days I have attended at knockhill have been open pit-lane types where between 09:30 and 13:30 you can come and go as you please.
As for my LFS setup I have it set so I never use the full travel of the brake pedal and I modulate my braking to try and achieve maximum braking at all times.
Onboard footage of series like the Aussie V8's shows drivers dabbing the brakes way before a corner to ensure they still have pedal pressure. I've seen this commentated on more than once.
I only recall seeing this done on street circuits though, although I'd bet they do it on the way down the hill at Bathhurst as well.
AlexC, I stand by my recommendation for CTRA. As others have correctly stated, the entry servers (race 1 & single seater 1) are a bit of a noob fest but once you get past those the quality of racing increases significantly. The players ability to race well is directly linked to their license so any people with poor racecraft are weeded out of the system as their licenses are reduced or removed completely. Race3 is my favourite and the quality of racing is superb.
