Schumacher arguably did the same thing to D. Hill after schumacher hit the wall in Adelaide, so i guess all the world champions have been bad drivers. lol
Get rid of traction control, and F1 is fixed IMO. That way the drivers actually have to feather the throttle instead of just letting the TC do most of the work. It's not like these drivers don't know how to do it. They all came from motorsport where there was no TC, i just don't see the point in TC in motor racing. Why not let the drivers do the work?
The problem is teams found a way around the rules, as was mentioned earlier. So there seems to be no solution to the problem. The FIA just basically doesn't have the ability to enforce their own rules
Keep in mind a formula1 car has traction control also, while the F08 doesnt. It's really not that difficult to drive once you get the hang of it though. Driving it fast is another matter though, and takes practice
I dont remember when i started, but it was shortly after the demo was released, so probably 2002 some time? I knew right away that LFS was something special, it was the first racing game i ever played where i felt like i was actually driving the car, not just playing some game. I didn't get a wheel/pedals till s2 came out though, so i've been playing s2 a lot more than i played s1. The wheel really brings the experience to a whole new level for me. LFS is definately the only game that feels "right" with a wheel for me. I can't imagine any other racing sim replacing LFS for me, it'd have to be pretty amazing. The graphics are really nice too. They are perfectly done, unlike a lot of games which seem to go overboard with reflections and shadows.
What's even more amazing, is that this game is made by just a few people. It's not some huge software company or anything. It's great to see that a few guys can get together and make such a realistic/fun sim. Keep up the good work guys!
Haha, that is very true. I tried playing GT4 with my DFP and there is no feel whatsoever. The cars almost seem to "float" on the track at times, if that makes sense
I did a single player race today to try out the hotlapping thing on lfsworld, and when i uploaded the replay it only counted my first lap, which obviously wasnt the fastest lap since it's a standing start. How do i make it count the lap i want it to?
I have a Athlon X2 3800+ and a Radeon X850XT, and the newer drivers give me about 20FPS. I tried setting the affinity of LFS to use just one CPU, but it seems to be the ATI driver processes that need to use one CPU. Ill try settings the affinity of the ati stuff tomorrow and see how it goes. I don't want to install the new drivers again right now
Actually I would prefer to race on a real track, the problem is there is almost never a non-oval F08 server. The AI sucks way too much to race them, and i dont really like hotlapping
I was just on the FM oval server, and the race had finished, so we were just waiting for the next one. I backed into one of the FM guys who was sitting in the pits, he honked at me, i honked back, and then i was banned...
Now i can't play on the only F08 server right now, this is ridiculous.
Great post! I couldn't agree more. I've been playing LFS for about the same amount of time. It's the only race sim where I've actually felt like im driving a real car (minus the g-forces ). I've spent so many countless hours playing LFS, and I'm still nowhere near being a "pro". You really do need to put it in a lot of practice to be decent at this game, much like real racing.
I've always thought online-play was far better than AI, and LFS is a perfect example. Real human players offer a level of skill and unpredictibility that AI just can't give you (not to mention most of the LFS racers are pretty cool people to chat with).
I just wanted to say, I'm having this problem too. The 5.12 drivers give me a 5-15% performance boost in every other game, and im stuck at 25FPS in LFS
I usually use MPH, just because that's what i'm used to (i do prefer metric measurements for most things though), although KPH works for me too. It might be partially because i watch F1, so im kinda used to that too
Most of the time you should stay far enough behind to avoid it, but there are exceptions i think. For example today on historic i was a fair distance behind someone and we went into a turn that you can take at about 130mph, and he slammed on his brakes slowing down to probably 30-40mph, i dont think anyone would antipate something like this, and i doubt anyone would drive like that in a real race.
