Anti wrecker Idea
Just a thought I had recently ... but why not use the points (that aren't used anymore) as a anti wrecker tool.

You need x amount to points to unlock a car.
This means that you have to practise and win with the slow cars first.
You gain points for winning races BUT you lose points for causing accidents.

Example :
Let's say you need 5k to unlock the sauber and you have 5050 points.
You join an online race with the F1 car, you crash 6 times during that race, taking out 12 other cars so you would loose 120 points.
This would inhibit you from joining another race with that car until you have earned enough points again.
1+
-1.

Experience is nothing at all to do with whether you are safe, also it would encourage a void of races for new players to join.
How will you police it if someone else causes YOU to crash into others? It leaves far more at stake, will lead to more heated outrage and accusations and contribute to the escalation of hostilities.
I really think this is not the answer to the problem and will actually help to make things worse.
The difficulty is filtering out the unintentional accidents from the intentional wreckers.
And who decides on whose fault it was in races?.

can........o.........worms.......especially on public servers.

Dan,
or maybee to drive more responsible
Another Anti-Wrecker thread?

Ease up Chris, put your luncheon meat away, its a valid first post, far better than a lot of people's first posts here, and a very valid point to keep discussing.
It was a little tongue in cheek.

*looks for fishing line emoticon*
You're right, Al, but there's another active thread about pretty much the exact same thing - currently it's only five posts down
This system lose its sense when u got enough points. And how should it stop wrecker? If I wanted to wreck, I change car and server in this case and go on.
Wrecking isn't really a problem in licensed servers from my experience. I have met two people who have deliberately caused trouble.

Most of the crashes are just down to inexperienced drivers not being cautious enough. Last night I had some great racing in the FOX at AS Club. I just kept a good eye in my mirrors down into T1 as I started at the front most of the time and if I saw anyone coming quick I tried to make sure they'd go straight pass me without hitting me by running wide.

In a way I don't see why the devs should implement anything into demo servers to prevent wreckers. The demo racers get enough as it's and if they want cleaner racing they should support the devs and buy a license. That may sound harsh but well the Devs have to make a living and in the end if you can't afford it thats just tough luck really.

1 : I know that the idea is not complete and needs a lot of thought before it can be released.
And indeed to determine whose fault it is can be tricky, but maybe an average of wrecks / driven miles or something like that to adjust the penalty. So less miles + more wrecks means more 'bad points' than vice versa.

2 : I was aware of the other thread but made another as the idea/suggestion is quite different.

3 : re the fact that you lose the benefit after you have acumulated enough points. This is a valid point but if you make the effort big enough to get these points this wouldn't be important. I don't see someone investing 6 months in getting enough points just to lose them again.

An other option is that when you start a server you could limit the players that can connect based on a minimum amount of points.
That way everybody can use all cars but not on all servers.

PS : is the wrecker is doing it intentionally or not is not relevant for me.
Everybody can be more carefull !!!
Yuh, i've seen confirmed definate wrecking only once in an S2 race. I've seen lots of poor driving though - some of it by me. Wrecking isn't really a problem in LFS, the word is used far more often than the act is seen.

In testing for a league race last week I saw two top drivers consistently cause major crashes behind them at the start, they where not newbs. Newbs is a word that is over used in LFS can describe a phenomenon that doesn't really exist.

The problem with T1 is that a field of 20 cars arrives at a corner with a combined speed of over mach 4 and the drivers use this moment to gain positions they couldn't otherwise by trying to judge things on a fine wire that they often fall off.

After T1 accidents are usually due to defficiencies in race craft. Most people in LFS attack too soon, trying to pass the moment they catch up rather than planning where they will catch up. Accidents which have their route cause here are rarely the fault of new drivers because they are too slow to catch up the more experienced racers.

Too often the blame in LFS is put onto the car infront.
I agree with you Becky,

It's everybody's responsibility to get through the corner.
The race is never won in the first corner alone, but all to often it is lost !

Just look at a real (F1) race, even if the car in front of you is slower but you cannot get close enough to pass it then though luck !

Problem is that in a real race if you smash into someone you ruin your race, you have the risk of serious injury and if it happens to often you could lose your seat ! (Or your super license)
In LFS you just press shift-S and everything is fine again.

Don't get me wrong I have also caused accidents but I always try to drive clean. Give other drivers the space they need etc.
I'd rather lose a position knowing that I drove fair than to end my, and other peoples, race due to an accident.
was going to post here but think the other thread is a better place for it

What I suggest is that a ban from 3 or 5 servers that the person raced on should get a seven day ban from all online play, viewing LFSW stats and posting on the forums.
