It sounds like engine damage if it's getting slower and slower each lap. Doing what the others mentioned should help, also if you post the replay we can probably tell you exactly what is causing the engine damage

Quote from Rappa Z :setupfield, only because I hadn't heard of Setup Grid until last week.

Gonna have to go with setupfield here as well. I hadn't heard of setup grid until I read this thread!! I'll have to try out some of those setups though, the sorting of quali/endurance/sprint looks nice. I usually like to tweak the sets a bit anyway, but I do need a starting point. If I tried making a setup from scratch I'd probably end up with 2 wheels in the air

Quote from petercollins :The next right is quite easy, but I often go too slowly through here.

yeah, same here. I can never get that corner quite right. I used to be able to when they had the runoff entry for the corner, but ever since they changed it I just can't get it right. The new version is overall much more difficult/realistic though which makes for a nice challenge

Great track description, it's a really fun track too, even if I have been driving it (on and off) for 5+ years

Quote from Rappa Z :For me, Blackwood is probably the best track in LFS. It seems to have everything i would expect a track to have, plus offers some very close racing.

Aston on the otherhand....

I agree about Aston in general, but I still love the historic layout, I have good memories racing there with F08 (back when F08 was an absolute beast to drive due to the tyre physics ). It's been ages since I've seen a server driving that combo though

As others have said 512 is likely the amount of RAM you have. You can find your CPU/processor speed by going to start>control panel>system, or on your desktop right click "my computer" and go to properties. The best thing to do would be to try the demo though (it works with mouse/keyboard so you can at least try it out).

Quote from frokki :BUT if you really have played FSX, I bet you can also run LFS.
(even though fs2000 was the last one i ever saw, but i don't think they have been improving much performance-wise..)

Yep, FSX runs even slower than 2000 did. If you can run FSX, LFS should be no problem. I'm a bit surprised you were actually able to run it with 512MB of RAM actually, it uses something like 1400MB on my computer

Quote from modelmotorracing :For me I think it works a little bit the other way, I found myself braking later or clipping a kerb a couple of times in my real car and thinking "I'm sure I never used to do that..."

I got a ticket for making a "racing turn" a couple years ago . I don't know if it was because of LFS though. My cars transmission was really messed up so I was just trying not to lose momentum through corners

Rfactor is fun and has some cool mods, but it also has some major problems IMO

The physics just don't have the "feel" that LFS does, I can feel the car starting to lose grip in LFS, but not really in Rfactor. I'm not saying LFS has more realistic FFB, but when there is no "seat of your pants" feeling the accurate FFB of LFS really helps IMO

It's nearly impossible to find a server with people playing the particular mod you want to play. You can just play a wide variety of mods of course, but then you'll end up downloading 20GB of mods. This is the biggest problem with the game IMO. Maybe it's just because of the time of day I play though.

It has some major stability problems too, especially with certain mods. Some of them flat out crash my computer (and it's not my PC, i can play new games like Crysis, COD4, etc just fine).

I'm not slagging Rfactor or anything, I just prefer LFS. While it doesn't have as much content (in terms of tracks/cars), the content it does have is of great quality, and most importantly I can easily find and hop on to a server for some races.

That being said, some of the mods in Rfactor are very cool, being a single-seater fan I find the 1979 F1 mod to be really nice (all those old tracks and awesome sounding cars). Nordschleife is always nice too of course

I've been playing Mass Effect too and if the physics truly are worse in GRID, that's really saying something!

Unfortunately the physics really are that bad, possibly the worst physics I've ever seen in a racing game. The "cars" (magical hovercrafts with wheels would be more accurate) all feel exactly the same too. Even the slowest car in game probably has more grip than a real F1 car

Just to give you an idea, you can take eau rouge (at Spa) very easily flat out with any car. A Chevy Lacetti probably takes it at 130-140mph...and a F3 car takes it at 170-180mph (they cant even go that fast in a straight line).

The graphics weren't that great either, the HDR is way overdone so all the cars glow (maybe this glow gives them their magical grip), and the tracks didn't look very good either (esp the real ones)

I don't really mind the new change to the speedo in most cases, but it is a problem with the FBM. I can't see the speedo AT ALL, which is a problem in the pits, since it has no limiter. It really only matters in the pits though, during a race I go by the feel, and the engine rpm (sound).

I don't really see it as geeky. It's what i enjoy doing, so i dont really care what others think. If i was rich i'd buy a ferrari and take it to a track, but since i'm broke i'll have to settle for LFS I don't see how a race sim is considered "nerdy" but actual racing is "cool". Both real cars and LFS involve computers

F08 is great now, it's basically the same challenge the FOX was before the tyre physics update. Before the patch it was a monster to drive, but i still drove it I still tend to drive the FOX the most though, just because i enjoy the close racing, BF1 its hard to get people to even race, everyone wants to "qualify" which sort of defeats the purpose of an online simulator if you ask me..

Quote from AndroidXP :I guess some already saw it, if they read the LFS vs. rFactor thread.

It's a typical ASS (pun intended) review. They merely compare how realistic the setup options are, and then do some dubious tests with the default setup. Somehow they "feel" that both cars offer too much grip, but in the end rFactor is preferred because it offers more grip.

...

The F1 cars in Gran Turismo have crazy grip, so that must be the best "sim" Their testing method seems to be to set the maximum/minimum amount on everything and then try to compare it to how the RL thing should be...setting up a car is always compromising certain things to get the best overall balance for the track.

Of course it'd be nearly impossible to get all the same settings on all aspects of the cars, to compare them, which is why i dont understand why you'd even try.

