they're boh rip offs... and rubbish cards. mind you, it is PCI. The AGP equivalents are a lot cheaper, they're probably high priced cos of the low demand.
id look around some more, and definately do not buy from shops. get it from somewhere online, i know www.newegg.com is good for the US.
Also, depending on how old it is, the motherboard might use an old skool jumper to decipher which display to init first. Check in the manual, but you should be ok. If its BIOS controlled, it will pick up the AGP card and automatically use that.
Generally, it will output a display to both devices - i.e. the AGP AND onboard until the complete POST is finished. If one goes down the other should work, granted the northbridge chip isnt too badly damageed.
there is real world difference between AGP and PCI-E anyway... but they dont make a 7800 AGP version so you can clearly see it, it'd be pointless. and it has the potential to be even faster, which is what intelligent upgrading is all about.
Im sure theres an update for it, and I know I've seen it before....
The new posts icon wont disappear sometimes unless i look at a post several times, even after i post in it myself. It's just annoying, and seems like slow updating cookies.
Lies. 7800GTX pisses over 6800's or x850's and they dont do an AGP version because AGP is too slow.
You cant just keep ur AGP card for now and install a PCI-E one later, since you will have to change boards again. It's pretty simple logistics, GET PCI-E if your going for a full upgrade!
If the on board video is borked, that will usually mean the entire northbridge chip is dead. Which is bad, since it controls the AGP too. The graphics processor is embedded in the northbridge.
You can try an el cheapo GF4MX400 or something in there to see if it will work. If it does, you're in luck! All you have to do is set the display device priority in the BIOS to AGP instead of integrated. If it doesn't, get a new motherboard and you can use the nice el cheapo geforce in that instead, or burn it, its up to you.
Edit: After reading the last part of your OP, it sounds like you MAY be in luck. Could just be a dead video connector. Just go and buy a damn el-cheapo geforce or something. They're about £20.
Thats native res for 17" LCD's and looks best. Also spplies to some 19" LCD's, but some are higher.
Native res means that anything below that will be distorted and blocky, since the screen has to emulate that res on its native res - being 1280x1024. Always run LCD's in their native resolution for best results. Sometimes its hard in game cos some peoples graphics cards cant run that high, but if you can afford an LCD, surely you can afford a 6800 or x800
Another one against this idea. I have real life race experience (and quite a lot of it), and I'm pretty good at the game too. Having not driven much miles, I'd still call myself a skilled driver in this game and expect to get on the more skilled servers.
I'm just miffed at the tyre physics at slow speeds, I can't quite get my head around it sometimes, since im so used to being on the track IRL.
I dont like the registered nickname idea. Its bloody annoying enough choosing an account name! I like my in game nick to look neat and how it was supposed to, I dont want to have to change it or add numbers or weird chars to it cos some coont got there before me!
Its why we have the ability to chose nicknames in the first place dear boy. You can quite easily see peoples account names to decipher them in game.
64 bit motherboards with AGP were just for people who already had decent AGP cards and went for 64 bit systems, since Graphics cards are very expensive. AGP + 64bit is just a stop gap for people who didnt want to buy another expensive graphics card.
If your going for an all out upgrade, definately go PCI-E. There's no point in going AGP since its going to severely stem your future upgrading prospects, and its a hell of a lot better than AGP.
Another plus point for PCI-E is that the cards are slightly cheaper.
If you have the money, by all means get the 4800 X2, dont listen to these jealous mongrels! And another no brainer - get the 7800GTX PCI-E.
UK-Online are also going to be doing a very similar 24mbit service. It all comes with ADSL2. Cable companies, such as ntl and Telewest will be maxing out DOCSIS2 protocols with 10meg lines to compete, but will also be layering DOCSIS3 once the upgrade is done, to further increse speeds.
With the new protocols comes new speed! Its the dawn of the internet 2 so to speak.
To be honest, I'm with quite a few people here in having faster upload speeds as opposed to faster download. Id rather stay at 2meg and have my upload increased to 1meg than go on to 10meg when ntl release it to the masses.
And FYI, BT are testing fibre optic broadband in certain areas of the UK, offering 100mb up and down for those lucky enough to be involved in the testing. Shame its only for another 6 months or so.
the great thing about my FFGP is that it works in my PS2. I donno if its the same deal with the MOMO of DFP, but i like that - got a wheel i can use on ps2 racin games (GT4!) and all my pc sims.
I'm a big FPS genre fan as well as racing and real-time strategy. I also enjoy these wonderful titles, in no particular order:
Natural Selection (HL1 Mod)
Dystopia (new source mod)
C&C Generals: Zero Hour (mostly playing with reborn mod)
Mu Online
Planetside
UT 2004
GTA: San Andreas
GTR
NFSU 2
I also enjoy my emulators and old classics for times i want some nostalgia. I've been gaming since the late 80's!
Visa Electron IS Visa Debit. Electrons are debit cards. I don't know where you got the idea of the customer being present from, since Debit cards are pretty much the same as Credit cards. The only difference is Debit cards take money direct from your bank account when paying for things, and credit cards take money as credit from the credit company, and you pay them in a bill which includes interest *shudder*.
Someone should look into it, since it wasnt just throwing out errors on the Visa Electron card type. I tried all of them, and got the same error over and over.
sounds like a program is trying to get your attention, or taking priority over display. sometimes i get that with certain apps. Can be playing a game happily then suddenly some program decides it wants to do something and will minimise the game and drop me on the desktop. Check out your system tray or running process list and see if you can weed out the culprit application.
