But if that happens to a race leader, then it's tough shit imo. That's part of racing. The car being lapped (assuming it's not a mid-race join or someone spinning everywhere that shouldn't be trying out multiplayer yet) is under no obligation to dive out the way - it's up the leaders to make the pass maneouvre and the lapped car to not defend against them.
I've been in both situations and yes, it's hugely frustrating to be held up by a slower car when you've got the leading pack right on your tail, but that's part of racing and imo doesn't justify spamming "BLUE FLAG!" with an F-key until it becomes obvious the lapped car is deliberately defending against you. And it's nowhere near as frustrating as being the lapped car when a leader comes round that just about expects you to slam it into the armco to leave the track clear for him and his ego. Anyone that laps me while spamming blue flag messages can expect the least co-operation I can get away with providing.
Quite surprised by the new Aston configs. Personally I was quietly hoping that the Aston track would have been physically amended to link the two sections shown in white on the attached image - this would have given some really new configurations.
As it turns out we've got Aston Grand Touring which I'll admit I don't understand the point of - it's so similar to Aston Grand Prix, with the exception of the T1 area all the corner sequences are the same. If anything Aston Historic and Grand Prix already suffer from being broadly very similar in their overall feel, and now there's AS GT as well.
On the other hand, Aston North looks like a good blast and a good way of introducing some new corners using the existing tarmac. It's extra good in that it's the first Aston circuit of good/moderate length with some sections suitable for things slower than the GTRs or single seaters.
D'Oh! Silly me never realised vBulletin had that feature. Nice one - thank you! No more humourless, pointless, egotistical inane spamming twaddle from him any more.
(EDIT @ Primoz below: c'mon now, let's be realistic. He would never make a worthless post.)
It'd be nice to think so, as I imagine doing the research and coding into a black art like tyres can be pretty arduous and thankless at the time; and the list of updates required (i.e. assumed by the community that we'll be getting for S2 Final) from Eric is pretty extensive too.
I'm just kinda sitting back and waiting to see what the result is - the tyres are improved and the downforce bugs have been fixed which is the bare minimum I wanted from the patch, so anything else is a bonus. Then again, there really ought to be something else good since we've waited so long for the update.
Yeah, on a negative note, it's a shame it's obviously taken the release of nkp to prompt the devs into actually releasing any kind of information, especially a tease like this - otherwise, I can't help but wonder if we'd all still be in the dark as to where the good 'ole LFS is headed.
On the plus side, it has happened so that's that, and I look forward to seeing the steps this product has taken over the past six months to keep it ahead of the new competition.
Not sure if this has been mentioned before as a search didn't yield anything, but it seems the wrong car has been recorded on LFSW.
My online race history shows that I took part in the MoE with an XRR, but ITEK used the FXR this season. The detailed race results (lap listing) is correct and shows the FXR, but the overview page pictured below seems to have other ideas.
It was a joke thread made by "Scawen. (Demo Racer)" which presumably got moved to a hidden "bin" forum or just outright deleted as soon as a dev or moderator saw it.
Errr, tbh I'm not sure. I vaguely recall something about using a teaspoon and warming it and letting it partially crystalise. Then again, whoever told me that may have been worse for wear himself and getting confused with crystal meth...
Agree with this - it's a real hassle keeping track of various setups. An automatic filtering system based on the file prefix (as with the skins for each car) would be handy. When the physics are fixed and undertrays are dependents on ride height and locked differentials don't work then most people will have to throw away their setups anyway and start again, so implementing this with a physics update would be perfect timing.
In addition it'd be nice to see changes being made to a setup and having to save the setup manually. The automatic saved changes as you rejoin the track means it's far too easy to bugger up the "original" base setup you're refining or making variations of, only to have to go and download it or get it sent to you again.
Well apparently you're not really supposed to drink it neat, like you would with a shot of vodka. Which I wish someone had told me before I tried it...
Thanks for the interview. As Tweaker said, nice to have some insight and clues into what is and isn't going on while we patiently wait for the next "official" piece of news on LFS. Helps manage everyone's expectations.
(@ sinbad: Victor never said anything about anything being released in April. I'm expecting just an announcement of what improvements/new features have been made and that will be released shortly. Although I'd love to be proven wrong. )
Turns out I always had haze switched off - I don't recall ever changing it myself so LFS presumably automatically turned it off for my card. Switched it on, no problems for me.
The haze effect looks good at Blackwood (as mentioned previously in this thread) with distant objects like the four towers becoming clearer as you get closer. But at places like South City it doesn't look right imho - with haze turned on it makes the distance/horizon look a lot more like a 2D backdrop than with it turned off.
gfx card: GeForce 5900LX (Asus), 78.01 drivers
Dunno, I'm no geography expert. But you can certainly have hazy days in the countryside or the coast where it's not pollution. I'm guessing it's something to do with the water vapour content of the air.
The Gallardo was pretty much a promotional tool for Lamborghini, yes. It's used regularly but Lambo obviously intended it as a marketing thing.
Whereas these are the real deal...
Essex Police aren't the only force to use Lancer Evolutions, and apparently other forces have reported that the running costs are huge. Obviously worth it though.
And just to prove that Lambos are used as promotional tools, the Italian police weren't the only ones. The Metropolitan Police were loaned a promotional Gallardo for one day in full police livery:
Probably not too useful in the middle of London though. So maybe a police FO8 skin isn't quite so far-fetched as it first seems.
Resources aren't everything though - look at the Mercedes engine over the past year or two. Even with the backing of DaimlerChrysler they haven't always been able to produce an engine that was reliable or the most powerful.
I've heard good things about the Cosworth V8, and I'd love it to shove Williams back up to the front of the grid - not just to prove the doomsayers wrong, but also to raise a big two fingers to BMW.
And there was the time in F1 some years ago when Ralf Schumacher was pretty much a novice, and that ITV Louise woman interviewed him on live coverage in the pitlane after either retiring from the race or qualifying badly (I forget which). His curt response to her question?
"Well, we f***ed it up."
You could almost hear the ITV producers sucking through their teeth.
I'm giving up hope of resurrecting my MS SW FFB, there's little or no information (or availability) about the new Thrustmaster Rallye GT wheel anywhere, so I guess it's time to get myself a DFP.
Can anyone suggest good places to get one from, i.e. cheap and good delivery? Obviously I've looked around a bit and can get a DFP from one of the obvious/big places on the internet but if anyone has some recommendations that prove better, then I'm all ears.
Thanks everyone for the interest shown so far. Unfortunately yes, there were some site problems last week but we now have something in place, although we effectively had to start from scratch again so some forums are empty again. It's not all perfected yet and there may be a few technical teething issues here and there, but feel free to pop over to the forums, say hello and introduce yourself to the school.
