As the thread is alive again, I may as well post a new challenge

Note: This is just a part of the circuit.

Hm, probably, fastest lap of the race last year was a 1:21.504
TheDeppchef
S2 licensed
Well, Massa had a 1:21.101 [1] last week there, and I think it was cooler back then.
Also Kimi's Pole last year was a 1:20.878. [2]
The new qualifying format will probably not allow for a 1:19/low 1:20 but I think the cars would be capable of it.

Quote from Becky Rose :LFS' isn't the first game i've modded, but how do I take credit as "Jaguar", "Smurf" or "Banshee"?

Well, you could always use 'Becky "Banshee" Rose'
I myself have no problem with my work being considered TheDeppchef's work, because.. well - that's me. But then that is maybe just because the nick is unique enough so I don't have to fear to be confused with someone else?

I think this is just a matter of your "e-origin".
People that play/have played fps/rts are likely to have a nick they used since the dawn of time, whereas people that (before lfs) where never that involved in internet gaming probably won't. For most of "us" (speaking for the first group) it's not just a nick, it's part of your identity, given it is a bit unique (unlike "Killer" or something like that).
I for example have never used a different nick. (Well.. sometimes the abbreviation "tdc"..).

Having said that, I don't mind using my real name when appropriate.
As to why nearly nobody uses them in public races - I guess that's because the game simply doesn't ask you for your real name. When I signed up I didn't even thought about using my real name.

edit: the lfs.net-signup form has it as optional fields, but they're not used in-game anyway..
That actually cries "Put your nickname in the username field"

You sure it's about the weight? I can't see some small marbles weigh more than.. let's say a kg.
I always thought it was to increase ride height to compensate for the lost mms due to tyre wear? (And thus to stay within those regulations)

Quote from Woz :I am going to play with a new concept called trustware on my next product. This will be free download and will not require registration in any way. If the user likes the software I ask them to pay me what it is worth to them not what I feel it is worth. The users will be told that if they support me I will support them with updates otherwise I will kill off the product.

I can only speak for me, but if I'd see it is a good program, I would certainly throw some cash out for it afterwards. (Well maybe not too much since I'm a poor student, but still ^^).

When will The Industry accept that the more they try to prevent theft, the more they turn their customers down?
I would maybe buy game X if the demo (if there actually IS a demo) would not install some funny hacks on my system to prevent me from copying it which actually causes the game to not run at all?

And don't get me started on the music industry..

As for the wheel covers:
I'm not a lawyer, but Article 3 (which was partly quoted here) is called "Bodywork and dimensions", where bodywork is defined in Article 1.4 as "all entirely sprung parts of the car in contact with the external air stream except [..]"
Also Article 1.6 says about Wheels: "Complete wheel :
Wheel [previously defined as "flange and rim"] and inflated tyre. The complete wheel is considered part of the suspension system."
[Which would mean Article 3 would not apply]
However Article 10.3.3 says: "Non-structural parts of suspension members are considered bodywork."
[Which would mean it would apply?]

Article 12 ("Wheels and Tyres") doesn't help to clarify.

Thus I guess Ferrari can really only justify it, if they refer to Article 11.4:
Quote :
3.15 Aerodynamic influence :
With the exception of the cover [..] and the ducts
described in Article 11.4
, any specific part of the car influencing its aerodynamic performance : [..]

11.4 Air ducts :
Air ducts around the front and rear brakes will be considered part of the braking system and shall not
protrude beyond :
- a plane parallel to the ground situated at a distance of 160mm above the horizontal centre line of the
wheel ;
- a plane parallel to the ground situated at a distance of 160mm below the horizontal centre line of the
wheel ;
- a vertical plane parallel to the inner face of the wheel rim and displaced from it by 120mm toward the
centre line of the car.
Furthermore, when viewed from the side the ducts must not protrude forwards beyond the periphery of the
tyre or backwards beyond the wheel rim.
All measurements will be made with the wheel held in a vertical position.

Although that doesn't seem to make much sense, I think it DOES say that those ducts should not be IN the wheel?