I think it was obviously Don's fault. Just watching from playlifes car, he suddenly moves over into playlife. He may have been trying to "cover" the line, but that seems kinda stupid on an oval...like you said you'd just draft each other anyway. Also he should have covered the line before playlife was along side him. I don't see any good reason for him to move over like that. Better to let playlife past and repass him on the next straight than crash into him.

If it wasnt on an oval my opinion might be different, but since you can both take that corner flat-out, side-by-side, it seems unnecessary to crash. Next time just race on a real track

I think viewing the world record laps would probably the best way to improve your time. You'll be able to see the exact lines to take, as well as when and how much throttle/brake to give it. Also download the team inferno setup, that can make a big difference. I personally like using a bit more downforce than the inferno setup for AS_Club, as it makes the car a bit more stable and consistent in the corners. The setups can be found here: http://setupfield.teaminferno.hu/

Check out this link also: http://www.driversdomainuk.com/motorsport/racing_line.php

It explains the 2 basic lines you can take through a corner. Here is a graphic illustrating what it's talking about as well:

It would definately be cool to have wet racing in LFS, but as someone else said there needs to be dynamic track modelling first, otherwise it would seem a bit pointless.

Without a dynamic track it'd just be a less grippy track overall, with no new techniques or strategies involved. It would kinda just be like LFS used to be (less grippy), just a bit more extreme.

As someone else said your refresh rate on your monitor may have something to do with it. The higher the better. To change your refresh rate Right Click on your desktop then: click properties>Go to the settings tab>click the advanced button at the bottom>then go to the monitor tab. There should be a "screen refresh rate" option, set this at it's highest setting.

It also helps to not be in too bright of a room. If the sun is shining right on your monitor it makes it a lot harder to see and your eyes have to "work harder".

I just find oval racing very boring, at least with BF1/F08, dont think ive ever seen a server using any other cars... I just don't feel the pressure and excitement like i do on the regular tracks. When i race on other tracks it just feels more immersive and exciting for whatever reason. It gets my heart pumping sometimes in a heated battle, that just doesnt happen on oval, for me at least.

People say theres such close racing on oval, but theres also close racing on all the other circuits/cars except maybe the BF1. Even with that ive had many very close races, just driving that thing around a track is INTENSE.

Anyway, i just don't care for oval racing (in LFS or RL), but to each his own. This game is about racing and having fun, so whatever cars/tracks do that for you, keep on doing it

Quote from Becky Rose :Sure people swear, but not as much as they do in LFS.

TYPICAL LFS conversation:
1: fuk u
2: ****
1: wanker
2: blue flag moron! ****ING MOVE!
1: piss off
2: fu
3: calm down
1: fu 2
2: piss off wanker
1: shit head

Typical Real world conversation:
Mechanic: Ah me ****ing foot
Crew: LOL

Yeah, i never see anything near this in LFS...I'd say 99% of the things said in LFS are just friendly convo or "good pass/race" etc.

Quote from RacingSimFan :But we may be in the presence of smaller members of our families. And since when did obsenity become such an irreplaceable part of human vocabulary anyway? Sure if I stub my toe, lose control of my car, or forget to do something really important I'll let a 'colorful metaphor' slip, but otherwise I try to maintain a degree of politeness at all times.

Why is it that these certain words are considered "bad" in the first place though? They are just words. I don't swear often either, but i don't like censorship

I think the FXO should be changed, but all the others are relatively close. I just dont see why a FWD car of the same "class" would be faster, that doesn't really make sense to me.

I tend to have my DFP on a pretty small rotation, since i mostly race open-wheelers, but i've found it also works for drifting. I'm too lazy to constantly change my wheel settings It probably makes it a bit easier actually, not having to turn the wheel as much. I'd search google for "how to drift" for some tips. You basically need to turn in earlier than you normally would and give it some throttle

The car you're using and the setup can also make a huge difference. Here's a good drifting setup for the XR Turbo, it's almost impossible to NOT drift with it

http://travbrad.dyndns.org/XRGTTURBO_drift.zip Just unzip that into your "settings" folder and you're good to go

Quote from mrodgers :Because in US times there is no where TO race.

It does suck being in the US, not being able to find many races, but im usually able to find at least a few with decent numbers. I agree that BL and AS are overplayed though. No one ever seems to play the new AS configurations or KY/FE/WE

I dont understand what the obsession is with blackwood tbh, we've had that map since the demo originally came out, cant believe others arent sick of it

I see a potential problem with trying to make the game have "awesome" graphics. Most games that everyone drools over graphics look very unrealistic. The shadows, lighting, reflections, etc are always way overdone, and really don't look anything like real life. That's one of the reasons im quite happy with the LFS graphics, they are more "conservative" and look a bit more like real life, rather than a videogame.

That said, graphics arent important to me at all. In the heat of a great battle you just don't notice the graphics that much. The gameplay is the reason i play games (imagine that). I don't think better reflections or shadows are going to immerse me in the game any more. I'd much rather see pit crews, marshalls, etc before that.

Just my $.02

After pinging a website many times, i noticed every once in awhile there was a timeout, so it was just a problem with my ISP it seems. Rebooting my router and modem fixed the problem it looks like I guess LFS is just more sensitive to these timeouts than some other games (which is probably a good thing).

Thanks for the reply, and sry for wasting forum space
Lag and Disconnect

I've been trying to play LFS all day today but every server i join, i lag out and get disconnected after about 2 minutes. This wasn't happening yesterday when i was playing, and i havent changed anything. Also, other online games are working fine, so it seems to be a problem specific to LFS. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

um....huh? Why would you want to spend your LFS time driving at 30mph and obeying laws...dont we get plenty of that in real life?
