Tristancliffe - Excellent wheel setup! And it was "wrong" too. I'll need to try changing my drivers to 50% and maybe it'll feel even better.
I've been playing this game for months now and to be honest the best thing for me was always the netcode. Not anymore. After sifting through this forum for a long time over the last few weeks I've found three things which have dramatically improved my experience and my times.
1. Obvious really, DON'T GRIP THE WHEEL TOO HARD! As someone mentioned above, if you can't drive at normal speeds with just a couple of fingers then it's too heavy! Dial it back.
2. BALLS! Squash balls to be precise. Adding a halved squash ball under the brake pedal helped immensely. In fact, the effect is somehow similar to that gained with the wheel gripping tip. I get far superior feedback as regards wheels locking up. Don't underestimate this.
3. Tristan's setup above. I use a DFP and felt I had to have the ffb settings up high to kind of justify having the wheel. Rubbish. Just dial things back and the improvements can be amazing.
The squash ball trick alone knocked a consistent second off all my lap times. It's perhaps worth bearing in mind that I'm not all that good at the best of times. lol
I'm not a racing driver or anything (I wish) but I am a van driver and drive every day, all day. I'm lucky enough to be driving day to day on some of the best roads in Scotland and it's good to be precise. Now I can get that buzz in LFS now, at long last.
Thanks for the advice but I'm assuming the setup I'm using is a good one since the driver who sent it to me is consistently 1sec faster. This being the case then it can only be one or both of two things. I'm slow or our wheel settings are different. I'm trying to rule out the latter before I end it all.
EDIT : I posted the above in response to the first reply.
Your right! I've dropped the lock on my wheel with some improvements but I'm less stable also. I feel that adjusting the in-game lock to compensate for my wheels lock must be the answer but I can't figure out what the relationship is.
I realise it's not all that clear but these are the variables that occur when using a wheel with an adjustable lock. It's a minefield.
Hi folks. I can't seem to get close to the guys at the top and I'm clutching at straws to find out why. I'm using a DFP with 450degrees lock. I've been given setups by the guys who are beating me regularly but I'm always just that wee bit behind. The setups clearly work but my application of them doesn't, if you follow me.
Most wheels only have 270degrees of lock so assuming the setup that I have was arrived at using a 270degree wheel, and I'm using 450degrees, shouldn't I have to adjust the max lock in-game? If so, do I turn it up or down? 450degrees is the lock of the car according to the guides I've read so I'll be keeping that.
I am also having problems braking. I can't seem to get rid of the front wheels locking up under heavy braking. LFS appears to have a control to adjust the sensitivity (?) of the accelerator/brake. I can't remember what it's called and I'm away from my gaming rig at the moment so I'm sorry for not being clearer.
I hope some of you guys can help and I look forward to hearing any advice you may have.
Of course, I also allow for the possibility that I'm just crap.
I only drive the open-wheeled cars but you bump-draft me at your peril. I'll give you a brake test so fast. It may be legitimate in NASCAR type racing but not in single-seaters.
I agree with the above. I've got an Audigy ZS as well and the drivers are mince! Registry entries all over the shop.
Having said that, any seperate card will give improvements over on-board sound, even if it's only in CPU clock cycles. I'm currently thinking of getting rid of the Creative drivers and using the open-source kx drivers but that can be a minefield. Everything works alright for now so I'll probably wait 'til something breaks first.
BTW, for what it's worth, the sound on LFS is by far the programs' worst feature, IMHO.
I'm currently driving a Volvo 850 but by the end of the week I'll have changed to a Honda Accord. The Volvo's fast, especially in a straight line. Did I mention understeer?
Funnily enough, I'm faster everywhere in my works Peugeot Partner white van.
MX-5's, Boxsters? Bring 'em on. In the van it's all about momentum.
Sounds like you maybe need to recalibrate the wheel. Go to "options\controls\..." I can't remember what comes after controls but you'll next see the option to recalibrate. Hope it helps.
I have to recalibrate every time I start the game up.
Got it fixed now guys. It was just one of many problems I was having. I wasn't setting up the profile in the nvidia drivers correctly for LFS which made the driver go to default desktop settings.
Tried that, doesn't work. It keeps telling me they are being used by another program. I am seriously pissed off! I can't even figure out how to get into safe mode to try. It's certainly not F8 on this BIOS. My BIOS is a Phoenix.
OK. What I really need to know is how to UNINSTALL nhancer. Because the crash had set corrupted my Firefox extensions I'm left with 2 nhancer files on my desktop. I'd really like to get rid of them. When I try to it tells me they are being used by another program.
