Releasing an LFS editor
I know this one's not easy at all to code, but would you like an app which can let you add your own cars with your own models, etc?

Arrr...
How long have you been in the community?
There will be such an app once LFS is finished - 3 years down the line or so. You are a demo racer at any rate so you would reep no benefits from such an app.

By that time, I will have bought a license....

So why do you want more content now that you don't even have the full available content?

I would really love to make my own track / cars, but at the moment it doesnt really make too much sense.
Not before S2 final, maybe after S3
NEVER!!!!
....And I would love to be able to drive the tracks/cars that (a minority of) the people around here are capable of producing. It's a shame, but I understand.
depends on how much content we have when the game is fully 'complete'
Making a track right now (actually I saved it and closed 3DS not 2 minutes ago, but now is good enough).

The exciting thing - it's all my own work

The downside - it's crap.

Only got a basic (6km) layout with track, 'grass' and barriers. Making hills at recently, and joining up bit of scenery that you can see the back of. Need to work out the best way of making buildings, trees, etc and add them too. Also catch fencing would be nice, and lots of other details and oh dear my heads exploded.

I though if I started now there's half a chance I might have something worthwhile to put in LFS if/when we are allowed to.
Quote from Taavi(EST) :NEVER!!!!

:iagree: Not now since LFS is still in ALPHA stage. Later when the S3 is released and devs wont make many updates, sure why not
Yes. Later. Much later, like after LFS is complete! Who knows what may happen to LFS between now and its completion. Any mods made now could be made redundant, even by a very small change in the game.

There should have been a "Later" or "It's too soon now" option in the poll. I would've voted then.
When LFS is complete it is an idea so long as it doesn't kill the online racing like it seems to have done in rFactor. I'm not worried about the overall quality of new tracks as even the crap in GPL/N2003 has some value and it's easy to find some real gems.
Imagine lfs with a editor. TOOO many tracks n' cars in multi-player
netKar is going to charge for a devkit, maybe LFS should do the same to keep from diluting the quality of the game...this can happen to a sim when mods are all over the place...
Not an editor as such. I'd rather like to see the feature of swappable car parts between each classes (GTR, TBO...) like suspension, rear spoilers and engines. No i don't mean that you could put a FO8 engine in the UF1, this swaps should stay within the same class. Or maybe even tweaking some parts, so you will go on a server that will limit your LX6 to 170bhp or maybe make your FZR wingless. Could be usefull for the leagues.
Another thing is modifying current tracks we have in LFS. You could make your own layout by opening or closing some corners, thus creating a whole new layout. Like Aston GP that turns right after T1 (on the AS National part) instead going left on the eau rouge chickane. And so on...
I don't see why you have to charge for an SDK the Papy sims were never ruined by the number of tracks. The only 'sims' that have been ruined like this have been the F1 games.
Thing is with Papy, especially GPL (most addon tracks ever - now over 500 and most of those RL tracks), is that the fans created the mod tools from scratch. The game was never meant to be modded so the fans had to hack everything out of the game: how to make tracks, edit physics, 3dos etc.. It's so hard to do well that most people don't bother and only the most dedicated editors even try. Because of the difficulty involved (and because of the obsessive desire for accuracy) the mods, tracks and addons produced for GPL end up being of the highest quality. I can't speak for other Papy sims as I haven't tried any, but GPL mods kick serious arse (1965 Season Mod won BHM's Best Mod Award '04).
this game will never be done..

just like battleground europe (wwiionline) has been going since 2000 it's now six years later and we are in 1942'ish and more things are added every week/month the end of every year we get a huge improvment last year was paratroopers and jump planes bwaahahhaaha a good time was had by all (picture 1,000's of people jumping out of planes)

Did you mean that to be a statement? Has Scavier said this will happen? I don't know if it has.. did I miss something?

UT2004 comes with a level editor, and it's pretty comprehensive. It's still extraordinarily difficult to produce anything worth playing, but I have to say that the ECE Bonuspacks are absolutely brilliant. As far as I'm concerned, they're seamless with the original content. I believe they're put together by the UT2004 community.

While you can download hundreds of levels for UT, varying from excellent thru downright unplayable, if you download a community bonuspack you're guaranteed some really really GOOD, bug-free content.

Perhaps in the post-S3 era of LFS, the community itself will in some way self-regulate like the UT2004 community has done, and add some really excellent content to LFS, and keep it alive for years and years to come. Something tells me Eric has some big plans for the future cars and tracks in LFS.

Years ago, when there was talk from releases to be S1 to S4, yes, there was going to be S4 too at beginning, then there was this maybe after all stages are completed, maybe releasing dev tools.

But you should know that even S3 has not been confirmed, S2 was confirmed after S1 launch was success, so it is much too early to speak from S3, it could very well be that S2 is final stage and maybe after this dev tools are released but it is not promised indeed.
s3 has too been confirmed, we just have no date estimate

Just FYI, S3 is confirmed. You can even buy your S3 licence now, if you wish. You wouldn't be able to do that if the devs had not committed to it

Oh, nice I guess I have totally missed this confirmation then

But no S3 anywhere Technically I'm then S3 licensed, I guess :P

Oh yes, to subject, I voted that releasing editors would be ok even now, however it should be limited to offline use until whole S3 is ready.
i voted no, it would destroy the game if you'll have to download V0.93c with update 0.03 of a track and the XYZ carpack2006 first.
look at the ISI games, it's just a pain in the ass.

If there were a non public editor and some approvement by the devs to let it in the game, say some semi-official cars/tracks, i would vote yes.