Quote from CSU1 :Ok, If I see a skin I like om x server while in pit, then I see it in my skin_x folder and then put it in the normal skin folder, how do I get LFS to "refresh" and see the new skin now in the data/skin folder?
I usually restart LFS.exe ???

I just guess it works the same as with the setups.
In that case you could
- switch to another car and then back to the one you want to use
or
- exit pit mode and shift+s again

E30 M3 could do the job, too, I guess.

You may have already read it, but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpolation

Generally, if we have n data points, there is exactly one polynomial of degree n−1 going through all the data points. The interpolation error is proportional to the distance between the data points to the power n.

Having cited this: Can Excel only fit with polynomials of degree 5?
If so, then yes, I guess you'd need other programs for that..

Not sure about freeware products, but the professional mathematics programs like Mathematica and Maple will probably do the job.

Sorry for not having the answer you wanted to hear, though.

I highly doubt that.
If they really signed Kimi, then they probably know that MS will quit.

I think Kimi is one of (if not the) fastest drivers in F1, but imho not among the best. He seems to make more mistakes than others and sometimes I think it's not only bad luck that most times a McLaren doesn't finish, it's his.. (due to technical failures, I mean).
Well maybe that is unfair, as Montoya's car often didn't have the chance to suffer from that..
Maybe my memory is just wrong here, but I think out of the last 10 punctures in F1 Kimi had at least 5. ^^

Quote from tristancliffe :Why do you say that? It's mostly the cars that limit overtaking, rather than the drivers. Of course, being some of the best drivers in the world (generally speaking) the overtaking is bound to be less, as everyone is of equal(ish) skill in equal(ish) cars.

Wasn't it Ron Dennis (or someone in the McLaren 'family') that said GP2 would be rubbish if it was just F1 drivers in it because they'd all be about the same speed?

I'm with you for the drivers, I guess most of them could do what e.g. Massa does if they had the chance to sit in a Ferrari - and he's not that much slower than MS.
And while I see that you do not want to suggest that Ferraris and Super-Aguri s are "equal(ish)" cars, I don't think the reason a Ferrari (in most cases) can't overtake a Renault (and the other way round) is that both cars are equally fast. Because in fact, you often see that even if the following car is 1 or 1.5 seconds faster it won't have the slightest chance to overtake, unless the driver in front gently lets him pass or makes an error.
I actually blame the FIA for reducing mechanical grip (for example banning slicks) instead of downforce (dunno.. reduce wing size, ban all those mini wings and displacements, whatever) to slow the cars down. (Reducing engine power was probably a good idea though, just didn't work out at all lol).

I mean, the main reason overtaking is so hard in F1 is imho that you lose so much time without "fresh air" (because the cars rely so much on a proper air flow to have enough grip, see above).

Having said this, I don't want to claim that GP2 only has more takeovers, because the cars rely less on aerodynamics (you have to admit, that they look much "simpler", though). Surely different driver skills have an impact there, too..

Anyway, guess I'm slightly off-topic here..

Tested it now, too.
Took about 4 minutes until they stopped.

It's just not really visible until they revolve in a speed where you can follow them.

I'm not a css-wizard, but looking at the actual html:
<td class="rlb3" valign="top" width="9">

All those cells already have css-classes.
a) You probably could include the popup-thing into the css (and then have different classes like "FXO" etc)
b) You could at least put the valign="top" width="9" into the css class and have enough "space" to insert the popup-thing without increasing size at all.
(Btw, why is the valign there? The crosses are sitting in the middle anyway, as the rows have the correct height)

Having said this, I must admit that css tends to work on all but one browser and this was maybe already tried and thrown away.

I'm not much of an oval racer, but I don't see what's wrong with the suggestion. Although I would prefer a bigger (like 1 minute in BF1) pear-shaped Oval (i.e. two turns with very different radii). In the in-field maybe have a small dirt oval that can be combined with the narrow turn of the oval or something like that.

Quote from Albieg :Worth noticing also the English one, but overall I'm happy with all those reactions. There's so much affection in some of them that I think there's a poetic justice, at the end, and I'm not referring to the outcome of the game, but just to the affectionate feelings some reporters all around the world show towards Italy.

You should consider that the opponent was Germany, though. So maybe all those commentators don't like Italy, but dislike Germany even more
